fhdsgjs I just had a thought. What if the whole Mirri Maz Duur prophecy is also about Jon without her knowing. “When the sun rises in the west... When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before.” Drogo died and didn't come back, but Jon DID/WILL come back from the dead. What if it was about him? In the books, Dany's womb does quicken again at the end of ADWD. IDK I suck at this, but I thought it was interesting, meaning Jon is her true love. /hides
I think this makes TOTAL sense and I’ve never thought of this or read this before so… bravo! The closest thing to this theory I’ve seen is that somewhere else I read once that when Mirri said “sun” she meant “son” and Dany just interpreted it wrong, that Jon is the “son” of Rhaegar Lyanna and that he will rise again. But that theory doesn’t really explain the east/west thing so I like yours better.
When all of this other stuff takes place, Jon, not Drogo, will rise again and Dany will have a living child again. Her pregnancy at the end of book 5 had to serve some purpose other than just giving her false hope and I think this could be it.
I love all of these theories but now that I think about it, her getting pregnant again in book 5 could also just rule out all of these fun theories and point to something much more mundane? In the Dragonpit Jon asks her why she is even taking Mirri seriously. We know that Melisandre’s prophecies have been wrong. Maybe Mirri never knew what she was talking about and was simply trying to upset Dany, and the pregnancy in book 5 is just proof of that, just something so that book readers will not call BS if/when Jon gets Dany pregnant down the line. But again, this is just a boring possibility and probably not true.
I think your theory combined with the one I received a couple days ago about The Mountain makes a lot of sense so I’m going to accept those as predictions haha :)
So it was actually @targaryenparty who suggested I should make a post about this but I’ll reply my interpretation here since it is already in discussion. In fact, I’ve been replying to some YouTube comments and shared this on the GoT Instagram chat I’ve been a part of months ago… and what do you know? Every thing is falling into place and I am loving it!
The curse/prophecy:
“When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east,” said Mirri Maz Duur. “When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before.”
The ‘sun’ in some Asian countries refer to a king (while the ‘moon’ refers to a queen) but depending on your own interpretation, it’s could also mean the ‘son’… either way, it works.
Also, our sun ☀️ rises from the East and sets in the West so already, the first line doesn’t make sense. In fact, it sounds impossible… or is it? What I believe is that the witch was almost telling her, “sure, he will return. Only if all these impossible things happen and oh, and if hell freezes over.” Well, the impossible seem to be falling into place and hell in Westeros is about to freeze over!
Let’s break this down, shall we? West and East seem to be significant. What if it is actually symbolizing our two focal characters by their location or whereabouts: Jon in Westeros and Daenerys in Essos. Whom by the way, Melissandre referred to as ‘ice and fire’ in 7x03, which ironically is the original title of GRR MARTIN’s book, “The Song of Ice and Fire.” Just throwing it out there, as a gentle reminder for some of you. Anyway, who mainly resided in the West and who journeyed through the East? Are you still following? Hmm so let’s break this down even further…
“When the sun rises in the West.”
So essentially when the son or King rises in the West/Westeros. Ahem, KING IN THE NORTH!
“And sets in the East.”
Hmm, when the West meets East… signifying a meeting between two sides. This screams 7x03, doesn’t?
“When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves.”
Sounds very much like saying “Winter is coming.” And winter is certainly here!
“When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child.”
Well, that’s pretty straightforward. It has been mentioned that Daenerys had bled again. Then she will bear a living child.
“Then he will return, but not as before.”
Well before Mirri Maaz Durr responded with her prophecy, it was Daenerys who demanded, “When will he [Drogo] be as he was?“ And Mirri Maaz Durr essentially said, “He will return but not as before.” I mean, this could be meant literally. But why “not as before”? How I interpret it is that she will find love again but with someone else… or in other words, it won’t be Khal Drogo.
Here me out. In season 2, when Daenerys turned away from the iron throne after hearing her dragons cry out to her and she heads towards the wall, she essentially finds her family—Khal Drogo and Rhaego. I saw this as an indication that she will find love once again and will have a child (children 🤞, I’m greedy)… “but not as before.” In other words, it will NOT be Khal Drogo. I mean, he is dead. Done-zo! Sorry fans. Plus, D&D admitted that they only asked Jason Mamoa to return because they’ve missed his presence and in the books, he never appeared to her like he and Rhaego did on the show. Considering how her goal for the iron throne shifted in season 7, what was shown in season 2 in the House is the Undying with Daenerys seem to make more and more sense! Especially as she heads North and likely to find out she is not only with child but that she wasn’t the last Targaryen after all. Hmm so in a way, she will reunite with her one remaining family in the North… as she did when she reunited with Khal Drogo and Rhaego in the House is the Undying. Coincidence?
In addition, it seems some are still questioning whether or not Daenerys will ever bear a child. Of course she will! But what I found interesting was in 6x01, she mentioned Mirri Maaz Durr’s prophecy to Khal Moro after he threatened that he will sleep with her so she can bear him sons. In fact, it wasn’t much that she repeated it but how she replied:
DAENERYS: “I will not lie with you. And I will bear no children for you, or anyone else. Not UNTIL the sun rises in the West, and sets in the East.”
“Not *UNTIL*the sun rises in the West,” she says interestingly enough. Note that it’s slightly different from what Mirri Maaz Durr said to her. Another thing to consider is that at the time Daenerys repeated the prophecy in 6x01, Jon was still dead and it wasn’t until 7x03 when the West and the East met each other.
More so, Jon wasn’t named King in the North either UNTIL the end of season 6 either. Hmm, so am I really reaching with my interpretation? One thing for sure, D&D won’t add that bit only for it to not mean anything. It certainly means something…
Oh, I can imagine that Mirri Maaz Durr is turning in her grave somewhere… because Jonerys is real. And so the Targaryen Restoration begins!
