I’m sick and tired of found families we need more found toxic workplace environments
I actually have found the concept of the workplace comedies with found family trope quite disturbing for a while.
It's not like I don't enjoy these shows. I do. But when I actually stop and deep it for a second there is something so ominous about your found family and your life centring around the workplace in the way it does in these shows, of which there are an abundance of.
I'm not saying you can't enjoy the people you work with or like your job, but it's the tying the centre of you world to your workplace that makes me uncomfortable. I know they're shows and are likely a little unrealistic, but I think it gives false idea and encouragement to the fact that people might find their entire worth within a corporate environment.
I do think you see this more with US comedies too. Not to do the classic comparison of the UK vs US versions of the office, and this isn't about which I necessarily think is better, but while the US version of the show does have more emotional pull and is more wholesome, the characters lives are more tied to the workplace than those in the UK version of the show, who frankly are bored and more detached from the place in which they work.
