this is incredibly touching to hear, especially after spending the last week feeling burnt out and artistically useless (thank god the plumbers are showing up in the morning to relieve me of the hell of having no kitchen sink + minimally working bathroom sink)

for me, the key to building up a good work ethic is to commit to doing a task for just five minutes. that's it, just five minutes, if you really don't want to keep going, then stop

most of the time that's long enough to get into the groove and keep working, but the most important part of this ethos is to actually honor the pact you've made with yourself: if you just aren't feeling it, really actually do put the task down, and then go do something else. wash dishes, clean the toilet, whatever small task that can be done in 10-20 minutes, so you can come back and try again with a clear head

that said, writing and comics are much easier for me to lock in and commit to working on them. They're both highly methodical processes with clearly defined steps. I burn out very easily when working on illustrations, for example, so some of it is also just finding the work that suits you and committing to that
