interview with the vampire series is SO GOOD. i am a huge fan of the movie, have been reading the books they are based on (the vampire chronicles) but they have also made the series their own, set it in a different time period and changed a lot of stuff and it all WORKS. the performances are great and the main couple (lestat & louis) are magnetic as they are chaotic. watch it and see for yourself but we are all collectively losing our minds and it’s heaps of fun!
ok amazing i'm sold
old vs new show formats ☕️
👀 does the new show format mean the binge streaming format? moving away from the once a week over 15 episodes format? i think the worst thing about the binging episodes format is the way the success of a show is evaluated.... like if you don't binge it immediately, streaming services don't count that as a show you completed and then the show has less of a chance to get renewed for more seasons.... that's insane. that's not something that can last and it's not how humans work. please. it sucks.
don't get me wrong i actually like binging shows but i want to do it on my own terms and not be guilted into it?? sometimes i feel like watching five episodes in one day and then not watching more for two weeks because i have other things to do... then i'll pick it up when i pick it up and that doesn't mean i don't enjoy the show. sigh.
the other thing i don't like is how jam-packed a lot of seasons feel these days? there's no time to have breather episodes where the characters aren't constantly about to die and we get to focus more on who they are as people and just explore their relationships with each other... i remember reading about how apparently will was "useless" in s4 of stranger things because "he had no plot significance" and like???? not everything has to move the monster plot forward. how are you gonna act like will's storyline wasn't important just because he didn't fight a (physical) monster this season -.- ugh. ughhh
i think some shows work really well with seasons that have less than 10 episodes but i don't think all shows do. i've been watching more korean and chinese shows in the past three years and it's so nice to get more episodes, plus they usually don't release all the episodes at once even on netflix.
this was a long way to say i think i prefer the old show format. i do know for sure i hate the "have to binge everything at once or the show doesn't get renewed" thing going on right now.

literally though… killing gilgamesh the dumbest decision i’ve seen in a marvel movie in a loooong time like… he was your GEM marvel wtf such a tragically bad choice on your part and you should feel bad
right? RIGHT??? i'm especially mad after the rumours that ik*ris might not actually be dead/will be coming back like... no, bring back gilgamesh instead you cowards 😩
5, 18, 19!
5. Favorite ship you discovered this year.
Hmmmm, I don’t know if I actually have one that sticks out to me the most! Top ones are probably Roy/Keeley from Ted Lasso and Roman/Gerri from Succession. If we’re talking ones I’ve read the most fic about, that’s probably Darkling/Alina from Shadow and Bone.
I’ve also gotten super into Dick Grayson/Bruce Wayne, partly thanks to Titans, but I mostly just read through their tag, which is a variety of canons. I also absolutely love Dick/Kory from Titans, and I can’t wait to see them get (back) together (tho I guess they were never REALLY together for real in s1) now that we know they’re gonna have a kid in the future!
18. Favorite new character you met this year.
Straight up first to come to mind is Goren from Law and Order: Criminal Intent lmao. I’d only ever watched SVU before this year and I LOVE him. The episode where he gets himself sent to prison to go undercover…iconic. His physicality is so great too, he’s so tall/large and I just love watching Vincent D’Onofrio act.
Also, Breanna from Leverage: Redemption!!! I love Breanna sfm, she’s so cute and I love her relationship with Parker and Hardison and the whole team, she fits in SO PERFECTLY and I am absolutely thrilled we’re getting season 2. And I love that she’s a lesbian, the D&D episode where she first mentioned it made me super emotional, and her getting an adorable meet cute was awesome. Before part 2 came out I’d seen a tweet talking about how gay it was, and I was excited, but they exceeded my expectations!
19. A TV show that shouldn’t have been cancelled this year.
Other than Lucifer, it doesn’t look like any of the shows I’ve been watching were canceled this year! So I guess I’ll say that, even though I did like the ending. If I could change the question a bit to which show SHOULD have been canceled,,, I’ll say The Resident. They got rid of the two main female characters, including my favorite character on the show, and even though the actresses wanted to leave, that still super sucks.

favorite tv show you’ve watched/discovered this year
MANHATTAN and, yes, i know you said i'm the only person you know you watched it, but i gotta rep my show. it's... incredible. def the best kept secret of prestige tv and MAD MEN's true heir (both are period shows set in the workplace, their structures are alike, and had incredible attention to detail/acting/directing/writing (especially this)). the first half of s1 is good, if rocky, but once it got going, it became smth truly special and that second season is one of my fave seasons of tv already. i could go on for longer, but i'm not gonna clog people's dashes w the ramblings of a lunatic about a show they haven't even heard of, so i'll stop for now
favorite platonic relationship you discovered this year
i think maybe issa and molly on INSECURE (tho that entire group of friends w tiffany and kelli is amazing). i luv friendships btwn women especially when they're rocky because there's so much more to explore there and i think the way the series shows theirs is interesting (their scenes in the last two seasons have been marvelous). they really make me wish i had started the show earlier because imagine watching their relationship evolve w time btwn seasons :'((
a tv show you didn’t plan to watch this year but ended up watching (and loving) (or not)
hmmmm i didn't expect to watch HALT AND CATCH FIRE this year, but a couple of friends kinda got me to do it and oh, MAN. i didn't really love it in s1, but it got better and better and s4 is such a stunner, i don't wanna finish it. i watched 4x7 earlier today and i've been a mess ever since then because, well, if you know why, you know why. and those character dynamics! they're incredible (donna and cam could have been another answer to the q above tbh. they are so fascinating together and i loved them so much in s3). a late entry to my list of fave discoveries of the year, but a welcome one
a tv show you’re looking forward to watching next year
those watergate shows - GASLIT and WHITE HOUSE PLUMBERS, if they'll come out in 2022. but other than those, i'm excited to start a bunch of kdramas (including HEALER and WAIKIKI) at the rec of my friends, EVIL (cause everybody talks about it and i wanna see katja herbers be unhinged), THE KILLING (the american version, tho maybe i might watch the original one too) and GOSSIP GIRL (yes, i never watched the original show, but i've wanted to do it for years).
favorite episode you’ve watched this year
okay, so turns out, i AM gonna talk some more about MANHATTAN because my fave (new-to-me) ep is THE THRESHOLD. i'm not gonna go into detail because of spoilers, but i think it's probably one of the most definitive hour for the characters and their relationships. it also has one of my fave romantic gestures which isn't even THE most romantic gesture in the ep, but there's smth about that red thread that ruins me on every viewing

2) Favorite TV show you’ve watched/discovered this year.
I begrudgingly picked a single answer for this one but also felt compelled to list in no particular order the ones that came close bc I love them all
answer: For All Mankind
runner-ups:
- the sex lives of college girls (recency bias?? who knows! who cares!)
- ghosts
- icarly (2021)
- 12 monkeys
- riverdale
- big brother (yes I'm late, but YES, I was obsessed in the best way)
10) Favorite series finale that came out this year.
ok so I looked at a seemingly comprehensive list of shows that ended in 2021 and most of the shows that I probably WOULD care the most about their endings I am behind on so I haven't seen them lmao (b99 and superstore to name a couple that stood out) so from the very limited list of series finales that I did watch (supergirl and wandavision), I'm....eh.....gosh.......gonna go with.....WandaVision? and like in certain contexts I guess Supergirl is my answer, but that's out of like, love of the characters and what-could-have-been moreso than actual love of the finale. wandavision was solid of course but it was just a limited one season run, and I feel bad not saying supergirl when I put so many years into it sdjlf
18) Favorite new character you met this year.
I think I have to be incredibly predictable and say Leighton Murray, the mean lesbian from The Sex Lives of College Girls (again, recency bias?? maybe!), but runners up to: kate wallis from cruel summer and bela from sex lives of college girls!
22) Favorite scene/quote from a TV show this year.
this is the one I am most pulling out of my ass because I surely cannot recall my favorite scenes and quotes from all the shows I've watched this year, but I am going with this very spoilery moment from the Cruel Summer finale, as it made me and my friends lose our minds in the absolute best way and I'll love that moment forever.
