So… which one do you think is better, the left or the right?

So, I’m planning on updating all my teams’ apps (especially since some of them are getting a new member sometime) and I wanted to go with a paint-like style. This is all new to me. Mainly the background gives me trouble. Do you guys have any tips on how I can make this look better, or does it look fine as it is?
