God I love being in Indigenous community space. Bc I told a group of ppl my birthday is near/on a specific holiday and they all immediately reacted like 😬. It’s the only time I haven’t had to explain why I struggle so much with my birthday being near/on that day. I love community.
I hate the whole production of meals. Why can’t I snack on fruits and vegetables every day!?!
If I’m ever on a ship where there’s a virus with like a 50% death rate, you have my permission to just bomb it, no hard feelings. Or send me a wikihow on how to make one, and I’ll do it myself.
As someone who works at a used bookstore that accepts all donations, please for the love of god do not store them in your garage. They’ll get moldy and they’ll get bugs.
I find men who shame how women dress and the follow it up by saying “you should call your dad and apologize to him,” so funny because if I called my dad to apologize for how I dressed he wouldn’t give a singular flying fuck.
Having sleeping problems is so funny bc people automatically tell you, you need to go to sleep earlier. They think you’re just an irresponsible young person who stays up late for the heck of it. Like nah I can easily fall asleep before 8pm and struggle to stay up till 11pm. I can’t STAY asleep, which apparently nobody has ever considered.
when i was a kid i decided that killing people was bad therefore war was bad therefore the military was evil. and adults would tell me it's more nuanced than that and i would understand when i grew up. well i'm a grown up now and idk i still think that killing people is bad and war is bad and the military is evil
Henry *while Gansey is dead*: YOU GUYS ARE MAGIC DO SOMETHING
Everyone else: Nah we aren’t magic we can only do *insert magic thing here*
Henry: EXACTLY!!!!!
The alt right pipe line for women is so insidious because there’s a little sprinkles of truth in the talking points, but taken to the wrong extreme.
Like yes you as a woman you might feel more full-fill working in the home and not outside it. But that isn’t because you are in your “Divine Feminine” era and answering your natural calling. You feel out of place because capitalism is an inherently exploited system that is not made for the good of the working class. Combine that with capitalism and society being extra exploitive of women in particular, it’s perfectly reasonable for a lot of women to feel unfulfilled and burned out working outside of the home. The solution isn’t to fall back into traditional gender roles that reinforces capitalism, it’s to fight against and abolish capitalism.
Yes it is valid for you to be frustrated with birth control and to feel like it might not be the right solution ! You feel like your doctors aren’t looking for the root cause of your problems. You think birth control might not be right for you because it has a comical amount of side effects. But you feel like there isn’t any solution for you other than birth control. You wish you could actually understand and find what works best for your body. As a woman you shouldn’t have to go through this. But you shouldn’t advocate for everyone to stop taking birth control and go all natural. It helps a ton of people and prevents pregnancy, which comes with a million and ten complications. You should instead be angry and advocate for better improvements in research in women’s health. So there’s better understanding in certain conditions and more precise treatments. Not advocating for money to be taken away from these initiatives.
The Alt Right and conservatives don’t want to address the root causes and find solutions for your valid concerns. You are experiencing horrible misogyny, exploitation, and possibly racism if you are a woman of color under a horrible colonial capitalistic system. The Alt Right wants to make these problems worse and give you no power to help you.
Thinking about that scene from the legend of korra where Tenzin is like noooo Kai don’t kill the people who kidnapped and killed baby bison. Air nomads don’t kill people. But from what I’ve learned from Aang and Yangchen, that would have been on sight for the old air nomads.
I’m like 50% through Katabasis and I like it so far. But I feel like it could have commented on colonialism more by exploring the fact that the only sources about Hell are western, even though there is plenty of non western influences in it. There could have been some good commentary about how academia only accepts certain types of research and methods and the fact that those research methods lean towards western ideas and practices.
Did anyone else not stand Katabasis when listening to the audiobook, but was perfectly fine reading it physically?
I feel bad for everyone who has read the Raven Cycle and hasn’t personally experienced being in the Virginia woods/mountains. There’s a certain magic being among trees that are so all consuming that it should feel overwhelming but somehow it feels like a hug. You are all alone but you don’t feel lonely because it’s buzzing with life all around you. People say the Appalachians are scary because they’re old, but they’re comforting because with that age comes wisdom. Maybe I’m projecting my own nostalgia but I feel like it vividly in the Raven Cycle books.
I love how quickly Gansey pivots from feeling really guilty about getting together with Blue because of Adam to asking what Adam’s intentions are with his daughter (Ronan) in .02 seconds.
My favorite thing about classics is the variety of punctuation.
Peter Murdoch: I've never thought of texts like this before. Taking into account when they were written, and the author's social context.
Me, with an MA in literature: *surprised Pikachu face* HOW?????
