One of my favorite moments in the books. Oil on linen, 16”x20”.

Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s own painting The Front Gate, I wanted to imagine Erebor before the dragon, when it was still green and fair. Only a dragon-shaped shadow slips across the meadow (if you look closely enough), hinting at what’s to come.

My original oil painting, Tuor Before the Great Sea

Inspired by Friedrich’s Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, I wanted to capture Tuor at the edge of the world—before the vast Great Sea, harp upon his back, as seven swans rise into the sky to guide him toward his destiny.

Portraits of Elros and Elrond

(In universe backstory)

The portrait of Elros is painted by his only daughter Tindómiel, showing the the first King of Númenor holding the Sceptre of Númenor and a map of the land. 

A copy of this painting survived the Fall and came to the House of Elrond. It is believed that Arwen created portrait of her father Elrond in homage to Tindómiel’s painting.

Andreth and Aegnor, in the style of Vermeer

Both portraits were painted by Andreth; her self-portrait she gifted to Aegnor, and his portrait she kept for herself. In this way, they were never parted from each other until the end.

Nerdanel the Wise

“She was strong, free of mind, and filled with the desire for knowledge...She made images of men and women of the Eldar, and these were so alike that their friends, if they knew not her art, would speak to them.”

This painting of Nerdanel, titled The Sculptor at Work, is painted by her husband, Fëanor. The subject of the unfinished sculpture is believed to be Fëanor himself.

This portrait of Elrond is painted by Arwen, Queen of the Reunited Kingdom of Arnor and Gondor, in memory of his father. Elrond is shown reading a book in the hallway of Rivendell, with a pavilion hosting the statue of Celebrian in the background. The painting is displayed at the Court of Minas Tirith.
