Aarhus, the city of red brick.
50 % of buildings are red brick-built. Some even go as far as not wasting the beauty of these bricks by leaving whole facades without any decoration or window. It is an ancient town saved by time, leaving buildings with old appearance in position. New constructions, meanwhile, is perfectly adapted to the sides of old buildings, in order to don’t shock the eyes.
Aarhus is the oldest major cities in the whole Norway-Sweden-Denmark, probably built in the eighth century. Originally called Aros, the city was built by the Vikings into a large walk-to-earth for the king, and especially a place of permanent trade

Let it snow ♫
The Danes have more snow than what we have in Angers. The weather changes very quickly sometimes, turning a sunny morning in a snowy afternoon. However, they are very reactive to prevent vehicle stopping facing to the snow. In a short time, vehicles go to salt the road (and even sidewalks!), To allow cars and pedestrians to travel without worries.
Nevertheless, be careful to some places forgotten ! Sliding on snow is easy, and often arrive when you expect it the least.

The Öresund Law
Hello all !
Today I learned a funny fact about the dane’s law. Apparently, they have an old law, always in charge, who says :
“if the Öresund stay freeze and a swede walk over to danemark, Danes are allowed to hit him with a stick”
As we can see, the law don’t speak about Norwegian, so they can’t cross the sea !
More seriously, I haven’t found any serious sources about this law, and I think it’s just a pub joke.

PS : for the end, a last joke about swedes : How do you sink a swede boat ? By putting it on water ! (reference to the Vasa)
By the way do you think danes where waiting for Batman vs Superman?
Yesterday was easterday so I figure I’d check how things are in Danmark.
I took those picture last week during palm Messe while I was in Roskilde cathedral, the danes capital during Vikings times.
I could have shown you pictures of vikings boat because there is a lot of replicas made by passionate people with the technics from the viking’s age. The fact is you can find them on the internet.
Sadly I didn’t attend to the whole messe as I had to go but I had the luck to hear the young choir of the cathedral which was marvellous and the cathedral is beautifull so you should check it ou if you go to kopenhaven(copenhagen) it’s only 15mn away by train.
But what would be eastereggs day without eastereggs? Th church did hide quite a bit of them for the children of the choir in the cathedral. There are six of them on those picture. Will you find them all?

Ok ok I know I’m like 5 weeks late. So I will do my best to entertain you the few weeks left of our ERASMUS.
The fact is I’ve got this article idea seens like 7 weeks but didn’t know what to say and same for some others. As I figure you don’t care about me repeating things on danish culture that you can find on the net just by taping 3 words I will make sure to share my vision of Denmmark. I’ve got 3 more article ready to go that will come shortly so stay tuned.
So let’s go
It is said that danish people are among the happiest people in the world.
I figured I know why. When danes need something like plombering they don’t bother calling specialist they just figure out a solution by themself.
Here I got an exemple with my landlord which like to make muscle. Why would he bother buying expemsive tools when he can just built them by himself. And it seems like in Denmark this state of mind is really widespread. So maybe “Parisiens” should follow the exemple to get rid of their ill reputation.

Skjöldr Odinson, first king of the danes
Hi everybody !
Denmark, and Scandinavian country in general, have a great and very interesting history, and today and will speak about one of my favorite : The hystory of Skjöldr Odinson, First king of the Danes. His name is sometime translated as Scyld, Sceldwea, Skjold, or Skjoldus.
He was supposed to born in 215 or 237 AC, and reign for 43 years. As a legendary king, we are not sure if he even existed, and it’s impossible to have relevant date.
At the beginnig, Odin lead his people from asia, and conquer Scandinavia, chasing the Goth and the Sax. After his death, the Sweden was given to his first Son, Yngvi (Freyr, for the intimate) and Denmark, called Skjaeland at this time, fell in anarchy.
After years of chaos, Odin, wanted to give to the Dane a king who could unite them. So, he sent his son, Skjöldr, to rule the land. He sent him as a child on a longship full of weapons and treasure and local people immediatly accepted him as their king. They named him Skjöldr, the shield, because they thought he will protect them exactly as a shield.
He prove his valor as a warrior very early, by killing a bear only with his belt, and defeating a saxon army when he was only fifteen. He was the icon of a perfect king for the nordic for many years, strong on the battle, harsh to his enemy, gentle with weaks and needy, letting the booty for his warrior and taking the honour as reward. He install the frist political structures in the country and gave them the unification they needed.
At his death his body was carried in his boat, with some of his treasure, and was sent into the sea. His funeral began the norse tradition of sending corpse of greatest warrior to the sea.
After his death, his descendant was called the ‘Skjöldunga’ kings and rules the country for centuries. The last descendant holding this name was Gyrind Sköldung, the mother of the king Haraldr Wartooth.
Nota bene : I would precise that this article should not be taken as completely truth, as most of the source about this time are lost, imprecise, or/and incompatible between them (it’s not called the dark age for nothing). So I would apologize for all the possible mistake I made in this post.
Have a nice day all !

Denmark’s monarchy
The Denmark government is a constitutional monarchy, as the other scandinavian country - except finland. The actual queen is Margareth II of Glücksburg. But with the welding with the french count of Monpezat, Henrik , the dynasty will change to the next succecion, when the prince Frederik de Monpezat will inherit of the crown.
The actual succesion order is an absolute primogeniture when both men or women can be heir. It’s one of the only country which have adopted this succesion system.
De jure (which mean traditionaly), the kingdom of Denmark own, the actual country of Denmark, the Feröe island and the Greenland. With all thi land, the Denmark kingdom is the biggest european kingdom.

Even in Denmark, sometimes in the middle of the day, the beautiful blue sky come. Well, we spend most of the time in the shade anyway, but it replaces the gray clouds we can see everytime.
It may be noted, in the middle of the picture, two small orange cubes of concrete. A wonderful place to sit when it's not raining. A still free place also, since no one ever comes to sit there.

Yes, 60 km / h.
Speed limits in Denmark are close to the limitations we have in France : 50 km/h in towns, 80 km/h outside towns and 130 km/h on motorways.
However, we can see everywhere many road signs where there is 60 km/h written on it. Let’s deal with that.
There are other rules, like dipped-beam switched on H24 and maximum alcohol level while driving : 0.5 g/l of alcohol in blood. Sometimes we can meet drunk people who have stuffed 0.5g/l of blood in alcohol. /joke

Emmental declared missing
The good old French cheese, this awesome emmental grated cheese to melt with pasta, does not seem to exist in Denmark. To my greatest misfortune.
Instead, grated mozzarella was tested. The taste differs, texture too, and the result is not as good as with emmental. Fortunately, Danish people have the chance of a strong presence of Burger Kings in their territory. There are some McDonalds too, for those who won’t be too homesick.

Danish beer
Today we’re going to speak about one of the most important interest point of eramus travel : The beer ! It’s important for a student to know if he can have some good time at the pub during his time in another country.
So, lets talking about the serious thing :
Denmark has a strong beer tradition, and it’s the scandinavian country with the highest consuption (almost 90L per people and year !).
The majority of the danish beer are pale lagger (blonde), but you can find a hight variety of type of beer, more or less typical. Obviously you can find some classic beer, basically the same type as we can find in france. But if you take some time to visit the pub and not satisfied yourself only with supermarket beer, you will take a good time.
They have four major type of typical beer :
- Hvidtøl : this is a light white beer. It’s assumed to be a christmas beer, but you can also find some whenever you want. - Julebryg (or Juleøl) : this is a dark beer of the late autumn-christmas, which can vary a lot in type and strength (from 6% to 8%) - Nisseøl : it’s another type of dark beer. Traditionally supposed to be made by the Nisse (the local Leprechaun). - Påskeøl : It’s the traditional Easter beer. It’s a brown beer.
For the end, I hope we’ll find some good pub/beer and have a lot of good time whit it !
