Hi ^_^ I wanted to ask what you think about the parallels people make between WangXian and NaruSasu. Some people say that Naruto and Sasuke parallel Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji respectively because of their personalities on a superficial level but I think that narratively speaking Sasuke parallels Wei Wuxian more.
i cooould? see some parallels? at the top of my head wwx and naruto both have a mischievous side, both are orphans, but their stories are wildly different. wait i already replied to a similar ask.
they have four distinctive personalities, there are different forces at play moving the plot. you cooould say is an opposites attract each other, star-crossed lovers kinda deal, but their conflicts are different, even if they involve the outside world. you can't make a 1:1 comparison between the characters.
mdzs and naruto are different stories, even if, in a broad, more general spectrum, you can glimpse similarities in the themes: the individual vs the society, genocide as a way to silence a political opponent, contrasting philosophies between the two characters in question etc. etc. but if you go to the minutiae of the conflicts between both relationships,
narusasu have a mutual understanding in that they both know the pain of loneliness, and that's what initially link them together. they didn't know how to approach each other, so naruto uses the excuse of rivalry, and sasuke, in the face of the goal he was set to accomplish, didn't want to feel weak, which his feelings for naruto did, and tried to reject them (and failed. and failed. and failed).
narusasu's conflict starts with said rivalry and naruto's emotional immaturity, plus their conflicting goals separating them. sasuke is aware, even if he tries to deny it, that his feelings for naruto are a tremendous influence on himself, that's why he has to cut him off. naruto knows he has huge complicated feelings for sasuke, struggles to defines them, but at the end of vote1 they both KNOWN because of the white space astral communication thing, that they have SOMETHING. throughout the manga, the story evolves so naruto grows to understand sasuke's goal, struggles and views of the ninja world and focuses in saving him from self-destruction (and from the other people who wanted to kill sasuke), already declaring his full acceptance of who sasuke is. he'll go as far as dying if that's what it takes, but it is either both of them alive and safe or both of them dead, because Naruto knows that Sasuke loves him and he doesn't want to live him alone, and by the end of the manga Sasuke also knows Naruto loves him. like, most of the story they are both HIGHLY AWARE of the depth of their bond. EVERYONE knows. the one misunderstanding is the NATURE of that love (it's gay), which is also addressed at the end when sasuke ask him what tf does the word """friend""" means to naruto lmao (naruto is very closeted it's depressing)
now for wangxian, my understanding (keep in mind that i'm not a huuuge fan of mdzs as i am of naruto and svsss, so i may not be stating things correctly) is that their moral principles align, and they, mostly wwx, have to oppose a society that in many ways contradicts those moral principles. but aside from that kindredness, there is a huge misunderstanding and miscommunication irt to their feelings for each other. wwx even thought lwj hated him! and iirc, lwj even thought wwx played around with women lol there's also wwx forgetting important stuff. they aren't sure of the place they have in each other's lives until post-resurrection and everything that happens since then.
