He just doesn’t. Especially not in front of other people

But sometimes he has a really really rough day and he’s just too upset. He’s either going to hurt himself or cry

This time, he chose to cry

He thought everyone was asleep (he was on the Curtis’s couch)

And he just started crying

He cries into his jacket

He’s pretty quiet about it, but soft sobs sometimes escape from him

And Darry wasn’t asleep

He came into the living room quietly, to see Dallas shaking under the blanket

“Dal?”

Dally jumps slightly, turning to stare at him

He looks a lot younger when he cries

“Sorry”

“Don’t be sorry. What’s wrong?”

And Dally kinda breaks

He’s biting his hand to stop the noise but he’s definitely crying and he explains and Darry’s... kinda helpless

He can’t get the kid a home

He can’t bring back his mom

He can’t do anything

But he listens and helps Dally fall back asleep and insists that he joins them for breakfast the next morning and that’s enough
