stuff about what "the gundam" is for turn-a in relation to main UC stuff; not really #spoilers for turn-a but under a cut in case? as of episode 22

the moonrace in turn-a calls the gundam "the [legendary] enemy of space immigrants" and i find that very interesting

it's true, the very original gundam was aligned with the EFSF, earth forces, versus zeon, a spacenoid force. but amuro was himself a spacenoid, and zeon didn't represent the will of all spacenoids by a long shot

in zeta / zz, the gundam pilots are not only spacenoids, but their interests are aligned firmly with those of the general space populace, even if they do also protect the people of the earth or fight other factions of space dwellers

wing isn't uc universe, but even there! the gundam pilots are colonists, the gundams are linked to what it means to live in space.

even though the gundam has fought "for the earth", it has never been "an enemy of space immigrants" as a general concept, i would almost say the opposite? so i'm interested to see where they go with this (maybe it's an appellation based mainly on stuff not in other tv series events, but rather events occuring between the uc series and the events of turn-a proper? we'll see)

spoilers for gundam zz end

judau's battle with haman was so neat and tidy judau's damn lucky to get such a convenient arrangement (bitter forever about zeta)

kamille and the other newtypes shielding judau i can understand but. why katz, why sarah (p.s. haman reacting to kamille !!!)

we never found out about glemy's "newtype squad" i.e. the pilots of the black qubeleys; seems like a wasted opportunity (and what was different about ple / ple 2 that made so important in comparison?)

continues the theme of "adults are terrible and useless" right up to the end, wonderful

mineva zabi being a body-double seems like an asspull to finally put an end to that storyline. i could have accepted it more easily if she had been switched out, say, right before this final battle; that would make sense-- for her own safety, as things are clearly falling apart, she gets taken away into hiding. but to say its been a double since the end of zeta seems really weak-- haman would have known, the double should have acted a bit different, and there's no reason why mineva should have been taken into hiding at the end of the gryps conflict, when haman's power was on the rise

there's no way i buy bright being a good enough actor to have known leina was alive and kept it a secret from beecha et al (whose reactions were, on that note, way too low-key when they found out)

why is judau going to jupiter and why isn't leina going with does jupiter have no schools what the heck is out at jupiter anyway i mean it's a gas giant so you can't actually live on it but

haman was saying that humans failed to go past the asteroid belt and yet scirocco was from out there and now judau and roux (why roux?? is this a military thing? roux is still technically the only one of the zz kids who's military)

i wonder what sayla must feel like, seeing leina and judau's relationship...

final note: good use of the end song during the closing bit (but then following it with the regular ending anyway was ?repetitive it's okay i like that song)

gundam zz spoilers up to ep 38

they portrayed judau's grief pretty well i thought and to have him now just be "oh hey she survived :D cool i'll keep it a secret for a while lol" feels really out of place (and why. why)

also if she survived shouldn't he have known with Newtype Powers

AND much as i couldn't stand ple the fact that she dies and judau's fine by the next episode is ??? way off???

recently judau's been getting more tolerable (despite the inexcusable invoking of certain tropes to get him there)

and he just punched a federation official in the face while yelling about how bad violence is so

i don't want to rag on translators b/c that shit is hard but like

whoever did the subs for the zz streams i'm watching should maybe... study/practice more before doing subs

they consistently get things wrong and most of the time it doesn't make too much difference but sometimes the meaning gets drastically changed

i'm still pissed off about leina being kidnapped for more than half of her screentime only to end up getting killed but at least she went out rasputin-style

it took a gunshot, a fever, and then dropping a whole fricking mobile suit on her, having it explode, and burning the building she was in to finally kill her

this random zeon soldier had a red gelgoog? neither the standard nor the desert gelgoog's (this soldier was in the desert) are red

even the "commander type" that char has is usually not red, his was just specially painted
