The gargoyle did his best to hold back the shiver as the cold, winter New York winds lifted him up even further upon the skyline. Despite what Goliath said about Gargoyles being naturally deterred from the elements that plagued human sensitivity, he did have to admit that it was one damn cold winter.
It had been a heavy snowfall this December, even when the date had not yet reached double digits. The sudden drop in temperature had caught the public off guard that caused a high spike in sick humans.
Including the one he was delivering food to at the moment.
To a very sick Ms. Darcy Lewis.
Of course, he had been glad to see her after many years of separation but he had hoped that their reunion would be more than runny noses and chicken noodle soup hatched up by Broadway.
But he would take what he’d get.
Settling himself on the balcony of her apartment, he didn’t have to wait a second more before a mass moved toward him. It took him another second to realize that beneath the hulking blanket cocoon was Darcy, clutching the protective barrier to her.
“Well hello there sugar pie,” Brooklyn greeted her with a toothy smirk and gave his wrist a small shake in emphasis to the paper bag he held up for her.
With her face peaking out of the blanket shield, he could see that despite her pale skin and baggy eyes that she did treat him to a genuine smile.
That’s what he liked to see.
He was even more surprised that even after he handed her the bag that she shuffled closer to him. Sensing that wordless command, Brooklyn lowered himself until they were eye to eye but opened his mouth to give his traditional smart-ass remark when she pulled the rug beneath his feet by swooping in and clumsily but tiredly giving his mouth a single peck.
The gargoyle felt his whole body warm up as he jerked back in surprise, outright gaping at her as she began her tired scuffle back into her apartment before he cried out in distress.
