First Tutoring Session with First Ever Client!
Hello Parents, Tutors, Teachers, and Friends!
Today is the day I have had the opportunity to tutor my first two students for this school year. I am very excited to announce I have continued to book more sessions with the both of them. When I got the notification that I got this client, I honestly could not have been more excited in my life. I absolutely love working with children and watching them grow spiritually, academically, and intellectually!
In today’s session, I have had the pleasure of assisting Student #1 with preparing for their spelling test on Friday as well as helping them finish their homework that pertained to defining definitions of words and putting the definition into their own words. Some of today’s words were:
-Father
-High
-Right
-Table
-June
Student #1 was very well focused and completed his homework assignment in less than an hour! We spent the rest of the session reviewing his spelling words for his spelling test this upcoming Friday. Student #1 is off to a great start and is well-prepared for the spelling test at the end of the week. These spelling tests will be consistent as they are weekly tests. It was my first time teaching 5th Grade Spelling/ELA and I honestly surprised myself with how well I taught, I’m not going to lie. I have taught ELA in lower levels before, but this was my first time being able to help someone over the 3rd grade!
Student #2 also did very well today. Today we went over spelling and word pyramids as the homework assignment. This student knows how to spell very well and is very smart! One of her struggles is a behavioral disorder that allows the student to have a very hard time focusing, but within due time Student #2 will be right back on track and we will have tons of fun with their lessons! Here’s an example of word pyramids
If you’re writing a word pyramid for the word “hospital”, it would look like this:
H
H O
H O S
H O S P
H O S P I
H O S P I T
H O S P I T A
H O S P I T A L
I remember doing these word pyramids as a kid and to be honest, I remember them being super fun as they are a really good exercise to help your spelling skills. Repetition is a big key factor in helping you memorize how a word is spelled! Student #2 needs a special tutoring plan that helps their ability to focus, have fun, and get ahead all at the same time. I really love being able to customize tutoring plans for students because every single student is unique in their own way. I truly love being able to cater to student needs and watching their growth by promoting the methods of teaching that they benefit best from!
Needless to say, I am absolutely grateful to be given this opportunity and I am really excited to nurture their hidden potential. I personally believe EVERY single kid is smart, especially in their own ways. I feel it is our responsibility, as future educators, to be able to take their skills and enhance what they know. Continuing and promoting their talents is very important when it comes to uncovering a student's potential. I honestly can’t stress enough how important being involved and getting to know your students can be.
These next few days and blog posts are going to be very exciting, interesting, and note-worthy!
Stay tuned and take care of yourselves, my fellow peers!
