With the idea of using materialistic products on leaves and other consumer products, I decided to experiment with these materialistic products found washed up on the beach. With these found objects, I collaborated them and embellished some old goggles I also found on the beach in order to replicate the textures of sea life/coral etc. The objects found and used in this work depict how when society gets sick of their old materialistic products, they throw them away for the newest form of instant gratification. Such instant gratifications have thus been used for my own instant gratification in creating this work in order to illustrate and document the beach.

Decided to embellish the nail polish more in order to make it look more materialistic and over the top to illustrate societies obsession with image and instant gratification. I am much happier with this result.

EXPERIMENTING WITH CHANCE

I took a drawing of bubbles I did in boredom whilst on the train, cut it up into strips, mixed them together and then sprinkled them across the floor, leaving it up to chance and how and where they fell to create the composition of the work.

Experimentation - using ready made, instant applied materials on materialistic products... 

Could possibly add more to them to depict how overboard society can go with this kind of obsession... but I don't want them to become unrecognisable and just look like a pile of glitter... then again, maybe thats the overall concept, that society is that obsessed with such products that they become unrecognisable, the blend in...

Whilst experimenting with ready made materialistic conventions with the leaves, I decided to take the concept further and apply such materials to materialistic products found within my room. This is to convey a  typical teenage girl/ society overall and their obsession with instant gratification and materialistic products to enhance or better their image. Thus, materialistic ad consumer products such as nail polish, lipstick, mascara etc were experimented with, embellished in tacky, glitzy, easy to apply materials such as sequins and glitter....

Experimentation with ready made materials such as crochet, lace etc. This has been done to reflect societies obsession with instant gratification and materialistic products where their immediate results are able to perfect their imperfections. this concept is highlighted with the top 2 images where the use of a blemished leaf illustrates society and the glitzy, materialistic ruffles around it have been used to somewhat make it more aesthetically appealing.

EXPERIMENTATION OF MARK MAKING AND DOCUMENTATION

Like the erasure of the leaf, i decide to experiment again with leaves, though through the concept of mark making and documentation. 

Here I have experimented the technique of embroidery on such natural objects in order to somehow replicate/mimic the intricacies and delicate details illustrated in nature. Inspiration for this has been drawn from Susanna B. who uses crotchet to embellish leaves, twigs and rocks. The intricacy of a spiders web is also of inspiration.

Various types of leave were used in this experimentation, and these were the most successful; Lime tree leaves and Native leaves; the others used were too delicate to even sew on or dried up and crumbled before I could even experiment. 

FURTHER IDEAS...

whist experimenting with the tedious process of embroidery, I thought that I could also experiment with ready made materials such as pre made crochet or lace etc. This will provide me with another concept for mark making and documentation, instigating the idea of instant gratification that society is obsessed with. This will further show how society wants easily accessible products that give instant results. This can then lead into how society wants such thing in order to perfect their imperfections . A way of showing this would be to use a leaf with blotches etc and outline it in 'pretty' ready made ribbon or something...

EXPERIMENTING WITH ERASURE

After experimenting with the idea of erasure and removing the majority of an objects content, only leaving its crucial skeletal structure/seams, I decided to experiment with natural objects such as leaves.

EXPERIMENTING WITH ERASURE

Inspired by Pip Culbert, I erased both the material and inner contents of both a bag and a shoe leaving only he internal structure and the seams that hold it together as a whole.

this work "Made By Joel" inspired me through the concept of ERASURE. Although the work doesn't illustrate erasure itself, the way in which he has created the silhouettes of objects inspired me to apply the same method, though focusing on erasure.

This idea consists of me using either string or wool and outlining ever object along either a shelf, a mantle piece, desk or a wall and then removing the physical object from the scene leaving only the silhouette of the object in wool/string on the wall... Thus, this experimentation will illustrate erasure of everyday objects and the mental imprint/memory they leave behind once taken away...
