I'm still adverse to color but I'm trying to improve. Learning about bounced light and light falloff has helped but I always end up reverting to lineart -> flat color -> multiply layer and calling it a day.

Getting into Unity game development seems so overwhelming / taxing even with a background in 2D digital art and software dev :(

I also don’t know EXACTLY what I’d build, which makes constructing a learning plan frustrating.

Winter is so germy. Started going to the gym and caught Covid within the first week. After recovering I was super careful to wear a mask, double wash hands, wipe down phone and other belongings, not touch dirty clothes, shower when I got back. Still caught a cold shortly after.

Once I get my own place I’m buying a barbell set and canceling my membership, fuck that place.

I think I used to enjoy illustration partly because it was the one thing I was “better than most people at” - at least in my dA days. Having that one skill was always critical to my self esteem; first it was piano, then art.

Now that I’ve given up on dreams of becoming a professional artist I haven’t had time to improve for years, being on Twitter has made me realize just how far behind I’ve been left. I’m no longer “better than most” - I’m so much worse. And I haven’t drawn anything i was proud of for a long, long time.

Now, I don’t even really enjoy drawing when I find time to do it.

i really love ur specbio/kane's species and things, they have such good shapes and unique concepts! its so interesting to see how you communicate form and movement with ur lines, i think ur characters really fit ur artstyle well, if that makes sense fhgfdfjh. what exactly is this species, and how did they occur??

Eh?? What the hell dude I’m blushing lol. But seriously, tysm, glad you enjoy them.

They’re, hm, an attempt at speculative bio that became the amalgamation of all my favorite childhood artist’s creatures. They’re not well-developed - I was trying to stick to scientific realism while refusing to research actual evolution, planets, bio processes, etc. - but hey, they’re cool and fun to draw as amorphous alien longbois. Maybe I’ll find the courage to tackle them seriously one day :)

If I could summarize their story though: Uniquely hardy, semi-intelligent alien species makes it to future Earth riding an asteroid - impact kills a quarter of the human population and starts a mini, perfectly survival apocalypse. But! At least the aliens are friendly. And apparently a mimicry species pre-wired to conform to intelligent life. How convenient. So the aliens and humans join forces. Lots of floundering, politics, friendships, and general shenanigans in a not-quite-dystopian world.

Been trying to psychoanalyze my hatred towards women’s bodies recently and it grinds my gears how I can’t figure it out.

There’s literally 1 aesthetic for women that I like looking at, and that’s flat chested women in men’s clothing.
