i’m transjapanese—here are some things that give me euphoria

because we NEED more positivity in the trace community. reblog w/ your own!!

01. watching japanese TV shows and picking up on subtle nuances that the translated english subtitles left out.

02. handwriting the japanese language

03. preparing typical japanese breakfast foods (as well as being pretty good at it).

04. using first-person pronouns when referring to japanese people (i.e. ‘we’, acknowledging that i am a part of that group).

05. having a good enough grip on the language to interact with japanese-speaking internet communities.

06. using expressions like いただきます before i begin eating, ただいま when i return home… you get the idea.

bonus: knowing how to use the 9-key kana flick keyboard… and actually feeling a little lost when presented with a romaji keyboard 草

for those who are transabled, trace, transharmful, etc, what made you think of identifying this way ?

For us, it is not all of us that identify that way -- I should clarify I am a system haah so the plural identification isn't confusing. I'll put the rest under the cut since I talk a tad too much.

To start, our Transracial identity is very personal. Our mother introduced us to Japanese media early on in our life and we've been very attached to it since as it's always provided a unique comfort. We originally labeled ourself Otaku for this reason, but then it too became a controversial word to apply to yourself and it had never quite fit us either.

When we found out about the Transid community, we felt as though we finally had a name to the yearning we had felt for our entire life. I have never liked the body I inhabit, nor the place I live. It just always felt incorrect to me, to put it concisely.

You can blame it on idealization of Japanese culture if you wish, but I find the way I feel towards Japan is not actually quite as idealized - I keep up with a lot of what goes on there, even if I have yet to learn my own language.

As for Transharmful identities, in part for us it is to counter how people have treated us in the past. We have become very Withdrawn and Fearful of others --- identifying as Harmful, whether it is true to how we behave or not, makes us feel safer. If we are hurt, we can bite if we wish.

Obsessive Attatchment disorder is a MUD (Medically Unrecognized Disorder) coined by myself (the-harbingers-of-pure-chaos). This disorder causes beings to become obsessive and extremely attached to beings they are close with.

Symptoms include:

• Becoming distressed when certain people are not around

• Being extremely protective of people you are close with

• Extreme happiness and/or excitement when close people are around

• Becoming sick to the stomach when they are not paying attention to you

• Being extremely jealous when they don't do something with you and choosing to do it with someone else

• Extreme anxiety when said person(s) are upset or angry

• Desire to do anything and everything to make them happy

• Begging for comfort and affection

I apologize if this seems like just regular experiences, I don't find these things regular experiences for myself, which is why I am making a MUD for it.
