Glitch most likely had to delay the YouTube release due to theaters often requiring some kind of “grace period” like actual movie releases to ensure that they get a cut as well.
Glitch is an independent studio, meaning they definitely can’t fund a worldwide theatrical release all at once. I feel crazy for even having to say this, but independent studios do not have the funds to do something that big, especially an indie studio working on several animated shows simultaneously.
Glitch is asking you to help because having an audience voice their interest works way better than just a studio wanting to distribute their films. Movie theaters are way more likely to distribute a film if there’s people showing interest.
Being frustrated is totally valid, but being an asshole only breeds negativity and toxicity. Voice your frustrations, but don’t be a dick. I have seen more people being the latter.
If you can’t stay off of social media for two weeks, I think you need to go touch grass. I take comms, so I understand wanting to stay online. But this is why emails exist. Discord is a great alternative too. When I even suggested going offline I had people unreasonably pissed.
Muting tags mostly works. I have TADC and anything related to it muted and it’s barely showing up.
Done yapping about this. I won’t be seeing it due to work + prepping for my senior thesis + going to my brother’s swim meets + other life things. But I won’t be interacting with it after the finale. I avoided TADC after the pilot because of the fandom, and it sucks to be proven right again.
And to be clear, I would defend any indie studio making this decision. I am not defending Glitch because I adore them, I only got into TADC recently because my irl best friend loves it so much. Any indie studio that is able to profit off of their art, especially if they’ve been showing it for free, absolutely should.
I think this whole situation really has me reflecting on how shitty fandoms are now. Just in general, most people in fandoms feel some sort of entitlement to people’s art. No one can interact respectfully, I feel like I’m walking on eggshells.
I didn’t word my original tweet great, but I did end up clarifying in the comments.
In my nearly 3 years at Ringling, one of the most important things that I’ve learned from all my professors is that the business side of things are much more complicated than they seem. I’ve had professors who have worked on some popular animated films, such as Mulan, The Lion King, Brother Bear, The Bee Movie, The Life of Pi, and so on. Things are never as simple as they seem, and I need y’all to understand that.
I really think people need an internet detox man.
