   ❝   did doc teach you that one ?     i can recognize that move from a mile away .   ❞     laughter saturates the atmosphere around them ,   a lonesome sound save for the stable tune painting their steps ,   consistent echo in an otherwise dingy structure .     opportunity knocks at their doorstep ,   working radio in tow ,   unchanged by the greedy hands of the apocalypse   —   and they ,   being them ,   take this fleeting instance of downtime and spend it through means of fun ,   entertainment :   dancing .     she's never prided herself on this kind of expertise   —   not since everything went the way it did .     give her that familiar chill of aluminum and she'll prove her skill any day ;   give her a taste of that exhilarating music and she's totally and utterly disoriented .

   but that doesn't necessarily indicate aversion .     far from that ,   actually .     as she brings herself to complete an impromptu twirl of the body ,   z - whacker in hand as a way of maintaining a particular balance ,   she stops herself for a moment .     watches in amusement ,   an ensuing move of his forcing     (   seriously ,   where did he even learn those moves !?   )     a slight gape out of her .     huh .     she smiles ,   teeth on display ,   swallowing back her chuckles .

   ❝   i don't know if i should be impressed or terrified .     just     ...     wow .     not bad .     not bad at all .   ❞

       ❝   you look sad .   ❞     innocuous deduction ,   no more the unsuspecting than she is a spirited thing   —   a little girl that always gets what she wants .     golden curls swaying opposite her constant shuffling from side to side ,   feet rocking at consistent beat .     there's a moment before hazarding a step closer ,   the tip of her head at noticeable tilt .     this one always looks sad while everyone else looks happy ,   she thinks .     in truth ,   she's heard many things ,   many whispers of the teen clad in black   —   a boy of few words .     you should stay away from him ,   they say .     he's dangerous ,   they say .

       but when has she ever chosen to heed their warnings ?    

       a grin ,   parading her toothy goodness as if a way to rouse some kind of reaction out of him .     a grin ,   too ,   complementing her sudden retreat ,   grasps at the nearest cup and salver with eager fingers .     inside it ,   the unquestionable appearance of tea   —   now reduced to a tepid concoction ,   but edible all the same .     she extends the two matter - of - factly ,   eyes alight in anticipation .

       ❝   don't be sad ,   mister !     see ?     i saved some tea for you .   ❞

                        more and more , these days , 10k’s been spittin’ out these little throwaway comments. and , turns out ? the kid’s funny ! this one’s not exactly a side - splitter , but the delight on doc’s face would’ve made any onlookers think that it was. the way his head was thrown back in a laugh was half joy  /  half relief ; every day , he’s feeling more confident that his sharpshooting friend isn’t going to sneak off , in search of greener pastures.  ‘ sorry , kid. no dragons , this time. remind me to tell you about a couple’a episodes of game of thrones i watched during my free trial of hbo. you’d get a kick outta that. ’

It’s been WEEKS since she has seen another person. Blue hues focused on the track in front of her, leading her deeper and deeper into the woods. She’s sure these are human tracks, walkers are zig zag and never consistent like this. Who knows how old they are though if it’s someone she knows or someone DANGEROUS. She’s willing to take the risk. 

She finally gets to what looks like a makeshift camp, something temporary. There are tin cans tied around the border to alert the owner of the camp of walkers. ❝I don’t want any trouble.❞ She called though her hand went to the handle of her knife just in case. ❝Gettin’ dark soon and jus’ tired of bein’ out here alone.❞
