R A I N ;
Strict control has been such a fundamental part of his life that Sehun doesnât quite know what to do without it; his carefully blank face, his steady movements, the thin line that settles upon his lipsâ theyâre part of a routine, a meticulously planned choreography designed to hide his volatile emotions deep in the interstices of his chest. Heâs always lingered on the extreme ends of the spectrum, never finding a comfortable middle ground, and itâs starting to seem as if his crafted persona is a truly horrible bane, indeed. Sehunâs torn between dragging Zitao into his room to kiss him senseless and keeping him from burrowing deeper into his thoughts; yet, none of this inner turmoil makes it onto his expression, face still devoid of any significant emotion aside from a small crease between his brows.
Perhaps it really was time to stop with this endless game of tug-of-war with himself. It was tiring and all too exhausting, but it was such an essential part of himself that he doesnât know what heâd do if not for the familiar presence of control.
But itâs hard to abide by his own rules when he catches a glimpse of the otherâs determined expression from the corner of his eyes, expression brutally raw and earnest. The sharp light of the streetlamp does no justice to the sharp slopes of the otherâs face. Beautiful.
âWhat if I donât want to go?â
Those words shouldnât make him pause, shouldnât stir up an unrecognizable turmoil in his stomach, yetâŠZitaoâs always had a knack of keeping him on his toes, and this is no different. His controlled mask slips enough to bring a smoldering glint into his eyes, barely-suppressed affection leaking onto his face as he turns to face the other. âThen stay.â he replies, voice hoarse as he returns the intense gaze. It frustrates him that those few words could so easily rouse him to action, but it doesnât come as a surprise when he finally indulges his desire to reach up and cup the otherâs nape with a firm grasp, pulling Zitao close enough to bump foreheads. âStay with me. Be in my arms when I fall asleep, and be there when I wake up.â Because he doesnât want to have to check every morning to see if Zitao was still there or notâ the frustration of it all would be far too much for Sehun to handle with a calm facade.
âIf youâre going to say such dangerous words, I hope youâre prepared to back them up.â
Zitao waits with bated breath for Sehunâs response - a smile, a frown, a twitch in his jaw, something. He can feel something welling up within him with alarming intensity, but refuses to acknowledge that it's tears even as his throat burns and his face starts to feel hot. Sehunâs face is still blank, and Zitao wonders if the other realizes how much courage it took to come to the bus stop today; how many nights were lost to thought instead of sleep, how many steps were stripped of purpose and put toward useless pacing as he debated seeing Sehun, only to shy away from the idea over and over again. He wonders if Sehun can tell heâs barely holding himself still, that he wants to shake with the fear of rejection thatâs gnawing away at him.
His eyes fall away from Sehunâs face and instead he looks at his boots, how theyâre worn and streaked with rain. His heart feels like a stone in his chest, heavy, sinking inch by inch, dislocating to the point of pain. Inhaling deep, Zitao sets his jaw and forces steely eyes back on Sehun. He didn't come all this way to run, after all.Â
He expects anger or maybe nothing at all, but then Sehunâs expression of indifference melts away. Zitaoâs heart gives a startled lurch at the sudden, blatant affection there and heâs taken aback.
âSehunâŠâ he breathes, shocked, face scrunched almost comically as the otherâs hand cups the back of his neck and draws him close. Their foreheads bump, noses brushing, and Zitao exhales unsteadily at the sudden proximity. His hands grip at the sides of Sehunâs shirt, like the rain will wash this moment away if he doesn't hold on. Before he can stop it tears start to pool in Zitao's eyes, making the bottom edges of his vision blurry.
âI thought you didn't care,â he admits, blinking hard to get rid of the tears. They slip down his cheeks anyway, clinging to his dark lashes as he looks into Sehunâs eyes. âI thought it... it wouldn't matter if I stayed or went. You always look so-" his voice breaks, and he feels terribly embarrassed. Closing his eyes to compose himself, Zitao swallows past the lump in his throat and tugs Sehun a little closer until the chill of the rain pales in comparison to the body heat between them.
â âm sorry for worrying youâŠâ he murmurs, opening his eyes. reaching up to cup Sehunâs cheek with one hand. He strokes the other's high cheekbone with his thumb, feeling silly for his tears. Heâs sure his nose is bright red now. âI donât want to run away anymore.â
Zitao moves the hand on Sehunâs cheek, fingertips skimming lower down the length of the otherâs throat, along the width of his broad shoulder, and down a toned arm. He pauses at Sehunâs hand, intertwining their fingers.
âBack them up, huh?" A small smirk quirks the edges of Zitaoâs lips; it looks out of place when his nose is red and he appears akin to a rain drowned kitten, but itâs there all the same. "Iâm sure youâll find ways to keep me responsible.â
-text- wanna hang out??
[text] ... whose number is this?
Stop the time, go back to you, together with you..
{; Itâs far too easy to fall back into the familiar rhythm of steps beside Zitao - perhaps, an indication of how much heâd truly missed the other? - and Sehun canât help but give the otherâs hand a squeeze, silently conveying the emotions that he might not be able to in words. ;} Sounds absolutely wonderfulâ that is, if add popcorn to the mix. Sweeten the deal, so to sayâ? {; heâs not a fan of movies (and rom-coms, at that) but anything would be okay as long as he were with Zitao, simply watching together or doing something more. ;} AndâŠOh? {; he replies to the mumbled retort, an amused smile spreading over his lips as he raises a brow in jest; no matter how strong or how muscular Zitao got, heâll always be a kitten in Sehunâs eyes: small, easy-to-pet, and positively endearing ;} So you say, little love. So you say.
[âhis eyes shift to the ground thatâs cool under the soles of his boots, hard concrete chilled by the evening air; sehun squeezes his hand, but he doesnât squeeze back; at first heâd been elated that sehun seemed so forgiving toward him, but the more he thinks about it the more he feels like the root of that sweetness is indifference to his presence; maybe it doesnât affect him, whether he stays or goes â maybe heâs wasting his time] I probably have some popcorn at my apartment. [âhe says, glancing up when he spots a small chain of restaurants in the distance; he smiles, but it feels waxy and out of place on his face] What type of food did you want?Â
Iâm not pouting *he growls*
... uh huh. Sure you're not.
*huffs at you and crosses his arms*
Stop pouting. ['he smirks] It doesn't suit you.
