‘ hey. you need help or something? ’ it’s 2:45pm, jonah’s shift ends at 3:00, and he is planning to be halfway down the block at least five minutes before the bell tolls. basically, he is done working for the day. there is nothing helpful left in him, not after his last customer (grown man, pit stains) started ranking female heroes (aloud) on the merit of camel toe. things like that really get a person down, y’know? zap the will to live right outta a guy’s system. 

Mickey would rather be eating someone’s dirty toenails than having this conversation, but Mouse has an unappetisingly broad conscience and she’s pretty sure that if they left without her having this conversation, he’d be giving her the worst looks of soft disappointment for the rest of her life. So, here she is. She sighs.

“So.” She clears her throat, and then retrieves from the inside of her jacket an issue of Amazing Spider-Man, which she sets down squarely on the counter between them. “So, I was in here this morning. And I took this. Only I didn’t actually give you any money for it.”
