Why I picked UTRGV???

Everyone has dreams, and I know when I started looking for the right place to fulfill my dreams I wanted UTRGV. Why? You might be thinking. Well, for one thing, I am used to the Valley and I love being close to family. Secondly, I am a mom of one, and having that extra help for care is great. The majority of my friends either went to South Texas College or a university quite far, but for me, I visited this university way too many times that it became comfortable enough and safe. The professors are great, and although some are quite difficult, I still enjoy their teaching skills. I have learned so much these past four years and even so I still look to some of my past professors as mentors in my career. You also need to keep friends and mentors in your journey towards your career. They help make things easier and less stressful. Plus, when in doubt of a paper or study tips they are the greatest help. So UTRGV, has been my second home and there is always something to do, or activities that are taking place on campus. I especially love the library, because there are so many books to choose from and it is the perfect place to study. My favorite part about it is how the book shelves mechanically move forward and backward to look through them. It’s simply magical to me, and I always tell my colleagues to go there when they need study time. Nonetheless, if I ever decide to come back for graduate school, I know UTRGV will be the place to go. It is the place where learning becomes a reality.

Media vs. World

Reading twitter and tear gas reminded me of how social media can be vulgarly used. People research, explore, and confined themselves in worldly news that can be changed; altered through social media. The first being twitter, a worldwide media used by people of choice and governmental testimonies. Nowadays, everyone has something to say; something to share. It can be positive like speaking of a new advancement in technology, or it can be negative like a war. Whatever is the case, everyone and anyone will find a way to change and alter the story. More so by causing global stress and changing how people see the world. But has it been just twittered? No, it hasn't. It's every social media application. It's Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram. All are a part of this profound alteration of how we see the world. We learn about new issues in the world because of these media’s. It's amazing that people still take the time to read about these issues online. Yet, why wouldn’t you? Especially if it is on your favorite social app. Quick access and easy to use. It is how this new generation can maintain some sort of social life. But, what I found interesting in this story, is that the world will keep going even if a life is lost. Protestors will always be around to try and keep peace and order, but others will come along and destroy people’s positive nature with violence and curative stories. It is how life is now and continues to be. Unfortunately, in this story, the author talks about the Tear gas being thrown to protestors in Turkey and that stories are being told about this scenic issue. Stories shared all over social media and no one knows which one is the true; factual story. It’s inevitable and the author knows it as well. That’s why many are contradictive when it comes to social media. For it can be the next peace maker, or it can be the next worldly issue. Not sure, thought what it may be? But, only time and a great story can tell.

Technology vs. mind

As I read, “As we may think” by Vannevar Bush, my mind was bewildered. This article was written during the WWII; as it came to an end. The technology at this point was not as advanced, yet the article held a great ideology of how technology would be soon. What I found intriguing was the change in a camera. Around this time, many journalists wanted to write about what was going on during the war to share with the community; like a memory of how the world is. That was how the war was able to be recorded through events. Although, the article held a contrastive input on the researchers involved during the inventions of new war materials, I knew that this article simply was going to share the actualization of how science works in the United States. Without a doubt the main aspect I found intriguing with this article was the fact that another’s perspective on advanced technology can change the mindset of others. The comparison that Bush greatly emphasized was the way a human’s mind is well relevant to the invention of computers. Scientists are not as recognized for their ideal inventions, and that affects the way our advancements in technology changes. But with our mind’s minimal capability we can only rely on technology to help us better succeed and prosper. Just like a picture holding various meaning and memories, it is important to store them safely. Thus, comes the help of technology and well-educated scientists to help evolve it. For if we forget a simple memory, our technological devices can store them and remind us of an important event.

Everyone has a choice on deciphering their career. Many stick to the titles rather than why they are pursuing it. Jobs such as: doctor, surgeon, lawyer. Each of these careers will define who the person will become, but the main aspect of finding yourself within your career is knowing who you are and what you are capable of. Just like any young writer, I started with a journal and a pen. Every day jotting down every moment as if it were going to be my last. Not every day was a great day to write, but every moment held a specific memory that I felt would be worth reading later in my life. Often, whatever was written could be used as a life lesson or a reminder of what was important once. Just like in the article, Actionable Media by Alexis Cydney, you find that our regular bulletin boards or signs for basic information is not as well addressed for many citizens. But when you find graffiti and writing on walls or monuments you realize that this must be something important. Olmsted despised street signs and the point of that was because the community began to ignore what was right in front of them. You see, I find writing so intriguing because it brings people together. You don’t realize how strong and relevant words can become if you don’t read or write. When I was younger, kids would always repeat a saying that did not make sense to me at the time, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” But as I grew to advance my studies in literature I learned that words really can impact an individual greatly. People will always listen, but they will ignore what they cannot seem to comprehend. This course, Writing Digital Media, will allow my inner writer to bloom as a blogger on Tumblr. It may not be poetry, but it will let me grasp an insight of what others are thinking in my class. So, take a quick look back at the picture on this blog, because if you can’t see yourself being apart of this photo; then you might consider allowing yourself too. Words are magical, and writing is alluring, so be apart of it all and sink into the work of others.
