Jimmy and Jake Gyllenhaal face-off against each other in Water War!Ā
We live in an age where we feel guilt whenever we have to cut someone off but the reality is that some relationships do need to die, some people do need to be unfollowed and defriended. We arenāt meant to be this tethered to the people in our past. The Internet mandates that we donāt burn bridges and keep everyone around like relics but those expectations are unrealistic and unhealthy. Simply put, we donāt need to know what everyone else is up to. Weāre allowed to be choosy about who we surround ourselves with online and in real life, even if it might hurt peopleās feelings.

Just donāt give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I donāt think you can go wrong.

post-election survival kit:
1. put on some Nina Simone (because her music soothes the soul and addresses the pain we feel but also speaks to the resilience of the human spiritā¦start withĀ āSinnermanā and go through all her upbeat tunes)
2. eat something sweet to take away the bitterness from your tongue (chocolate is my go to)
3. turn off upsetting news channels (because itās only making you more depressed. you got all the news about yesterday there is to get. now turn your attention to your alternative media/activist community, and what the hell can be done to navigate these new, dangerous waters we find ourselves in)
4. give some hugs!! (to lower your blood pressure & stress, and in turn release some much needed endorphins and serotonin into your system. hugs also increase social connection and your sense of belonging, which is needed right now because if thereās one consolation here, itās that weāre all in this shit together)
5. send a traumatized friend a supportive message (because even if you seem inconsolable right now, putting in the effort to make someone else feel better will make you feel a bit better too. deep down you KNOW that there is hope right?? because NOT ALL people are driven by ignorance and greed, and we just need to make sure that those voices are heard loud and clear!!!)
Ā 6. I donāt want to end on a cliche, butā¦WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE seems to be the most fitting solution hereā¦letās solidify our global community of all the progressive, loving and respectful folks who believe in a future that protects the Earth and cares for EVERYONE living on itĀ āš½ āš¼ āšæ āš¾
To all my artist friends: If history has taught me anything, it is that some of the most prolific movements in art history have occurred during war time, during states of unrest, tension, disillusionment, and tragedy. If you take away anything from this election, please, please, please understand the weight of your responsibility as an artist in our society. Know that we are on the verge of something huge, and whatever it may be, as an artist you have the oppurtunity to make a statement, to make a difference, to question the state of things, to rattle popular opinion, and to re-contextualize. I am fucking terrified, but Iām also filled with a state of urgency to express to the world what I think about this moment in history, and I hope you are too.
my great aunt called me crying tonight. sheās a survivor of the holocaust. the first thing she said was āI never thought I would live to see another man like this come into powerā, and if that doesnāt say something about Donald Trump, I donāt know what to tell you.
