Put The X in SEX

Heard "Let's Put The X in Sex" on the drive to work and forgot who it was - that was until the lyrics kicked in. KISS!

Brings me back to buying Smashes, Thrashes and Hits in grade 7. What a great tune and even better music video. The world's most underrated drummer on the skins, Eric Carr, and an amazing front man make for an unreal vid! Decent solo too!

Kix are for Kidz

Lately, I have been spinning a lot of Baltimore's finest rock band: Kix. They are an unreal tight band. Their live disc - Kix: Live - is arguably the greatest live glam album of the 80s. Kick 'em!

Dokken rocks. George's tone is second to none, as is Mick's power drumming. Pilson grooves and Don is a god. Never get tired of them - their greatest hits has not left my car stereo system in over a month; it has been spun 150+ times in the past 2 months. Fuckin' rights.

Afraid To Shoot...

After being blown away by Iron Maiden - on back to back nights last week - I have been on a Maiden listening binge. The concerts reintroduced me to a classic tune and I just can not get enough of it: "Afraid to Shoot Strangers."

A straight-up haunting song about a young man in the trenches; during the downtime, he contemplates the war, his existence and man-kind. Classic Maiden.

Albums Cranked - 05/24/12

In order of listening:

Kamelot - Poetry for the Poisoned - A heavy, melodic album with a deep underlying melancholy; also features very atmospheric riffs at times. Not my favourite band, but worth a listen.

Grave Digger - Tunes of War - A concept album about Scotland's fight for independence; the tunes focus on various time periods ranging from The Bruce to William Wallace to the Jacobites. Very well done, but similar to Knights of the Cross. Have Wikipedia open when you are listening.

Gemini Five - Sex, Drugs, Anarchy - A great sleaze band from Sweden; extremely under-rated. Some very rockin' tunes with vocals that drip with acidity, but are still smooth. The overall recording sound of the album is stellar.

Prism - Over 60 Minutes With Prism - An amazing introduction to my favourite Canadian band of all time. True and pure songwriters. Enough said.

Black Veil Brides - Set The World on Fire - The second disc from the second coming of Motley Crue - haha, not. But seriously, these guys have the looks and the sounds. Fast, melodic, heart-racing rock and roll.

Albums Cranked 05/22/12 + Tune Of The Day

In order of listening:

Grave Digger - Knights of the Cross - A concept album by German heavy metallers that features the rise and fall of the Knights Templar. Stand-out tracks include "Lionheart" and "Fanatic Assassins."

Swingin' Thing - Keep on Swingin' - One of those bands that could have been huge in the late 80s, but released their material in 1994. They are basically what you get if you put the Beach Boys in the 80s and gave them perms - only, these guys never leave the shoreline because they are bangin' girls and don't want to get their hair wet. Great, summertime oriented tunes.

Dangerous Toys - Dangerous Toys  - A great sleaze band for the 80s that is extremely tongue-in-cheek. Highlight track is "Scared" which channels the lyrics of Alice Cooper and brands it with a ton of sleaze.

Tune of the Day: "Love Bomb Baby" by TigerTailz - a pop-glam band for Wales in the 80s. Seriously under-rated. I love how over the top glam they are and their harmonies are similiar to The Sweet. I really want to crank this tune on the highway and not at my desk.

Take The Islands Back

In honor of the British Navy sending HMS Talent to the Falklands today, I encourage you to check out "Back in Control" by the mighty Sabaton.

Argentina has recently inflamed the UK with their militaristic show tactics leading up to June 14th, which will be the 30th anniversary of the Falkland Crisis. Obviously, Britain can't not put up with this kind of nonsense towards one of their islands - God speed to all the sailors.

SCREAM AIM FIREEEEEEEEEEEEE

I have been a fan of BFMV ever since I put aside my reluctance of their "Emo-Goth-Modern-Metal" stereotype and actually gave their third album, Fever, a spin. After that, I was hooked on their thrashy, Welsh metal sound - yes, the lyrics are kind of emo, but fuck it, the band sounds awesome.

I never really thoroughly listened to their second album - Scream, Aim, Fire - until a few days ago and man, oh man is it sick. Huge songs, great vocals and full of catchy drum riffs. Yes, drum riffs - not beats. Moose creates melody on the drums - it is unreal.

Def Leppard has been cranked on my headphones all day, specifcally their masterpiece: Hysteria! The tune "Armeggedon It" has been on repeat for more than 5 times in the last hour; epic riffage, a groundbreaking electronic rock drum sound and stadium vocals.

Jettblack is BACK!

Heavy hitting, UK rockers JettBlack have finally released their first video single - the title track - off their forthcoming sophomore effort called "Raining Rock."

Not only was their previous effort fantastic, their new video and song have me fired up. The theme revolves around an Idol show gone wrong and Lord Zolton's quest to kill all the world's lame bands. The video has all the necessary elements: thunder drum intro, sleazy girls, killer vocals, a junkyard stage setting and of course, dirty vocals.

I am STOKED for the new album. Hail JettBlack and LET IT RAIN ROCK!

Wallstreet

Hell yeah, Norwegian True Glammers, Wig Wam, have released a single entitled Wallstreet; this is also the name of their latest album, which is scheduled to be released in summer 2012.

It is just straight up Wig Wam: power hooks, harmonies and Glam singing in a badass voice.
