MAL PRE MAL - EP [2024]

First cassette EP from this new LJ outfit. Brings back the spirits of 80s Yugo post-punk but with a fresh twist. The guitar has that early 80s SY charm. Drums are most times stable, sometimes wobbly, but the groove is on. And the bass gets to play with melodies the most. Love how tension runs all throughout the release.

Rush to Relax are a Slovenia based band who must have taken their name from the Eddy Current Suppression Ring LP from 2009. I say that mostly because Mikey Young masters their new LP, "Misli", due out at the end of August 2022.

Truly, this band sounds like it has weened itself on Flying Nun (listen to some of that Chills guitar chime) and Australian bands like Boomgates, School Damage or Chook Race - just listen to the vocal melodies.

As is so often the case these day, this appears to be a multi-label release: Hidden Bay Records (France), Pop Depression (Serbia), and Look Back and Laugh (Slovenia).

Positive Disintegration - Ruby Cabernet

One of a handful of demos that members of DIÄT made in 2013-14 under the pseudonym ‘Positive Disintegration’. Apparently some of those songs will be reworked for their upcoming LP on Iron Lung, with the former pseudonym providing the album title. Fingers crossed for this one making the cut, maybe my favorite song to come from any member of that camp. Engulfing and ominous atmospherics, would love to see how it sounds with a full band leaning into it.
