The Princess and Her Therapist || Blaise and Takumi
As the car pulled up in front of the therapist’s office, Blaise let out a loud sigh. She still couldn’t believe her parents sent her to a therapist; how could she have gone so wrong so soon? Oh wait, she hadn’t. Her parents were just weird. “Have a good time, honey,” her mother called after her as she jumped out, but Blaise just shot her a dirty look and stomped up the porch, ringing the doorbell several times. Once the door opened, though, the frown on her face was replaced with a smile. “Hi Takumi!” She greeted him, stepping in. She liked her therapist a lot because he allowed her to call him by his first name and it made her feel like an adult; the appointments were actually pretty fun too, but she had to keep the grumpy teen facade for her parents; she could not seem like she had caved.
She bounded into his seating area where he generally talked to patients, but instead of sitting on the long chaise to “talk about her problems,” she sat in Takumi’s chair, the therapist’s chair. “Please, lay down,” she said with a grin, gesturing to the couch. He’d said the same thing to her during her first appointment, before he had discovered that she didn’t play by the rules and she had discovered that switching the roles was fun.
"Did you get any new cookies?" she asked with an air of routine, opening the bottom drawer of his desk where she knew he hid them. Pulling out the pack of chocolate chip, she studied the label for a long time before taking two out and biting into one with a shrug. She passed the rest of the pack to him, grinning. "So I accidentally punched Marietta Lewis in the face the other day," she began conversationally. "You know, the one that called me a liar? Her face looked better after the punch." Thoughtfully balling her fist, Blaise looked at Takumi anxiously to see his reaction; she knew he didn’t condone violence. "I think I want to start karate classes or, like, taekwondo. I think I’d be good at it."
Blaise had slipped right through him, a concise, yet still excited, greeting escaping from her mouth as she bounded onto his chair. She was truly a character, and Takumi couldn't hide the smile that was forming on his face. There was truly nobody like her.
He did as he was told, playing along with her little game, making himself comfortable on his couch, folding his hands into his lap. Before he could respond, she had proceeded with her next curious endeavor--finding the cookies. The blonde had stood back up and strutted towards his desk, pulling open his drawer with a vigor that was hard to put into his words. She held up his package of cookies with victory shining in her eyes. Needless to say, she was pretty easily amused--and so was he.
"Is that so?" he answered, leaning forward to snatch a snack for himself. "Are you sure it was an accident?" he answered, biting into his cookie and chewing. After swallowing, he opened his mouth to add one more comment. "You know, I'm not really supposed to condone violence from my patients. So I'm going to have to tell you that violence is not the answer--but before you roll your eyes at me, I do think participating in something physical would be good for you. You've got a lot of energy...have you thought about joining the lacrosse team next year?"
Scar Tissue (Red Hot Chili Peppers) || Takumi and Wren
"Woah, now. I just fix up animals. No one ever told me I’d have to deal with actual people," she teased, kicking back and forth to push herself higher and higher. There was something so unsettling about Savannah these days, like she had missed the memo about something important since her return. Of course, Wren knew it was all in her head, or maybe she was just feeling things. After her run-in with Daxton, everything felt like a trap.
"And if I ask you?" Wren asked casually, perhaps digging a bit, but it was all in good intent. After all, she’d never really asked for help after her break-up, and that was five years ago. If she could hold on to a grudge for that long, maybe she did need to talk about it with someone.
Nah.
"I don’t scare easily," she lied, smiling at him warmly. "I think you’re safe. Though I do wonder if you’re going to sit here and silently process. I’m incredibly dull, and I’ve lived an incredibly laid-out life, so I doubt you’ll find anything."
She couldn’t help but wonder what Takumi was like away from other people. Did he struggle with the same things in life that everyone did? Or was he somehow numb to these feelings? Did he know how to leave work at work? Or did he bring it home with him, living it 24/7?
"Did you grow up here? What was it like when you were younger?"
Takumi shrugged to the best of his ability, wind lapping in his face and legs working hard to keep pulling himself up higher. "Well, if you ask, I'd be happy to help," he answered, turning to look at her. She had been facing forward, probably still insistent on living in the moment. Maybe looking over at him would break that sense of childlike euphoria. "As a friend or a professional," he clarified, his head turning back to look forward.
Perhaps her little request was a call for help--after all, everyone had secrets that they needed to hide, even himself--but he was never one to push someone into revealing them, unless of course it was endangering them or someone else. He wondered what she was trying to keep buried. Perhaps her secrets were more serious than his own.
"I've got to admit...I do have a terrible habit of processing and analyzing without really meaning to," Takumi admitted, combing the hair out of his eyes. He really needed a haircut. "I've done that since I was a kid, so I guess old habits die hard?" he laughed, willing himself to slow down his pace, suddenly reminded that he was an almost-thirty-year-old swinging too high on a child's swingset. "But from all of the processing I've done so far, I don't think you're as 'lame' as you say you are."
The swing's height decreased until he was sitting on it with his feet on the bark, offering it to the small child that had been eyeing him from a few feet away. Careful to not get smacked in the face by Wren's flying feet, he leaned onto the green metal pole. "Yeah, I did. Things weren't much different--people still have the mindset, though they weren't as fixated on making sure their lawns were the perfect shad of green as a lot of the residents are now. What about you? How much have things changed since you came back?"
Oh. Um, I don’t know. Thank you, I guess, for saying that. I’m not entirely sure how true it is, though. How many extraordinary people do you know?
You sound a little diffident, though you really shouldn't be. Although, I couldn't say how many extraordinary people I know.
The Princess and Her Therapist || Blaise and Takumi
Takumi always looked forward to his appointments with Blaise. Today was Monday, which meant that she'd be coming in at 4PM, which was exactly thirteen minutes from now. She never failed to make him laugh--though not on purpose--her personality so different from his own that it almost felt like an out-of-body experience. One second she'd be talking about the rumors at school and then she'd be commenting on on how she thought that his suit looked mismatched. He didn't blame her; Takumi had never been good at the whole "style" thing.
The last appointment had been a little draining. Harvey Porter was an recovering teen drug addict who had more than a few issues to solve, those of which Takumi was more than motivated to help with. However, the kid never actually wanted to be sitting on the therapist's leather couch, refusing to speak a word. He had tried to encourage him, but of course, it was to no avail.
It was 3:56PM when the doorbell rang (multiple times), and when he opened it, he looked down to see the very overdressed Blaise Markovic standing on his welcome porch. "Hey Blaise! Come on in."
Diner // Ethan and Takumi
The boy wondered why it felt so awkward. Was it Takumi’s fault or his own? Ethan couldn’t help but point the arrow towards himself, not able to see how it could be the fault of the one who had begun the conversation in the first place. Regardless, he was the source of many problems so the conclusion was not all that surprising to him. Ethan ran a hand through his hair as he looked back up to the man who sat beside him, giving a smile as he nodded. “I’m not going to try and pronounce that because I’ll probably mess it up,” he chuckled lightly. “What do you do then? Or is getting BLTs and meeting strangers what you get get paid to do?” Ethan couldn’t help but turn the conversation onto his new company. Rarely did he ever like the topic leading to himself and one of the best ways to avoid that was projecting questions onto the other. But it also showed interest in people and that was always the polite thing to do in his household.
Takumi shrugged, thanking the waitress as she set down his order. The BLT, as usual, was made to absolute perfection. He could practically taste the crisp bacon on his tongue, even though he had yet to take a bite. Glancing over at Ethan, he shrugged. "Don't blame you," he answered, grabbing the oversized sandwich with both hands, the toasted bread crisp and buttery. He took a huge bite before answering, immediately grabbing a napkin to wipe his mouth, even though there was nothing there. Common courtesy.
After he finished chewing and swallowing--which took quite a while--he responded, nervous at how he would act. It was always hard for Takumi to not be working, even when he wasn't physically in the workplace. He was always noticing, always watching, always worrying, and always wanting to help, and he couldn't tell whether that was a good or bad thing. After all, he had decided to join the boy because he looked so distressed. Hopefully he wouldn't get the wrong message. "I'm a therapist," he finally said, the words falling from his mouth by routine. "But I'm not here to diagnose you, or anything. I'm just here to enjoy this delicious BLT," he reassured, taking another huge bite and repeating the process. "How old are you?"
