Coffee date

“Maybe we can wait and see,” Sam replied, a smile playing over his lips, “it’s still a few days away, so who knows maybe I got some more energy then.” He knew what Quinn meant, the pie reminded him of the pies his grandma used to make, “I think it’s kinda like all granny’s pies,” Sam replied, he leaned back, nodding his head, “probably, but they should find something better.”

He hummed, Quinn was right, there was no rules about dating within the staff at the school, and Sam was pretty sure that there was a couple of teachers that were married to each other. “Yeah, you’re right, but if it’s okay with you,” he looked at her, “I could join you, work on my stuff while you work on yours.”

“Yeah, sure,” Quinn replied, “we still have time to decide and it’s not a hard decision as well. Town fair or.. hey, maybe we can bake at home. We’ll see.” Quinn let out a small laugh at Sam’s remark. “Well... don’t be so hard on them. I know it’s annoying on our side but I think it’s better for them to gossip around about their teacher other than bullying other students..”

“Of course it’s okay for you to join me,” she replied, looking back at him, “I would love to spend more time with you especially since I hardly saw you earlier at the school.” Quinn finished off her coffee, “I’m ready to go if you are.”

“Yeah, the weekend can’t come soon enough,” Sam replied, “I need just a couple of days of doing nothing really.” A small smile playing over his lips as she pushed the plate closer to her, “take a bit, and it’s apple,” he said, “of course they do, they don’t have anything better to do.”

Getting the girls to actually believe them was hard, Sam was actually surprised that no one had said anything about them directly to his face before. The rumors had been there almost since the first day, and it didn’t help that he and Quinn had gotten along great from the start. “Well,” Sam replied, “they got nothing,” he said with a small smile, he placed his hand over hers giving it a small squeeze, “besides all they got is us sharing coffee and besides that we’re not doing anything wrong.”

“Well, if you’re too tired we can always stay in this weekend, you know. Maybe just relaxing at home is what we need,” Quinn responded. As Sam pushed the plate closer to her, Quinn took the fork and taking a bite of the apple pie. “I’ve never tried this one before, it’s pretty good. Reminds me of Granny Fabray’s apple pie...” she said, “yeah, it’s one of their form of entertainment, I guess.”

Quinn gave Sam a small smile as he squeezed her hand, “yeah, it’s not like we’re doing something illegal.” She then proceeded to interlace their hand together, “anyways, this has been a really nice distraction from the work so thank you for letting me steal you away from your playbooks, tho maybe we should get back to work soon if we still want to have that relaxing night...”

Sam smiled, taking a sip of his coffee, and a bit of the pie. “It’s been a long week, hopefully the rest will pass by fast.” He might have to skip out on the rest of the plays he was planning on going through tonight, a good nights sleep was probably what he needed more. “Yeah, I think you’re right. And I’m sure that they won’t mind, it’s not like there’s a lot of things you can do in Lima.”

It didn’t come as a surprise that the girls didn’t believe them, but as long as they didn’t do too much damage it wouldn’t be a problem. And besides that it wasn’t the first time he had heard rumors about him and Quinn. This might be the first time they had somewhat proof. “Quinn’s right, we met up here, to share some coffee between friends before we have to get back to working.” Sam gave the girls a small smile, “and I’m sure you got some homework you need to do to.”

“I hope so, can’t wait for the weekend,” Quinn agreed, “hey, what pie is that? can I steal a bite?” Quinn took another sip of her coffee. As much as she loved to stay longer in the coffee shop, she would love to have enough sleep so she needs to finish her work fast. “Yeah, they’ll just have more things about us to gossip around...”

Quinn wasn’t surprised that the girls didn’t believe a thing they said. After all, there has been rumors about her and Sam ever since Sam started coaching at the school. “I don’t believe you,” Candice replied. “You don’t have to, but we’re being honest here,” Quinn said, “and Sam’s right. I do believe you guys have some homework to do...” Candice just shrugged her shoulders. “Okay, okay. Anyway, enjoy your date Miss Fabray and Coach Evans. See you tomorrow at school!” The girls finally left and Quinn sighed. “We’re not even at the town fair yet and there’s another rumor ready to be spread around tomorrow...”

“Yeah,” Sam replied, “I think we both need that to relax before getting back to work.” He knew what the plan was from the beginning but he hadn’t known how much work Quinn, but it did sound like she would like if they spent some more time together tonight. “Right, forgot about that,” Sam replied, “that actually sounds fun.”

It was pretty great that they managed to help each other with answers to the questions that their students had for them. “yeah, exactly, since we work together.” Sam let out a small breath, smiling at Quinn. “Oh, right I remember those,” he said, and he turned to the group of girls, “y’know all nighter’s almost never works so I wouldn’t suggest doing that too often.”

“We do. It’s been a long week for me and it’s not even Friday yet..” Quinn replied. She was happy to know that her and Sam were in the same page. After all, their relationship was still fairly new and it was natural that both of them want to spend more time together. “It’s gonna be super fun. I went there last year with Penny and it was amazing. You’ll like it,” she replied, “but there’s a big chance we’re going to run into some students there...”

As Quinn heard Sam’s responses, she kept her eyes close to the girls, studying their reaction, and she knew that Candice, the girl that has been questioning them didn’t buy any of it. “Oh come on, Miss Fabray, Coach Evans. We all know it’s a date. We saw you two came in together earlier, also the holding hands and the kiss...” Candice said, “and no, we’re not pulling an all-nighter, we’re just getting some hot chocolate after practice that’s all..” Quinn tried to keep herself as calm as possible before responding, “Well, that’s definitely not us cause we just met here...”

“Okay,” Sam replied, “then I’ll let you get back to it when we’re done here,” he said, a small smile playing on his lips. His first thought that they could maybe watch something together, but he’d let Quinn finish up work, and they could do something later during the week. “Maybe we can do something Saturday. It’s been awhile since we did a museum or game.”

Sam wasn’t sure on how he was supposed to react to the students, he knew that he shouldn’t be surprised about a few students showing up, it was after all the only coffee places they would go to. “Hey,” Sam replied, he waved his hand, he turned to Quinn, shrugging his shoulders, it wasn’t really anything they could do. “Why are you here?” one of the girls asked, Sam wasn’t sure on what her name was. “Coffee,” Sam replied, “I’m guessing you’re here for the same thing, before we get back to work.” Sam smiled as he turned to Quinn. “Is this like a date. You’re dating!” He had no idea on what to say.

“And I’ll let you go back to your playbook too,” Quinn said, mirroring his smile, “but I don’t mind a little cuddling as well.” That was her initial plan after all: work and cuddle. At his words, Quinn shook her head. “No museum, no game. Remember when we talked about the town fair?”

Quinn bit her lips, she wasn’t sure how to react, but Sam handled it quite well. It’s true, tho. They were here for coffee, just like them. Tho at the girl’s next question, it was Sam who didn’t know what to say. “Well, we met at the counter actually and there’s no harm on sitting at the same table, right?” she shrugged her shoulder and gave a glance to Sam before turning to the student again, “are you guys trying to pull an all-nighter tonight? only those people are drinking coffee at this time..”

Sam shrugged his shoulders, “maybe, but then they need to make sure that the rest of the team is with them,” he shook his head, “and that’s not always the easiest thing to do.” Sam was sure that he could probably talk to a couple of players, the ones that could see how things would play out.

“Yeah, we should,” he agreed, it was nice to come out, and now that they had finally established what they actually was it was a lot easier to do things together. “Yeah,” Sam made sure he had everything before e walked to the table where Quinn had sat down, he placed the try on the table, before handing Quinn her coffee, he placed the pie between them, before taking a seat himself on the other side. “So how much more grading do you have to do?” 

It didn’t take too long before Sam joined her on their table. “Thank you,” she said as she received her coffee and took a sip, “let see if this could keep me awake for a few more hours.” At his question, Quinn let out a breath. “One more class to go, which means around 20 more papers. I can take my time, but I’ve been delaying things for a while now so...”

“Miss Fabray?” Suddenly Quinn heard someone called her name. She turned to see who was calling her and she saw a group of students standing by the counter. “And Coach Evans?” Quinn tried her best to keep her composure and greeted the students back, “hi guys!”, before turning to Sam and gave him a ‘oh my god we’re screwed’ look.

Sam let out a small breath, “yeah, but at least I don’t have to do grading, all I have to do is figure out what players should play depending on what play we’re doing.” He ran a hand over his head, “and let’s just get something to make us stay awake for a few more hours.”

He shook his head, and yeah, he wasn’t really hungry but something sweet that they could share would be pretty nice. “Okay,” he replied, taking her hand in his. Sam placed his order, a simple black coffee and a piece of apple pie with some ice cream. He paid for everything when they had their orders ready, “so why don’t you find us a place to sit, and I’ll come join you.” Sam made sure he had everything before he followed Quinn.

Quinn nodded her head. “Well, grading is kinda fun for me. It’s really interesting to see how all the kids thinks. Maybe your players did the same as well? I mean, they might have different ideas regarding the play or something,” she replied.

As Sam took her hand in his, she intertwined their fingers together. She tiptoed to press a kiss on his cheek. “This is really nice, you know. We should do this more often,” she told him. After Sam placed his order, she put hers, a soy cappuccino, and nodded when Sam asked her to find a seat, “okay, I’ll see you in a bit.” Quinn walked to an empty table near the window and took a seat there, waiting for Sam and their coffees.

Sam smiled at her, pressing a small kiss against her cheek. “Yeah,” he replied, “but I think I needed to get away from them, at least for awhile.” A small breath left his lips, “and I guess I’m taking you away from grading your papers.” Sam pressed his lips together, before he offered his arm for her to take. 

The drive to the Lima bean wasn’t that long, and it didn’t take long until they arrived. He pushed the door open for them, to enter the small coffee shop, looking around, and there was enough free tables for them. “Want to order something more than just coffee a brownie or a muffin or something?” he asked, waiting in line for them to order, “or maybe a pie to share.”

“It’s getting tiring, isn’t it? I know that feeling,” Quinn replied. She took his arm, leaned her head against it as they walked to Sam’s car. “Well, you’re not. I’m the one who’s running away from it cause I need to stay up if I’m actually going to do some grading...” she said with a chuckle.

The drive wasn’t that long and before she knew it, they’ve arrived at Lima bean. As it was night time, the coffee shop wasn’t that busy. Staying close to her boyfriend, she replied, “Nah, I’m good. But if you’re like hungry, you can order something. I’ll steal a bite.”

Sam grabbed everything he needed, wallet, phone, keys and he grabbed his bag with the playbooks in, if he followed Quinn back home after their coffee he would need them to look over. He got into the car, he started it, pressing the gas down as he drove over to Quinn’s building.

It didn’t take him long to reach her house, and he got out, knocking on the door waiting for Quinn, “hey,” he said, a small smile playing over his lips, and he pressed a kiss to her cheek, “ready to go?” Sam asked, “I was thinking the Lima bean, might be the only place open right now with some decent coffee.”

Quinn could’ve make her own coffee at home, but she totally wouldn’t mind going for a coffee date with her boyfriend. She decided to grade a few more papers before Sam arrives, because who knows, he might ended up staying over later and that would mean more cuddling, less working.

The wait wasn’t too long, before she knew it, someone was knocking on her door. Taking all her things that she needed, she headed to the door and opened it. “Hey to you too,” she smiled as he kissed her cheek. “Yeah, I’m ready, and Lima bean would be fine,” she answered while locking her door, “sorry if I take you away from your playbooks...”

Sam: I guess you can do that. I don't want you to fall asleep.

Quinn: You're literally the best. Can you pick me up? Or do you want to meet at the usual place?

Sam: Yeah, exactly but i'm pretty sure my family won't be as bad.

Sam: Not much trying to figure out some plays while watching an old games.

Quinn: We'll have to see.

Quinn: Any chance I can drag you for a short coffee date? I'm falling asleep and I still have tons of papers to grade.

Sam: I'm sure I can handle your dad, and I know that like most moms like me.

Quinn: Of course.

Quinn: Watch me being all confident about you meeting my family and freak out later when it's my turn to meet yours.

Quinn: Any way. What are you doing right now?

Sam: Okay, I guess I can do that.

Sam: Kids like me, but I guess if the kids like me their parents has to like me too.

Quinn: Of course you can do that. You'll be fine.

Quinn: Don't worry much, kay? It's just my brother, it's not like you're meeting my dad. I know that feeling, meeting the parents are kinda scary.

Quinn: But as you put it. I like you, so my parents have to like you too :)

Sam: Okay. We got a plan.

Sam: yeah, you did but I did't think I'd meet all of them.

Sam: I can totally deal with kids. They'll love me. I'll brush up on my Disney characters impressions.

Quinn: Well, you weren't suppose to meet everyone. My brother just wanna have some coffee. But then his wife wants us to meet over lunch so...

Quinn: I know. My nieces would love you. They'll steal my boyfriend for a day.

Sam: Yeah, I think we gotta kinda come clean.

Sam: You probably should and I'll tell Mike.

Sam: Wait I thought it was like just your brother.

Quinn: Yeah, I think we do.

Quinn: I'll tell her. And you should tell him. He's your best friend.

Quinn: I did tell you that he's coming to town with his family, right?

Quinn: You'll be fine, babe. My brother would probably ask you lots of things, my sister-in-law would not bug you a lot, my nieces... well, they'll want to play with Uncle Sam.

Sam: Okay so maybe we can like start small with family and friends.

Sam: but they all kinda already know I'm dating someone.

Sam: Okay, we can do that. As long as it's not everyone at once.

Quinn: Alright. I definitely need to tell my family first cause my brother already have the suspicion and my mom would kill me if I don't tell her.

Quinn: And maybe Penny. She's been bugging me. A lot.

Quinn: Well not everyone, but you'll definitely meet his wife and kids as well...
