One of the reasons I got interested in labubu were the customs I saw around so hopefully first attempt goes well, planning on making a goth labubu to satisfy my craving to dress up in dark spooky stuff lol

The body is standard size ymy and the clothes are mix of stores on aliexpress/taobao

Now to keep practicing my sewing skills so he can wear Balmain or something if anybody has suggestions for cute Aven fits lmk lol

bootleg aventurine nui rework!!!

so when i first started getting into cotton dolls i didn't do enough research about the hobby before i ordered some wanting to see how they were made. although I used to buy from BOOTH all the time during my Mettaton era it was my first time using taobao and i'd heard of people getting fake stuff but I had no idea how prevalent it actually is for people to steal photos from the original makers and upload them to their own shop, and then ship poor quality copies based on the image. the amount of people on xhs i see posting "is this authentic?" for even stuff like rilakkuma and labubu is crazy

anyway, cotton doll is my new special interest, so im gonna yap about how i fixed him up:

(for the record, most fanart cotton dolls are drawn by an artist who then finds a manufacturer and starts a group chat, sometimes with a password, to fill the order quantity. you may sometimes see extras on taobao or weidian but the aventurine nui were really popular and the one authentic listing i DID manage to find was sold out before the proxy could place an order. in addition to the aventurine nuis that have been faked there was a 20cm boothill based off of his emoji that was super cute but i saw several people posting about accidentally getting a fake... sucked extremely because i wanted that one soooo bad lol)

but its fine, he wasn't very expensive and it gives me an opportunity to take him apart and practice making modifications

So some of the problems we have are:

(rilakkuma and mama nendo for scale lol)

-lopsided ears, although i think in the end i will leave them as theyre kind of cute to me

-the top of his bangs is just a half circle, it doesnt actually have a good shape. the original nuis this doll was copied from had two layered hair and a way better shape. unfortunately i dont have any fabric that matches this specific color/texture so whatever i end up doing has to be correct the first time... im leaving this till last lol

-the hat is hideous, shapeless, the embroidery is ugly, but this will have to wait until a later date because i dont have any fabric to make a new hat with right now. i plan to take it apart and use it to make a new pattern, though

-not pictured, but some of the hair pieces aren't properly fused together and have gaps between the layers, this is easy to fix by just putting some glue on a needle and sticking it in there

-the eyes are just not very accurate but I'm not too sure what to do. frogging embroidery is really hard, im thinking ill see about trying to paint over one of my early failed embroiderys to see how it looks but if it doesnt work out, there wont be anything i can do about this. however this may have been the original design, i dont remember well enough, because this simplified style of eye is pretty common for nui

-the body is kinda shapeless, even for a starfish nui, and the color is pretty faded. many nui have their clothes drawn and printed directly onto white fabric, but i dont own a printer that can do this and i honestly dont prefer the starfish shape anyways, i want to dress him up, so im going to make him a new 10cm body instead!

quality inspection... fortunately the color used for his face was a commonly used one that i had a ton of in my stash already lol

the surgery was a success!!! i didnt embroider the paw prints or anything bc i forgor... but here he is next to another nui i have for scale/comparison

and he can now wear outfits!!!! this is pretty much all the 10cm clothes i own rn because i intend to start making them, i just dont have alot of fabric at the moment

(as for the boothill and sandfox aven, im pretty sure theyre also copies even though their quality is better. boothill came with a card but his hair in the back is wrong, and although the fox is perfect in every way i just dont trust my luck to have run across the real deal before i knew what i should be looking for lol)

also my desk is messy but progress on the ghost/coraline doll of my WoL

he is still bald but at least his body is complete!! i wanted to make a wire armature to be able to pose his ears but it was really tricky so ill try it again in another project, for now his ears are just sewn that way and he's just floppy lol
