Best Of: Henry Street Music Part: 1
Arguably one of the more important house labels of the whole past history of house music, Henry Street Music, has always released songs that are both innovative and original taking clues from classic house, techno, garage and hiphop scenes.
Some of the biggest releases are The Bucketheads “The Bomb” produced by Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, “The Funk Phenomena” produced by Armand Van Helden and many other anthems from a roster including DJ Sneak, Johnick, Little Louie Vega, 95 North, Todd Terry, Ashley Beedle to name a few.
There is a lot, and i mean a lot more to this label than we could ever cover in a blog post. Treat this as a crash course to Henry Street Music.

Tronco Traxx - Runway (As A House) (Original Mix)
‘Walk 4 Me’ is arguably getting still more airplay by DJ’s since it is such a versatile tool to drop in pretty much every house or techno set ever. ‘Runway (As A House)’ however is the track that embodies perfectly Tronco Traxx’ vision of how a primetime burner should sound like.
Taking cues from NY ballroom vogue scene, this mad roller is just next level.
DJ Sneak - Show Me The Way
DJ Sneak is one of those enigmas that has always had his own sound but kinda always similar to other house producers. His traits of using a simple disco loop backing it up with drums that move onwards like a locomotive are well rounded here. With how todays house scene looks like, you wouldn’t have any idea this was released in ‘95.
Johnick - Play The World
We are always confusing how to say his artist name. Do you say it like John Nick or “Jonick”. Either way, don’t think this guy has ever produced a bad track in his life. There is a lot more from him than we could ever cover in a single blog post, so just go and open his discogs page and get crate digging.
There exists a particural white label of ‘Play the World’ with an acapella added on top that a particural French duo Daft Punk were a fan of in the 90s.
Other solid gem from the same EP is the track called ‘ Tales Of Jerry Morbid ‘
Johnick - Good Time
Yee, one more Johnick tune because why not. Still getting airplay by the likes of Black Madonna and Jackmaster and for a good reason. Slap basses, rhodes and a hard hitting 909 loop.
95 North - Do I Do
‘95 North’ made their biggest hits on other labels, however ‘Do I Do’ perfectly exemplifies what they were all about. Rugged out beats, simple sample and throw in a ghetto vocal sample on top it.
