atsumu remembering the very alive aran
saw this tweet and immediately thought of sakuatsu
When the 5th Haikyuu!! episode came out, I saw lots of people who read the manga (me included) being confused over Hinata’s words to Yachi after he had a fight with Kageyama.
The anime subtitles go like this
while the manga goes like this
I did a little research and found out that there wasn’t anything changed in the anime — originally, what Hinata says is this: 初めて 友達 じゃなく 相棒 が 出来た気がしてたんだ
I’ve consulted my Japanese teacher, just did some thinking and came to conclusion that what he says is a mix of phrases from the subtitles and the manga translation.
If you translate it literally, it’s gonna be along the lines of “It’s not like he was the first friend I’d made, but I had a feeling that we could be partners.”
If you get the gist out of Hinata’s words, it pretty much goes: “It was the first time I felt like I had a partner (teammate), not a friend.” So “could” from the first phrase transfers into “like” here, because after the fight Hinata is shocked that Kageyama, of all people, refuses to give him a chance to grow and get better — most likely, he even feels betrayed. He doesn’t know what happens next between them yet, hence this uncertainty.
Also, I’d like to turn your attention to this:
Hinata didn’t have a proper team through his entire junior high — much less an actual setter to toss to him. Suga’s mentioned it, too — everybody takes the setter’s toss for granted, but for Hinata it’s something special. He only got to feel what it’s like — to be a part of the team with the same goals like him, to have a rival/partner, whom he learnt to trust at 100%, with the same burning passion like him to motivate him all the time — in high school, which is why he treasures it so much. And also why he suffers and cries after the fight on his way home — because that feeling, his partner was ripped away from him by their disagreements. Remember, he said before: “I don’t like it when we don’t get along.” And he owns his presence on the court to Kageyama, and his amazing toss, too, his brightness as a decoy — and now it was him to question, or rather dismiss his potential to grow further and get better. Sucks to be you, Hinata.
PS: when I asked my Japanese friend to help me out with this, she, not having any context, translated it as “It’s the first time I felt that I could make a “soulmate”, not just a friend.” When I explained things to her, she said that “partner” is definitely better, but I think I still earned myself a heart attack and a whole river of Kagehina tears.
aetherdrive:
oikawa is honestly such a deep, multifaceted character, and very easy to relate to… it’s a real shame when people reduce him to just being a petty antagonist u_u oikawa’s primary motivations are fear and insecurity. like many people, he places his self-worth in what he does; in this case, volleyball. so of course he wants to be at the top. he loves the sport, he loves to play, but he also wants to be recognized, so he does his absolute best to improve. he trains all the time, stays up all night watching videos, gives 100% at pretty much every moment. and then someone much younger than him, a prodigy, comes along and with seemingly half the effort, begins to achieve everything he’s spent years working for. so he feels threatened, because of his self-worth being so tied up in volleyball. he feels resentment, because he’s put forth so much effort. and the thing is, that is so easy to relate to, if you think about it. how many comics have you seen on this site about younger artists drawing masterpieces and making you feel like shit? yeah. it’s a genuine struggle that many of us have experienced in some way or another. and i mean, ffs, oikawa teaches little kids how to play volleyball. he’s not a bad guy. he’s a teenager, struggling through doubt, insecurity, and jealousy. in summary: oikawa tooru defense squad 2k15 and forever tbqh
i keep admiring oikawa more and more.. The way he kept his composure throughout the whole ending ;-;
calm when facing kageyama, the person that caused a lot of his insecurities
when iwa-chan was blaming himself
when thanking their crowd
and then having the person he hates most rub it in some more
and the worst part.. was him finally letting it all go when he spoke to his team as captain for the last time
EXTREMELY ROUGH TRANSLATIONS W/ NO EDITS PLEASE FORGIVE A LOOB
but what got me really emotional was the end!!!!!! oikawa’s panels!!! ignore ukai’s it’s just expository drivel!!!!
“Talent can be nurtured/cultivated to bloom”
“Inspiration can be polished and carved!!!”
like it’s such a strong!!! metaphor!!! oikawa isn’t a genius but he sculpts himself into one… he takes what he thinks are his limitations and he carves something new out of them and he sands himself down into what his teammates need him to be… he plants the seed that is his talent and he grows… he’s just waiting to bloom…
he is!!! a masterpiece!!!! my masterpiece son!!!
Can we please talk about the damn parallels and how much I hate Haikyuu
This might be just me seeing things, really, but I’m just one hell of a masochist and I hOPE I’m not the only one seeing this.
So, for the 2d ED of the 1st season (”Leo”) we had this special cover:
Kageyama throws the King’s Cloak away, and it disappears in a flock of birds (welp, ravens). The metaphor is pretty clear — Kageyama’s no longer the Solitary King, his times as the King of the Court in Kitagawa Daichi are over, and his new stage with Karasuno is starting, with Hinata leading the way. Basically, the disappearing cloak is the end of Kageyama’s past and him becoming a new player and person.
!BEWARE people who haven’t read the manga because there’re some heavy spoilers down there!
And now we have this for the 2d ED of the 2d season (”Fever”/”Hatsunetsu”):
At first I was just struck with how freaking gorgeous it looks, but then I compared the two covers and just. Fuck my life people. Oikawa’s holding Aobsajousai’s banner (”Rule the Court”), which is disappearing behind him in a flock of green leaves (青葉, “aoba” in the name of the school means “green leaves”). It’s almost like Oikawa’s time with his team is coming to an end… right… He runs and only looks forward, just like he’s said, and he doesn’t know just yet, but it’ll be over way faster than he could’ve anticipated. He probably won’t notice up until there’ll be barely anything left in his hands, up until the ball will bounce off his arms with no one to cover that far behind him.
Defeat is not an option for Oikawa — but sometimes people just don’t get to choose, because that’s the way life is.

I have never had a more relatable post in my life
Watching a guy play Doom on a cabal of toasters is officially the most surreal shit to grace my existence.
what the fuck
aaron tveit: was offered a full ride scholarship to an ivy league school, was a violin prodigy at age 4, also plays french horn, in high school was the president of a business club he created + played three sports + was the lead in all the musicals + took AP classes + had a job working construction, knows ASL and speaks spanish, was classically trained to sing by an opera singer, learned to play guitar for a role that had a rehearsal process of one week, is generally extremely intelligent
also aaron tveit: can’t spell the word “pink,” eats craft glitter because he thought it would be funny, considers ‘clapping with one hand’ to be his special talent, doesn’t know how to react when people try to fist bump him, gives hand-embroidery as gifts, once almost knocked someone over trying to hug them too fast because he finally found out “who in the heck” had sent him a bobblehead of himself, dances like:
THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING I’M SCREAMING
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
a muggleborn student coming to hogwarts with a thermos flask and filling it with tea in the morning so it stays hot all day and their pureblood friends are like “whoa what spell did you use for that” and they’re like “?????? it’s just a thermos???” and all the pureblood students start pointing their wands at cups and saying “THERMOS”
THERMOS
plot twist: it works, mugs suddenly start keeping tea at the perfect temperature for the caster all day. students in muggle studies start experimenting with other muggle jargon and a new generation of magic spells are born, propelling the stagnated wizard community into the technological age
*points wand at book* KINDLE!!!! *book propels itself into fireplace and bursts into flames* I FUCKED UP I FUCKED UP

Grantaire most definitely sits and has a battle of wills with his dishes. There, they rest in the sink. Will Grantaire wash them or will they sit there for all eternity?
Grantaire loses the battle every time.
