Couple years back, #2011 to be exact some kids took over #zucottipark in an effort to #occupywallstreet. As a #POC I was really excited and hoped that it was the #realthing. So I went down a few times by myself to check it out. My personal observation was that there was still a #hierarchy. I was disappointed. But I saw a lot of #brownfolks like me, and a lot of #tiredfolks. And #RusselSimmons. I think all of us but Rush kinda felt the same way. Some people today took their time to express their discontent with the current president of the United States. Direct action in the US is a ritual... in my opinion. A ritual that helps break down fears... that build connection... that allows expression... While others may not feel that protests achieve much, I would like them to consider protests as part of a larger strategy to agitate the masses. #OccupyWallStreet was the training ground for direct action. Today as I hear the same chant as what we used to sing at #zucottipark, I now realize while different tactics are important in mass mobilization. Welcome to New York President Trump!
