Thank you for sharing your tatting patterns!! They are beautiful and clearly documented. Am curious how you go about creating them? Are you transcribing/lifting pieces from older patterns? Working out via many iterations of trial and error new configurations? Thank you!

Hmm I never really plan on making a new pattern. Sometimes when I have some free time and some thread already winded on my shuttles I kind of start doodling? No plan, just tatting whatever and hoping for the best 😆 if I manage something that can be used as the first round I don't abandon the doodles and try to come up with another rounds. It's a looot of cutting, connecting and winding new thread... Takes time and patience but it's very rewarding!

But yeah, it definitely needs time, so as a teacher I'm waiting for all the breaks 😂 Easter break in a week! (who knows, maybe if I catch up on the temp doily I might have some time to doodle) I'll try to document it some time so you'd be able to see the process!

I rarely ever use old patterns, I find that they aren't often the greatest and I end up with a doily that cannot be ironed flat...

i think i tend to forget how good boredom is for creativity because we're all so addicted to numbing ourselves with screens and stimulation. but standing in the shower or going for a walk with no music or just sitting in your bedroom without being allowed to touch any screens & all of a sudden i have multiple new projects to start, a solution to a months-long plot problem & 4 new original characters
