This has been the motto of the Medics Team of ROTC in Batangas State University JPLPC - Malvar. The Medics team is the group that is responsible for attending and giving first aid to those cadet’s who are in need. They are those people that you can see wearing white cap and belt and standing in the corner waiting for a call for help or the magic word “Medics! Medics!”.
I am one of the members of the Medics team and it has been a great experience despite of the hassles we’ve been going through.
Being in the Medics team is not as easy as everyone thought. Just what like the other cadets thought about the team, I also believed that “Medics ay petiks.” but as the training goes by, I realized that this kind of work is not as easy as it looks like. Because, as a member of the team, you have to know how to do first aid, be alert, and always ready to help someone. Also, you have to be always willing and eager to learn and help your fellows.
With the help of the head officer of the Medics team, Sir Aries Miranda, we were able to learn a lot of knowledge and acquire skills that we can apply in different situations through his own lectures and also the school’s clinic. He introduced us to the motto stated above which also lead and resulted to a strong bond between each members of the Medics team. He trained us through different exercises that despite how hard and exhausting it is, we know that he only wants us to learn from it. As the training goes by, we were able to know what we needed to know and experience being exposed to different demos that are necessary for our team. It helped our team to gain knowledge and to know what we are going to do in case of emergencies.
Our “pak wan, pak all” motto made our task easier. We also apply this in our punishments wherein if there are wrongs and late in our group, we should expect to have a punishment that we will do all together. But, despite of those punishments, we still manage to have those smile on our faces because we know that we have each other’s backs.
Medics team is not just a group who always “petiks” but a group that is always on the go, and ready for anything, even in punishments. We always prove that we can also keep pace with the other cadets even though we are in other group.
Even though there are a lot of hardships and struggles that the Medics went through, we built a great friendship and strong bond that we will surely carry forever. We will always have this mentality wherein to not leave your buddies behind and to always be alert and be ready in every situations. I must say that I made a good decision to be a part of the team and never underestimate the Medics team.
“On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home , we leave no veteran behind.”
