me thinking abt the suppression of poe dameronās gay rights
We shouldāve known they force a completely unnecessary and frankly uncomfortable het romance on Poe.. we canāt have anything nice
JJ said this is a straights only event and we really believed otherwise
Gay Character of the Night: resistance pilot and commander Poe Dameron
I donāt know a the rise of skywalker and iām a š¤”
see my thing w rose is that she was screwed over as a character y'know? and she and finn were SO put on the backburner compared to rey/lo (which Hmmmm but i digress) and she was just done so dirty in the movie i LOVE kelly and just watching her i know she could do so much more if she had a script that was Good but uh. she didn't. anyway. yeah. have a good day and always remember that poe dameron is gay.
tbh i think that while the romance thing with rose was rushed and unnecessary (and seeing that there was more to that is...lol) but as a whole i think her character was actually really well executed and that she was given a real arc and significance which is...not what i was expecting going into it.
anyone else at this party get how fucking cool it was to be in the theater watching a fucking star war and seeing a heroic character played by the daughter of impoverished vietnamese refugees talking about how colonialism and capitalist exploitation and poverty had affected her family and her home? and then to have that immediately followed by a neck-breaking action sequence where she totally wrecks the evil rich peopleās shit and frees the animals that theyāre abusing? it was SO rad and absolutely not pointless and i do not understand the legions of people saying that the movie is racist for giving rose that plot lmao
OK, Yall, Iāve finally seen TLJ and Iām ready to talk about it! The short version: I didnāt hate it. It wasnāt my worst nightmare, but it does have flaws. More details under the cut:

People are shipping Poe and Rey š because of that one scene of them saying hello to each other. Now I'm scared Disney is going to make it happen.
donāt be, oscarās holding a gun to jjās head demanding gay poe as we speak.(they just needed to show that all of the protagonists know one another)
You may not think that kills Rose's character but for a number of fans especially black fans it did. You asked why people were being critical of her as if they were unfairly targeting as Woc when in reallity it was about antiblackness. .
i say this with total sincerity when i say thatās valid
i was totally terrified by all the pro r*ylo stuff i saw on this hellsite before tlj, so my expectations were extremely lowered. but all the wild r*ylo stuff online was totally taken out of context, and after the movie i was so relieved, rey just was trying to do the right thing and trying to see the big picture and the whole thing with kylo made him out to be the whiny bitch he really is and i'm so glad that happened because it really sets them up to be true enemies and i think r*ylo is DEAD āŗļø
tlj spoilers LITERALLY IT ENDS WITH THEM BEING ENEMIES FOR LIFE JFNDNFFNJFKFJ
People have been critical of Rose for tasing Finn and talking down to him.
re: the tasing; i acknowledge that media and politics arenāt the separate entities that people make them out to be and that even though the world of star wars might be ~post racial we live in an environment and are consuming this media in a context where that isnāt the case. she was stopping people trying to abandon ship and i think thatās important to keep in mind, especially since...how else are people expecting her to stop him? thereās a lot of complexity there and i understand people not wanting to see black people be harmed on screen, i just donāt think that itās an incident that kills roseās character.
re: talking down to finn; iām assuming this is re: canto bight? this is another thing where i understand the dislike but i think thatās oversimplifying things. herĀ ātalking downā is a result of the fact that finn (unknowingly) hits a sore spot with her past and she reacts accordingly. once finn understands where sheās coming from and how the first order has treated people in order to create establishments like canto bight he agrees with her too. itās conflict rooted in her relationship with her backstory (+ class and you could probably argue colonialism/imperialism).
Having watched tlj and im so confused as to how people saw the movie as pro r*ylo or pro kylo? I felt like it was pretty obviously anti both but the way people were reacting to it before i saw the movie made me think it would be otherwise
personally it felt pro r*ylo to me (or at least heading that way) when we had the scenes with rey and k*lo being connected, like they had a ~*~special connection~*~
but then it turned out to be just more of Snokeās manipulative bullshit, and k*lo might have turned on Snoke but he didnāt actually turn back to the light side, so yeah, after that reveal it didnāt feel pro either of those things to me
It was marketed as pro r*ylo and i see why people think it was leading towards but by the end its so very clearly anti reylo? And from now on their relationship is probably going to be shown as enemies
There are definitely valid arguments about how poc were treated in tlj but just seeing 3 characters of color interact without the presence of a white character was so special me. Iām still thinking about how important it was just seeing finn and rose interacting and working together.
Why are you all hating rose?

i guess it could be seen as pro r*ylo since it develops some kind of weird relationship between the two of them, but i donāt really see it as pro or anti at all. it explores how the two of them can relate to each other and how they approach their powers differently, but itās no more than that.
i donāt think the movie is necessarily pro kylo either. it provides some deeper understanding for why he acts the way he does and for how he feels, but heās still the bad guy. most of all, i think tlj really established that he isnāt redeemable; he can break free from snoke, but heās still selfish and hungry for power.Ā
It definitely explored their relationship and i agree it wasnāt pro or anti at all. They were always narratively set up as two sides of the same coin and opposites so it makes sense for that to be shown. Youāre definitely right about the kylo part too and i was actually very happy with how the snoke situation turned out.
Qearly is my main blog and iām on mobile so all the replies are coming from it lmao
Kylo was given screentime and explored a lot more (which was expected) but nothing he did was ever shown in a positive light... the entire movie he was portrayed as irrational, manipulative, and pathetic and im not a huge rian johnson fan but people calling him a fascist sympathizer when the movie made it clear that these people are evil and beyond saving is so baffling
