Week 4: Remy Boyz vs. TeamGotSauce

To open up week 4 at Mission Dolores Academy, Remy Boyz (1-2) faced off with TeamGotSauce (3-0). Right from the tip, it was mono e mono as the sharpshooter for Remy Boyz, Sebastien Damas, and scorer down low for Sauce, Jeff Stefanis, went back and forth scoring multiple baskets for their respective teams. In the first half, Damas lead Remy Boyz with a quick 12 points and Stefanis was able to contribute 11 points in the opening moments of the half. The reliable scoring duo of Peter Horn and Sean Brennan picked up where they’ve left off all year long scoring the rest of the points for Remy Boyz in the first half. For TeamGotSauce, Josh Roberts was strong on the block helping his team on the boards and scoring 10 points in the first half. All together 7 players on Sauce get on the scoreboard in the first half, letting them pull out to a 45-30 lead at the half.

In the second, Sauce’s scoring from deep and the team’s overall depth became too much. Ankur Sharma and Will Winston combined for 4 total threes in the half that allowed Sauce to extend their halftime lead. The nail in the coffin came toward the end of the game with a hellacious slam dunk from Josh Roberts. To close the second half, most of Remy Boyz scoring came from 3 players: Brennan with 18, Damas with 15, and Horn with 14. Five players on TeamGotSauce score in double figures led by Josh Roberts with 16 and Sachin Monga/Ankur Sharma with 15 points.

TeamGotSauce is now 4-0 on the season and may be one of the top teams to beat. With 7 players averaging 7+ points per game and 3 averaging double digits, it will take a strong defensive effort and equal depth to hang around with this offensive juggernaut. On the season, Remy Boys fall to 1-3. Unlike Sauce, depth has been a problem for Remy Boyz but with a full lineup, the scoring is there to make them competitive with any team in the league.

Week 3 - TeamGotSauce vs. Stifle Browser 

The ZBL game held at the San Francisco Y.M.C.A this past Monday night at 8pm was a hard fought game to say the less.

The two teams, Stifle Browser and TeamGotSauce, both battled a hard 40 minutes. Browser got off to a hot start with point guard Tyler Barksdale draining 4 three pointers to start the game. TeamGotSauce continued there attack-the-paint method with continuous lay-ups keeping them in reach. As team Browser continued there barrage, TeamGotSauce had no choice but to call timeout to calm the scoring run down. With TGS coming out of the timeout, they began to create more open shots and also began shooting at range which switched the momentum of the game. The defense became much tighter, they forced tougher shots and frustrated the SB forwards as they tried to attack the basket.

As the second half began Pete Greene and Barksdale both decided to attack the rack and take over again for SB. Multiple pick-and-rolls and dribble drives froze defenders and started working in there favor but TeamGotSauce was still on fire from downtown. Ankur Sharma and Josh Roberts cashing in 3 pointers continued throughout the second half. The fouls for browser were the difference maker later on down the line, slowing the game down. TeamGotSauce ended the game on a 8-2 run to cap off the game.

Week 2 – Trust the Process vs Take That for Big Data

The first week 2 game at the YMCA Buchanan was a matchup between the Winter 18 runner-ups, Take That for Big Data, and Trust the Process who returned from a seasons hiatus from the ZBL. Both teams started by trading off buckets with a few huge performances from well-known ZBL scorers.

Austin Liou picked up right where he left off and began his campaign to be the first repeat ‘Get Buckets’ winner in the ZBL. Throughout the game, he got to the line at will and finished 10/11 from the charity stripe. He outperformed his Winter 18 PPG average and finished with 30 points. TTBD’s versatile big man Patrick Dreith lived up to the Karl Anthony Towns comparisons by scoring both inside and out, finishing with 16 points and cleaning up on the boards.

Trust the Process plays a great team game and is helped by their depth with all 9 guys in attendance for the second straight week. Brad Lookabaugh who scored from all over the place and finished with 17 points led Trust the Process in a close game. Joe Lee helped keep the game close scoring 10 of his 15 points in the second half. Fan favorite, Phil “The Alphabet” Opamuratawongse also finished in double digits with 10 points. Despite a great effort, Trust the Process were unable to knock off Take That for Big Data.

Trust the Process is making a name for themselves for their ability to score from range and keep fresh legs out on the court. On the other end, the ZBL has yet to find a team that can handle to powerhouse combination that is Austin Liou and Patrick Dreith.
