How’s the non single life
Good!
Getting to see the same yams every day isn’t half bad!
And I only have to sleep on the couch sometimes.
Taylor whacked the back of his head with a rolled up newspaper.
Really?
Y-ow!!
What? That’s a good thing, baby!
He held the back of his head, in surprise.
You sleep on the couch sometimes because you’re a total doofus.
Taylor raised an eyebrow, putting her hands on her hips.
And I’m sorry, baby!
He was laughing a little though.
Sometimes I can’t help it!
Taylor rolled her eyes but started to smile.
What are you gonna do when classes start up again, huh? You’ll be sooo lonely.
ASH
What—?
Taylor-! Hi-
Hi, Ashely.
He blinked slightly. Full name. Is he in trouble? Still, he leaned down, for a kiss.
Taylor had her arms crossed and an eyebrow raised. She sort of moved her head back, staring at him, but she then sighed. She stood on her toes and leaned into his kiss.
Ash grinned when he pulled away after a moment. He was... very tall next to her.
So! What kind of nerd stuff did you do today, baby?
Taylor leaned her head back to look up at him, smiling.
Nerd stuff? Ash, didn’t you go to college?
His hand ended up cupping her cheek, which was pretty affectionate for him.
Yeah, yeah. But I didn’t do much *studying*..
Taylor rolled her eyes, playfully. She put her hand against his.
I think you’re also forgetting something.
Am I?
Ash raised and eyebrow, at first playfully… but he actually didn’t know what he was forgetting.
Taylor waited for a moment for his response to see if he was actually joking or not. Then, she gently sighed with a smile.
… Ash, it’s your birthday.
Ash raised his eyebrows. Oh shit. She was right.
Oh- yeah! Yeah it is! It’s my birthday I can’t forget that!
He tried to cover that up..
Taylor started to laugh. She reached her hands up and stood on her toes, to wrap her arms around his neck and embrace him.
How could you forget your own birthday, silly..? I’ve got something for you…
Hope nothing happens to your car
It won’t! This baby is still runnin’ stro—
Ch-chunk! And it stopped moving.
…fuck.
……. Ash?
Uh.. it’s fine! It’s probably just uh.. out of gas..
….. You’re an idiot.
Ash sucked in his teeth, in reply to the comment. And then, his face sort of turned to a smile. His good hand reached over, which he hand to lean over the console to get there, and grabbed her thigh.
Yknow we could.. do something while we wait for someone to drive by..
Taylor flinched. Her brow furrowed, then raised up in realization. She nervously looked away with a slightly forced laugh. Her face was turning redder by the second, her hand hesitantly resting on his.
Um, Ashley….
What?
Ash kept his smile, remaining in the same spot..
A-Are you, uh, sure…?
Taylor sort of moved her head back away from Ash, tucking her chin into the softness of her thick turtleneck sweater.
Yeah, I’m sure.
It sort of came out as a chuckle. The meaning of what exactly she was saying was not getting through his thick man-skull.
Taylor stared at him for a moment. Okay, he really wasn’t getting it. She moved her hand away from his and promptly hit the top of his thick skull with her fist. Then she moved her entire body to the corner of the passenger seat, moving her thigh away from his hand.
Ow—! Hey!
He backed off, pretty quickly. Yep, he got the message. He put his prosthetic hand on the top of his head. There would definitely be a bruise there. He went back to sitting in the driver’s seat normally.
Okay, okay—
Taylor crossed her arms over her chest and tucked her chin into her turtleneck again. She looked cold. Of course she was, they were in the middle of the woods in his broken down car. Her brow was furrowed and her face was bright red.
He kept his hand on his head. Ouch.
Cmon baby—
He huffed, almost whining. Maybe that would work.
Don’t baby me, Ashley…
Taylor grumbled, her voice a little muffled from her sweater. But after a moment, she sort of… Scooted closer, until her head was practically leaned against his shoulder. Maybe his charm did work on her.
His arm went around her shoulders. Okay, new approach to this, then. Ash leaned over slightly, kissing her cheek.
Sorry..
Taylor flinched. She kept her arms crossed over her chest with that furrowed look on her face like she was still pissed off by his stupid behavior. Her eyes kept nervously darting up to Ash like she wanted to do or say something. Quickly, she kissed his cheek in return.
… You’re an idiot.
Ash’s eyebrows lifted, a big grin crossing his face. He squeezed her shoulder. He kissed her again, twice this time.
Hey!
Taylor tried to turn her head away to avoid his kisses, trying to unsuccessfully hold back her laughter. She placed her hand against Ash’s cheek and tried to push his face away, jokingly.
Ash!
Ash kept planting kissed on her cheek when he got the chance. He was laughing a bit, too.
What? What’s wrong?
You-
Taylor’s laughter slowly died down. She then sheepishly smiled at Ash, suddenly becoming aware of just how close they were. She looked away again with nothing left to say. Her face was red again, her hand still on his cheek.

Um… No.
Dork
…hey-
He frowned.
Taylor giggled.
He eyes practically lit up when he heard her.
Hey baby—
Ash.
She giggled again, a little shyly this time.
Ash reached down, gripping her hand with his good one.
You ready to go?
Yep.
Taylor glanced up at Ash but quickly looked back down like she was flustered. Oh, so she was shy now. Her feelings were evident, it seemed.
Ash squeezed her hand once more, before letting go and running to the passenger side of his broken-down car. He opened it for her, chuckling a little.
Get in, baby!
Taylor put her hands on her hips and jokingly raised her eyebrow at Ash, as if to say ‘Really?’. But she started to laugh before getting in the passenger side of the car.
What a gentleman, how charming of you.
Any more dates?
Oh, um, we were thinking about driving somewhere out of town…
how are things with ash
Taylor smiled a little, looking flustered.
… Fine…
Are you guys actually dating yet
Taylor choked on her coffee.
Ring ring.
@namesash-housewares
Taylor answered the phone.
Hello?
Hi..
The smile could be heard in Ash’s voice. However, he called her without a real reason to, other than the fact that he wanted to talk. He sort of scrambled to think of something.
Uh— are you going to work today?
Hi, Ash.
Taylor smiled from her end of the phone. She wrapped the phone chord around her finger, like she was nervous to talk to him. She could feel her face heating up a little.
Oh, uh, no, not today…
Damn, I was gonna come and visit..
Ash chuckled, joking. He certainly didn’t feel the cold wind blowing on him. He felt himself getting a little warm too.
What’s there to do in this town, huh? I’m not from around here.
Well…
Taylor thought for a moment. It really was a small town, there wasn’t much to do besides work. She let out a sigh through her nose but she wasn’t upset or anything.
… There’s a library, I love that place. There’s a few antique stores and… That’s it.
She giggled a little.
We can go to a library, if you want.
He didn’t remember the last time he’d been in a library. If he was, it was probably for Cheryl. She liked books way more than he did. However, he would be fine to go to a library if it’s a date. He’ll find the address.
I can pick you up.
You? A library? You don’t seem like the type, Ash.
Taylor giggled again. She loved libraries. She was a collage student and a journalist, of course she did. Taylor was a total nerd, a dork. But if Ash didn’t want to go, they could find something else. Maybe something out of town not too far if they were lucky.
I can just meet you at some place, you don’t need to go out of your way to do that…
What’d he say
None of your business.
Has he called you yet
Yeah…
How much left of your shift?
I, uh… I just finished.
And he’s still there, drinking a cup of coffee. He hadn’t slept much recently.
Taylor walked back up to his table. She had her coat on, her apron off and folded over her arm. She raised an eyebrow at him, smiling.
Ash looked up at her, his grin returning, and a slight chuckle escaping him. He stood up next to her, and he did try and reach an arm around her. Very forward.
Oh-
Taylor stiffened a little and let out a bit of an awkward laugh. Her smile was a little forced now and her brows furrowed slightly, but she didn’t pull herself away from Ash. Taylor was a bit of an awkward girl at moments so it wasn’t exactly anything against him.
After a second, Ash took his arm down. Maybe he’d finally had the thought that she may not have liked that much. He let out a slight huff from his noise.
Right, sorry, baby.
Now he felt weirdly nervous. That was a bit weird, he was never nervous with girls. Usually, he was even more forward with them..
Taylor cringed. Okay, yeah, that was weird. She let out another nervous awkward laugh. She cleared her throat before making her way with him out of the diner and out into the harsh winds of the outside. She scrunched her shoulders up to bury her face in her coat for a moment.
I usually take the bus home, but here…
She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a small piece of paper that had been torn off of her notepad. It was her number.
… For later, I guess.
How do you feel
Taylor gave an awkward but happy smile.
Uh… I’m not sure..?
There’s a boy looking at you
Excuse me?
He was sitting in the mostly empty diner. He was eating some toast, and he was looking at her. He smiled, obviously flirtatious.
Taylor was cleaning up a booth a few tables away from Ash. She sort of gave him a confused, slightly disgusted look, wondering what kind of creep she was dealing with today. Then, she rolled her eyes. Harsh.
Ash, meanwhile, kept smiling. Maybe he didn’t notice her disgusted look. Then, she rolled over eyes, and the smile dropped slightly. He started getting up..
Taylor continued to gather up the dirty dishes. She gave him a glance from her peripheral vision, a feeling of dread wash over her as she seen him start to get up. Great, he was a creep. Taylor only hoped he wouldn’t be a violent one. She turned her head to look up at him. She was short.
Ash went over, leaning on the wall next to her. He smiled again. He definitely was trying to flirt, but it was a bit awkward, and clumsy, despite his looks.
Hi.
Taylor looked him up and down with a raised eyebrow. He was handsome, she would admit that. She didn’t look all that impressed by his clumsy advances, though. She put the stacked dishes down and put her hands on her hips, the corners of her lips slightly tugging up.
… Do you need a refill?
Well, I was going to ask you for your number..
Ash managed. He wasn’t all that nervous, either, just a little. For all he knew, she could be another deadite ready to try and eat/possess him as soon as he got close, but he’d decided his chances were good. If it all went haywire he had the ‘boomstick’ in his bag (which he may or may not have stolen at some point over his trip).
Taylor’s smile grew in slight amusement. She crossed her arms over her chest, shifting her weight onto her hip, her shoulders shaking with a silent giggle. She didn’t seem to be secretly a deadite. More like just a normal, tired waitress.
Really? Maybe you should wipe the crumbs off your shirt first.
Ash’s eyes widened slightly, looking down at his shirt, and he brushed off whatever was there. Then he returned to his former position, pretending like it never happened.
I’m Ash, by the way.
Taylor giggled. Okay, maybe Ash was kinda cute. A little dorky, maybe, but still cute nonetheless. She glanced behind herself and back at the area behind the counter, then back up at him.
Taylor Gentry. Listen, I’m almost done with my shift. If you wanna… Wait a bit, I can I write down my number and maybe figure something out from there..?
