he nodded carefully as he watched her. he knew doc had a lot of the same problems as he shifted a bit.  “i know…doc has the same problem.” he spoke  as he reached out and took her hand moving to  place a kiss on her skin. “i’m sorry babe, it’s so complicated but god i do love you very much.” 

she sniffled and leaned into him. “i just...wish i got to see you more,” she whispered as she rested a hand on her stomach. she winced a little and let out a slow breath. “ellie isn’t very happy today,” she muttered. she gasped and sat forward, wincing again. “ow ow ow gray...gray something’s not right,” she whimpered.

gray shifted on the edge of the bed as he looked to her and sighed softly as he tilted his head towards  the side a little bit. “pretty sure i pissed you off.” he commented as he rested his hands together. “jack has told me how hard this is for doc, what we have and um you don’t have to worry it won’t happen again. and I do love you…very much.”

she let out a shaky breath and shrugged. “i know that what you have with him is special...i would never ask you to stop,” she whispered. em leaned back against the pillows and sniffled. “i love you more than anything ...sometimes it’s just hard knowing you’re off with him and i’m stuck here alone.”

“right…i’ll put it to memory.” he grunted as he brushed a  hand over his head before he turned towards her and nodded his head. “right, yeah. course.” he spoke moving to the kitchen to get her a glass before he returned to the bed and extended it forwards. “here you are.” 

as soon as gray left to get her some water, she began to cry. she hated that she felt so jealous and betrayed but she did and she couldn’t help it. “thank you,” she whispered as she took the water and swallowed down the pills. “you don’t have to stay here. i know i’ve pissed you off so i wouldn’t want to force you into the company of your bloated, hormonal wife.”

Okay…you’re very upset. Look it’s been a rough few  days for all of us okay, and I’m sorry I was gone for  — with… Jack okay. I really am. I didn’t mean to be  but he’s my brother. I did miss you okay, I even talked about you. I love you, and our child, okay. I’m sorry.

“whatever gray, i don’t care. i truly hope you enjoyed the pleasure you got from jack because it’s about all you’ll be getting from now until eternity.” she opened her book and let out a breath, closing her eyes as she felt a pang of pain in her stomach. “fuck...look as much as I hate to ask you for anything, I need a glass of water so I can take these pills.”

Okay…. I get it you’re upset and I’m an ass. Look I’m sorry about me and Jack but I do miss you all the time. Even if it doesn’t seem it. I do.

Upset doesn’t really begin to cover how I feel Gray. Do you have any idea what it’s like to be trapped in this room 24 hours a day? I’m as large as a beached whale and you hardly even look at me when you’re actually here. --So if I find it hard to believe that you miss me, I think I have reason to.

      Hey… — nope he’s doing something        with Doc I imagine. Plus I’ve missed         my wife. 

Oh you missed me? Huh...weird. That must be a new feeling for you. See as a woman on literal bed rest, I get the notion of missing you quite often but I imagine this is strange to you.

     --Hey...didn’t think I’d be seeing      you today. Thought for sure that      Jack would take up all of your time.

          He raised his brow as he took the card and looked at it smiling a bit at the idea of a Christmas party. He and Jack had always kept to themselves and the idea of them attending a party brought a smile to his face. He pocketed it and nodded again, “I’ll tell Jack and unless he has plans, I think we’ll be there. Sounds fun, and it would be good to get out.”

     Emilie perked up when Gray accepted the invitation to her party. "That sounds perfect, I hope that you'll both make it," she mused, letting out a breath. "I should get going. I have three patients to check on and you are supposed to be in the Children's Wing, visiting with the sick kids," she chuckled as she grabbed her coat and slipped it on. "Catch you later on tonight for training?"

       ”You do.” He chuckled simply while leaning his head towards the side. He thought about it for a second before he shook his head and then looked back towards Emilie. “To be honest I’m not sure, we haven’t really talked about it. Staying home, dinner, exchanging gifts as far as I know.” 

       Emilie swallowed and fidgeted with her coffee before letting out a breath. "Well...I'm having a small get together with a few people from the hospital. If you guys would like to come, it's nothing very special. Just food, drinks, and a gift swap with a limit of $20," she mused as she took out an invitation that was labeled with his name, something she had clearly planned in advance. "If you can't make it don't worry about it," She murmured.

       ”You know when you get nervous or awkward you ramble, a lot.” He pointed out with a chuckle as he set the folders aside for now and then looked back towards her. “I like you too by the way, partner.” He mused. “I hope so, I hate upsetting him.” 

       "Do I? I hadn't noticed," she mused as she took a sip from her cup of tea. "For the record, you're really really not my type," she chuckled. "I just don't want to give you the wrong idea because from what you've told me, Jack is kind and I don't want to come between you two." Em slipped a few more files onto his pile and then leaned back. "--Are you two doing anything for Christmas?"

          Gray chuckled a bit as he looked over the file and nodded his head, “Good, I’ll take care of it.” He stated with ease before he looked back at her and nodded his head, “Yeah I’m not sure that would work for long, but I’ll keep it in mind.” He stated. “I’ll figure it out, anything to make him stop thinking I’m cheating.” he confessed.

     "I suppose it's a good thing he doesn't know you work with me then, hmm?" She grinned and nudged his chair a little. "Of course I'm not interested in you at all, but I doubt Jack would know that. --Not that you're not handsome! You're just...not really my type," she chuckled as she let out a breath. "You'll find a balance Gray, I have faith."

           Gray shifted in his seat and looked up towards her as he took the files she had brought him. “Yeah, and it’s barely started.” He confessed. “I cut down on the hospital, should make it all easier.” 

       She folded her arms over her chest and canted her head to the side, watching her friend carefully. "You could always buy him a puppy. That might distract him from your absence," she mused. "--As for the files you're looking through, those are the most recent attacks upon humans within London I could find."

         ”Sorry kind of had a bit of a fight with Jack this morning.                       — lets just say if he hadn’t been called in tonight I wouldn’t be here.” 

       Em nodded and took a seat in the chair opposite Gray. "Got into a tiff huh? Secret shadowy life getting in the way mon ami?"

      “What is it?” 

      "Someone's fussy today.                 --I have the files that you asked for."

           He sighed a bit as he turned towards Em a little bit and shook his head. “Don’t run off just yet.” He stated as he held up the ring towards her. “You made a devotion to him, you may not have said your vows but you agreed to marry him and say them.” He pointed out. “I won’t expect you to run off and be alone with him, but don’t run off yet. Talk to him, stay with him, and tomorrow we’ll take a trip just the couples. No kids, just you and me and Jack and Gray, we’ll all be together so you’re not forced to be alone, and if it doesn’t feel right then you can run off to wherever you want, how about that?”

         After taking the time to listen to the Doctor, Emilie carefully stepped forwards and took the ring from him. It was hard not to run off and spare her future husband from the pain she tended to inflict, but the Doctor was right that she made a commitment and she loved him more than anything. "I just...I'm afraid he's going to notice that I'm not worth his love," she whispered as she slipped the ring back on to her finger. "But I do love him and I really can't picture a life without the man I love in my life so...I'll try harder and I'll go be with him. --Thank you for your help, I'll see how the trip goes tomorrow," she agreed, offering the Doctor a small smile. "I'll be in my apartment if you need me," she mused as she lifted her bags and set them aside.

        The Doctor studied her carefully before he leaned into the console still holding the ring in his palm before he tilted his head a bit. “Oh so he didn’t say it and you’re making the choice for him?” He chuckled. “I’ve had my experiences with Jack, and him with me. But should he have to do the chasing? The man did just have surgery, and I imagine guilt over the accident.” He confessed.

       She sighed softly as the Doctor spoke to her, but ultimately she shook her head and simply stepped closer to the door. "He wasn't happy with me...the first thing he did was snap at me and then again later on. --Look, I know that you're just about all knowing when it comes to the universe, so if that's the case then you know I'm simply not worth loving. For two weeks he's been in pain and I didn't visit because I couldn't bear to see him in pain." She shook her head and scoffed at herself. "How pathetic is that? So like I said, he'll realize soon enough that he's better off without me. --If Cardiff is too far, anywhere will do."
