sorry to be brave on the internet but I think food labels should list every single ingredient and that there should be harsher penalties for mislabeling and deceptive labeling
Seconded.
Also, if they change the Ingredients, they should put in big letters on the front "Now contains peanut flour" or whatever, because yu can literally kill someone by sneaking it into something that's been a safe food for a decade or more.
What they don’t tell you about getting into bird watching is that once you get into it, you do not get to decide when you bird watch. You can be on the beach of some distant tropical country with nothing planned except relaxing. But then you see a Common Fluttering Nut Buster and you’re like fuckkkkkkkk holy shit guys the Common Fluttering Nut Buster is not supposed to live this far west holy shitttttttttt
One of the hardest things to learn as a leftist is that there are a lot self proclaimed leftists that are actually totally cool with abusive social systems, they just don’t like that they’re the ones being abused. The solution to male supremacy isn’t woman supremacy, it’s no supremacy. The supremacy is the bad part. This line of thinking is how you get TERFS and the NOI
from a certain standpoint birdwatching is a sort of gacha
-reliant on RNG random encounters
-instills a deep sense of fomo
-seasonally-cycled releases
-becomes increasingly financially prohibitive the more you want to expand your list and/or document your encounters
-achieved goals sound meaningless to those not in the hobby
never give up!
A whole lot of military films will be coming out soon. You'll see older ones showing up on streaming service and new ones soon to follow. Sure, a few are, in fact, very good movies. But here's the caution:
Any film featuring the US military is paid for by the US military. They have the final word on what comes out. These films are recruitment tools. Same applies to TV shows, and doubtless many will soon be showing up.
Do not be fooled by these films and shows. They are designed to bring in new recruits. When these are released, there is a surge in new people enlisting in the military. These recruits swiftly discover they were fed bullshit, but now they're stuck due to a contract. Going AWOL, away without leave, is desertion. You will be caught and put on trial for desertion, and they are not light with the sentencing.
Please, for the love of fuck, do not enlist with the military. You are cannon fodder. They do not care about you.
Recruiters are told to lie. To do whatever it fucking takes to enlist new people. Do not fucking fall for it.
These films and shows are recruitment tools paid for by the military. It's why they're so big, glamorous, and quickly made. Enjoy what you see, but don't sign up. It's a fucking lie.
You’d never know the meaning of unc or its origins in black culture if you looked to mainstream media.
Really good write-up on the origin of "Unc" as a term used in AAVE, and how it's been turned into a generic disparaging term when it didn't even have negative connotations to begin with.
You gotta understand that some people never really grow. They never learn their lesson. They never recognise their mistakes, they never acknowledge their faults, they never admit they were in the wrong. You will never receive an apology from them, and you will never see their behaviour change.
if you’re in the notes saying “this is wrong and cruel because everyone is capable of growth” you’re not understanding the post.
yes, everyone is CAPABLE of growth and change. everyone has the RIGHT to growth and change. but no, not everyone will CHOOSE growth and change. some people are not interested in and cannot be made interested in self-improvement or self-reflection. some people will go their entire lives refusing to admit they might be wrong or examine their own behaviors. some people will never, ever accept responsibility for the effects they have on people and the world around them. humans are varied; some are just always gonna be like this.
it is VITAL to understand this if you’re the kind of person who tends to pour energy into helping others, especially if there are already people knowingly hurting you who consistently show absolutely no interest in changing that behavior. you can’t forcibly make them want to change who they are. you aren’t going to find a way to convince them to suddenly care that their behavior is hurting someone.
the motivation to change and grow comes from within. others may inspire us, but WE have to decide we want to be better and work towards that. until they decide that for themselves, nobody else can do it for them. and they might never. people are mortal. we are a finite series of choices. it is entirely possible to make mostly selfish ones.
everyone CAN grow, but not everyone will. not everyone wants to, and nobody can force the desire to grow as a person on someone else.
Reblog if you too do not want to share outside with them.

"Using an Oxford comma is a sign of AI"
bestie boo, let me fill you in on something: if you're going to take any part of 'good grammar' and randomly assign it to She's A Witch! AI, you might as well give up. It's over. You're cooked. Anyone who has spent the last decade or more learning to type properly, anyone who has spent any time writing articles/papers/essays that require you to use 'good grammar' is going to fall into that 'oh no it might be AI' trap.
Stop hunting like it's 1692. You're not going to find Goody Proctor at the ChatGPT sacrament. What you're going to do is exactly what happened back then: harming people who've done nothing wrong.
can I reblog this a million times
Googly eyes (they follow the mouse) on the launcher for a week. After the week's over, can bring them back with the konami code :D
my hated of rpf is really two pronged. half of it is because i just see it as an extension of celebrity obsession that i think is soulrotting culture poison. and the other half of it is that i consider publicly sharing erotica you've written about a complete stranger without their consent to be a form of sexual harassment, and i don't think being famous means you opt out of warranting any and all consideration in how people treat you. so basically there's degrees of rpf here. if you're out here posting on ao3 about kpop stars omega slick or youtubers cheating on their wives with each other or whatever i think you're a complete creep who needs to get a grip. but if you're like i neeeeed to see those old guys from the real life polar expedition the terror is based on tenderly finger each others scurvy wounds while they waste away. thats of no interest to me but of no concern either. they're dead as fuck which means their capacity to either be sexually harassed or curate a rabid chernobyl-disaster-strength toxic parasocial fan following has been significantly neutered.
tumblr userbase is going to become unconscionably insufferable in response to this taste of power I suspect. don't let it go to your heads.
Lots of talk about "bullying wins" and little talk about power and the flow of capital, which is what matters to the corporate bigheads who approve these things. imo a few things were at play here to make them rescind this.
- It was buggy. Tags not showing up for an OP past even an empty reblog did not appear to be intended (or at least, it was not mentioned in the announcement), and is a MAJOR problem. Specifically, it undoes the major update from around 5 years ago which was heavily praised by the userbase (one of few tumblr updates to actually be widely well recieved) which allowed a poster to see tags in their activity feed. If this was the only problem, they could have launched a bug fix. Same goes for not being able to turn off reblogs.
- Userbase unity? Well, maybe. Specifically - the userbase had a swift, harsh, and overbearing response to this update. Most of the complaints were the same: this will exacerbate harassment, this will disrupt the flow of communication, this will make it impossible for someone to maintain their posts. Big names in the tumblr ecosystem came down hard, fast, and with significant concern: if this stays in place, I will have to leave - this place will not do what I need it to do. Much of the userbase said the same, sharing alternate blog hosting sites and doing the thing we always do when this ship looks like sinking. Additionally, their replies and feedback forms were obviously being flooded. This put real pressure on their workers in the office, which puts financial pressure on the company. I think the most disrupting tactic though, was going offsite. I checked out their instagram and twitter comments; they were flooded. This is something we Don't Usually Do when we're just whining about the newest change. Usually we stay here to complain but we make do with the change. This, I think, is the thing that signified people weren't just whining but were actually for real pissed. And then of course...
- Five hours before the roll-back announcement, an article drops. That kind of bad press is the nail in the coffin for a dying company like tumblr. I imagine several concerned meetings somewhere in those five hours.
What do we learn? The answer is not "bullying works" and "swearing at customer service reps is fun". The answer is to remember that online, we are both the product and the thing that creates the value (similar to but obviously distinct from the actual workers of a corporation; if we vanished overnight they'd have nothing). Brush up on your collective bargaining & try to understand why this happened in this way. And don't try to replicate this for every random update that comes next by endlessly harassing them. Take stock of the little power you have and work out where to put it to use. This is still just tumblr.
Everybody get more anti war right now
What is even there to say? I can't keep waking up in a world where I read the news and I see schoolchildren bombed, millions of people displaced, old ladies carrying their cats and while their houses get turned into rubble, the waste of industry and human talent into bombs that shoot down other bombs.
Am I insane? what the fuck is going on?
Even the most just war of liberation is painful and regrettable, but you well know I'm not talking about that, we're watching first world countries sell weapons to feed endless war and just bombing targets like if it's a reflex act just what they do, the complete surrender of any hope of building a better world or coexisting and we're all treating this like it's just the natural state of things.
I'm sorry if I'm being dramatic but genuinely, get more anti war right now.
Warfare is not an inherent state of humanity, in any case, and it can and it will be abolished. I'm tired of people treating this like it's just the weather or nature. We know the material reasons behind war and they don't hold up and won't hold up forever.
Subscribestar quietly updated their TOS yesterday to ban a load of previously allowed content at the behest of payment processors. There are no safe platforms. This will keep happening and we have to fight back.
The government is asking for public comments on whether banks should be able to deny you from buying legal goods at their own whim (i.e. how they're cracking down on art, Substar, itch, Patreon, etc)
This is your chance to tell them directly that you don't want to be told how to spend your money:

✨ Guidance on submitting an effective comment per the Free Speeh Coalition via ECR News:
"YES it's a good idea to comment on this as ero creatives. the FSC is also submitting a comment. Summarized advice from the FSC (from their lobbyists) was that you should tell your story/explain why the issue is important to you, and – most importantly – clearly say what you want the Fed to do about it. In this case, eliminating "reputation risk" from the Board's supervisory programs."
Before anyone suspects this is only going to benefit republican institutions, remember that last year the OCC specifically named adult industries as a sector facing unfair debankment.
