It’s been eleven years since graduation from Lawndale.
Boston, Mass
“So are you going to come?”
The sounds of the clicking from the keyboard of her typing away to finish a story before the deadline distracted her greatly from the call.
“Hello, earth to Daria.” Jane called from the speaker phone.
“Hmm, Yeah.. yeah I’ll be there.” Daria said as she continued typing. “Just give me the address and I’ll be there whatever time you’d like me to be there.”
A knock of the office door frame made Daria look up “Hey, boss wants to see you.” A fellow writer said while walking by.
With a nod “Hey Jane I gotta go, I’ll see you later tonight.”
“I’ll call you later, so you don’t forget, later Chicca.”
Daria hung up and continued typing before saving and rising from her desk. It took her blood sweat tears and odd jobs of writing to get the job she was dreaming of being a writer at a site. So much has changed in the writing world since the internet blew up. Paper was damn near dead, digital was the way to go.
Walking into the Bosses with a knock on the door frame. “You wanted to see me?”
Josh was looking through the many stories and boards to publish on the site this coming week. It must be a tough but great job to be editor and chief.
Looking up with a half-smile “ah Daria coming in and have a seat.” she did what she was asked. “How’s the story coming along?”
This couldn’t have been asked in an email Daria thought. With a nod “It’s coming along good, I believe I can have it don’t by tonight.”
With a nod Josh rubs his strong jaw line with a sigh “Good, good.” As he considers his options of wanting to ask a question.
With a side glance “What’s up Josh?” Knowing his expressions better then she cares to admit.
He took another breath and looks eyes with her “Daria you’re one of my best and more or less favorite writers.” With a slight chuckle “Don’t let Kyle know that he’d have a stroke.” Both have an exchanged smile. “I wouldn’t ask if I had any other choice but Mark’s flight got delayed in Moscow and he won’t be here in time to do an assignment that I want to use, he’s our main guy that writes reviews for these kinds of things.” Josh was about to ramble on about how stressed he was about the dilemma.
Daria put her hand up to stop him “Whatever it is I’ll do my best to fill Mark’s shoes. What’s the assignment?” She wasn’t much of a review writer but it was for the site.
With a relieved sigh “You have no clue how much you’re saving my ass, There’s a new up and coming band playing in town; they know Mark was going to talk to them, so they’ll be expecting him but I’m sure they won’t mind you. I mean they’re from Lawndale like you.”
That peeked her interest “Really, What’s the name of the band?”
“Mystic Spiral.”
Surprised “oh..” The image of Trent flashes through her mind made her speechless. You never forget your first crush.
Josh was just staring at her waiting for a reply. He knew some history was there.
Speak you idiot
“Yes I do know them.”
