vivienne tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. hoping that keeping her hands busy with something other than twiddling her thumbs would distract from the fact that they couldn't use their phones during press. taymour's words barely cutting her. there was a small intimacy about living in a shared secret, where love doesn't live, but is supposed to. only a twinge of... what is that... pain, hurt, relief, solace (?) when he mentions them being over. not just the idea or appeal to the public, but them as a unit; and for some reason, it was a small reminder of tomas and a marriage she had already lost before. remember, this isn't real. a sigh escaped her lips, with a reluctant smile following directly after, "promise?" her response towards his 'separate ways' comment, letting out a faux sweetness in inflection. "god, i don't even know why our publicists came up with this idea."
the brunette stood up in frustration, trying to calm herself down. deep down, she hated not being in control. hell, that might just be why she chose being a director. she made her way to the mirror fixing the small flyaways in her hair, and touching up her makeup. she knew there were a few more minutes between their banter in the dressing room and needing to be in love and ready on stage for the next interview. in moments, there was a rapid knocking on the door from the PA, notifying that time was up.
"we'll be out in just a minute," she spoke to the person through the door and taymour at the same time. finding her way to him, she adjusted a part of his collar and unfastened one more button, resting the palms of her hand on his chest. and in the faintest whisper revealed, "it's okay to breathe around me." and truthfully, she meant that. she knew the torture of loneliness that came with being famous; only blessed enough to be around family and friends who understood the industry beyond the fortune. offering taymour a small glimpse at her humanity, she sealed it off with a kiss on the lips (something they only ever did in public). "ready, baby?" not a hint of disgust in her voice. after all, she was an actress before ever being a director.
not too long after they'd made it back to his dressing room, the gifted champagne had been popped open. a few glasses in, his tie sat half-undone, and somewhere along the way another button of his shirt had come undone, too... though that was less intentional than it was inevitable. the truth was that, for the first time this evening, he looked like he'd stopped bracing for impact and was just being, breathing. the room was much quieter than the hallway full of people who wanted pieces of them, faceless voices shouting behind cameras. here, it was just them, the faint fizz of bubbles, and the lingering aftertaste of a performance that had gone well. perhaps too well.
he wasn't so keen on lingering on the thought though, and thus pushed it from mind as he he tilted the bottle again, topping off her glass before his own with the automatic politeness of a man who didnโt know how to be anything else, even half a drink past sober. taymour leaned back in his chair afterward, shoulders eased, watching her over the rim of his glass with a small smile that didn't feel rehearsed. "y'know what i noticed?" he mused, smile easy as he tipped his glass toward her. "people are starting to pay more attention to you than this... package deal." this them. a compliment and genuine observation wrapped in one: she was a star, no doubt. the thought of it'll make it easier when we get to break it off, no one will notice me gone, crossed his mind then, but he opted to swallow it back with another swig of his drink instead.
or maybe the next drink or two was because his mind hadn't quite let go of the way she'd called him baby earlier and the quick press of her lips to his when no one was watching, nor the steady weight of her hands against his chest as she softly reassured that it was other to breathe around her. pr was supposed to begin and end the moment the cameras did; most days, it dropped like a curtain the second they were out of sight... but today, the warmth had followed him back here and settled in, stubborn and unfamiliar. and he wasn't exactly in a hurry to shake it off. "cheers... to another success."
Most every Saturday morning, Lupe enjoyed taking a trip to the farmers market to replenish her stock of organic vegetables and eggs. She didnโt mind going to the local supermarkets from time to time, but preferred to use her money to help out the small independent workers who kept the market running each and every week. Wanting to keep the regular encounters between herself and Vivienne, she invited the elder to tag along for a change. Movies and girl chats were always looked forward to, but Lupe liked variation from time to time.ย
Her surprise mirrored his, but unlike his quick shift, Guadalupeโs features remained contorted. Eyebrows furrowed and lips pursed in obvious displeasure. Knowing that Vivienne had started to date again was one thing, but encountering the male - or whom she assumed was the boyfriend at the very least - wasnโt pleasant in the slightest. Lupe folded her arms across her chest, debating whether turning back around would be too unkind of her. Her eyes didnโt leave his face, wondering just what it was that made him such a prime candidate. Sure, he had a handsome and alluring face, kind eyes that seemed to peer into oneโs soul, and perhaps even his beard gave him that grungy look that most women found incredibly sexy, but her brother was handsome too! โย I guess.ย โ was her response, before motioning for him to lead the way.
taymour didn't miss the way her face held onto its disapproval nor the hesitation in her voice; and how could he blame her? still, he only offered a small, polite smile, stepping back to lead her into the apartment at an easy pace, careful not to make it feel like he was ushering her anywhere she didn't want to be.
the smell of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air, two mugs sitting on the counter: one still plain and the other already prepared with cream and sugar (exactly four for vivienne, he knew), making his mouth twitch faintly. he glanced at them only briefly before turning his attention back to lupe. "i can make another," he offered gently, already reaching for a clean mug. "or tea, if you prefer? water?" and then it hit him (god, tay, where are your manners?) "sorry," he set down the mug then and finally, properly held out a hand: not overconfident nor performative, but polite. "i'm taymour. it's a pleasure to meet you, ...?"

taymour was in the middle of making coffee when the knock came, setting the mugs onto the counter: his was made the way it always was, and hers the way she liked it. cameras and pr or not, their routine did have its natural moments of ease and warmth between the usual bouts of animosity. so when the knock sounded again, his first though was that vivienne must have forgotten her key. he frowned faintly, glancing towards the door and moving to let her in, well-prepared to be met with snark... but then it wasn't vivienne on the other side.
taymour paused, surprise flickering across his face before smoothing out into a polite, kind expression. he remembered vivienne mentioning in passing a friend stopping by, and it didn't take much to connect the dots. "oh, hi. sorry, vivienne should be back home in a minute, but... you're welcome to come in, if you'd like. coffee's fresh." he said gently, stepping aside to make space and hoping to god he wasn't being too presumptuous.
status: open location: mass disruption
the bell above the door chimed as taymour stepped into mass disruption. he'd been here countless times over the past two years, always as a generous customer. today, though, he lingered in the space a little longer. not just lingered, but relished in. the shop was a far cry from sets and spotlights, from the carefully crafted and managed appearances he'd grown both accustomed to and exhausted by. he wanted more than just an out from acting, he wanted this. he wanted his life back. a version of himself untouched by expectation, free from scrutinizing eyes and whispered headlines, yet still wrapped in the kind of storytelling that had drawn him into performance in the first place; only now through music instead of scripts. he hoped that everything would fall into place soon: that the talks would go well and that this space might be his own to care for.
lost in the thought, he idly flipped through a row of records until someone reached for the same section nearby. "oh, sorry," taymour stepped aside with a courteous nod and a half smile, allowing them more room as his attention drifted briefly to the speakers overhead. if this place was to ever become his (and god, he hoped that in a few day's time, it would be) he wanted it to be curated to everyone. he turned back towards the other then, voice soft. "excuse me, not to put you on the spot or keep you from browsing or anything, but... what's something you'd want to hear in here? any artist or genre or...?"
"so is it the producers or the pr management telling you to be this engrossed with me while we're promoting this movie?" vivienne rolled her eyes at the actor opposite of her. while they usually had separate dressing rooms for special events, today was a bit different. the only other room available was under construction and someone convinced the film crew that it was fine for them to share because 'they were a couple.' in theory, sure, it was fine. in reality, annoyed wasn't even the half of it. "you know, the more you feed into the idea of us, the more i have to kiss your ass," she scoffed, recollecting her thoughts on complimenting him in his entirety. beyond the looks, but his art, and the way he shines as a star; sharing a space and making sure she portrays body language that shows she really loves him with hand holding and small pecks on the cheek. never too much on camera, but just enough to keep the general public wanting more. taymour huffed quietly, the sound more disbelief and thinly veiled frustration than amusement as he bent to adjust the laces on his shoes, taking his time with it like precision might keep his temper neatly tied, too. he shook his head, tongue sweeping over his lips as if corralling the first dozen responses that so badly wanted out. he knew looking at her would only make it worse: eye contact, for some reason, always seemed to make the fire in his chest burn worse. "if i liked playing into this," he said at last, voice measured, "then i wouldn't be counting down the minutes until the nightmare's over." just like he knew she must be, too. his fingers tightened briefly against the leather before he straightened, finally lifting his gaze to her. "i think we can manage just a little while longer, don't you? then we'll go our separate ways." that was his parting gift for her that he had yet to share: he was almost done finalizing things with mass disruption. as soon as this wrapped, she could move on with her life and he could get over this... whatever the hell this was.
