more university tips
hello everyone! i recently finished my 2nd year of university, so here are some university tips, version 2.0. you can read some more tips here.
failure is not the end of the world. it happens. one class and one failed exam are not the entirety of your academic life and skills. it sometimes might be because of circumstances outside your reach. spend the necessary time crying and being upset, then straighten your back and start working again.
related to that: learn to celebrate your successes. at some point during this year, i became so crippled by the fear and disappointed generated by my relatively small failures, that i forgot to enjoy the moments when i actually did well. iâd get a 10 in an exam for which i studied the whole semester, and think âah, thatâs nothing, it is expected of meâ and shrug off all the work i put in, but iâd completely put myself down because of my mistakes. please donât fall in the same self-loathing circle. there are ups and downs, such is life, so please learn to celebrate your moments of glory, because those were made by your efforts and hard work and deserve to be validated.Â
there are several things more important than your studies: your physical and mental health and your friends and family. take time to relax and step away from school work and the stress that inevitably comes with it. keep nurturing your relationship with others! it will be people who will be there for you when youâll have a midnight breakdown, when youâll get confused about your future, when youâll need some cheering on. it is people who give true purpose to our lives. donât leave them in the dust just because youâre pursuing your academic career now. donât ignore signs of tiredness and stress either, your body knows what it needs and it will ask it of you.
slightly related: donât let knowledge change you. and what i actually mean by this is: donât be an elitist. a truly intelligent person knows how to talk with someone with the same amount of education as them, but also to the neighbor who didnât finish high school.Â
take a few seconds in the morning to make your bed; it will feel so much nicer to come back to: having an ordered space after you wrecked your brains in class.Â
clean up your bag once / week. i change my bags quite frequently, so i indirectly do this without having to remind myself, but: this way youâll know what you need to stock up on (tissues, hand sanitizer, your favorite pens) and you can organize your notes and papers as you go, rather than try to find your materials a few days before your exams. Â
donât be afraid to ask for help. go to office hours. no one was born knowing everything, and your professors and the adults around you all want you to succeed.Â
donât put off laundry. iâm so guilty of doing this, but itâs really better to stress a bit now, than find yourself in a pitch because your clothes you need to wear are all dirty. wash small items by hand.Â
always make time for your hobbies: those are your happy hours away from the crushing reality of school and adulthood, lol. i like to rewind watching one or two episodes of a show as i go to bed or scroll through twitter.Â
do something out of your comfort zone from time to time. i am the most routine-loving person in the whole world, and even i get bored by my life from time to time. check the events around your area (as most probably have student discounts anyway!), or drag your friends someplace you always wanted to visit but didnât have the guts or time to until now.Â
plan your time, even if youâre not a planning person. i mean it. so many thing can get forgotten when youâre in the midst of things. if daily spreads donât work for you, do weekly ones where you write the things you need to get done and then organize your time accordingly to cross them out. if neither weekly spreads work, at least have a monthly calendar and write every single deadline you have, to keep track of when you need to be done reading texts, writing essays, handing in homework.Â
nothing is promised, so at least do what you like. i guess iâm talking from the depths of my humanities student soul when i say this, as it is one area that offers no financial guarantee once youâre done, but it seems to be the case with most majors tbh. so: at least study something you know you will enjoy, even if itâs not too fitting in your area of expertise. because you will at least get some happiness from it.Â
donât leave things until the last minute. most of the time, whatever you dread doing will be done in way less time than you anticipated.
always keep some cash on you; at least enough to buy yourself a meal.
others cannot read your mind. if something is bothering, please speak up! especially necessary if you have roommates: any relationship is based on constant communication, and if you want to make your life easier, you need to respectfully and calmly discuss what bothers you. in school: if a teacher does an anonymous survey on what they should change about your class, complete it as honestly as you can! it is, in the end, for your own benefit.Â
please, please go for walks or do some kind of physical exercises. i sometimes had back pain so horrible i couldnât fall asleep at night, and if there is an easy way to keep your body functional: this.Â
if you find yourself burnt out, make some tea and maybe watch some vlogs on youtube, aimlessly scroll on studyblr or look up motivational quotes. i found that it also helped to print / write down on sticky notes those quotes and messages that made me want to work hard and put them on my wall (use washi tape since it wonât leave marks!) so i could stare at them whenever iâd find my mind drifting.
time passes SO fast. i have no idea how on earth another year went by. itâs scary, and i regret so many things. donât let school cripple you, do things that make you sing with the joy of being alive and just do your best.Â

Tips For A Broke Hoeâš
1. Download your bankâs app onto your phone so you can check your account balance and transactions. This can help prevent you from spending too much money, keep track of what youâre buying and how often, and can also catch identity and bank theives early so you donât lose all your money. 2. Get a job with a place you shop at frequently. A majority of retail companies give their employees some generous discounts (for example I work at Kohls and we get 15% normally, plus frequent 20/20/15% stacked friends and familu discounts, plus frequent 35% off everything discounts, AND employees can stack coupons and Kohlâs cash when other customers canât). 3. COUPONS HOE!!! Clip coupons from paper ads, download RetailMeNot, and sign up for the free Rewards programs with your fav stores to get updates on sales and additional coupons. 4. Try to avoid vending machines and eating out. Thisâll help you stop eating junk food as much, and save you some dough. 5. If youâre dissatisfied with a product (especially makeup), EMAIL THE COMPANY. They will typically compensate you with a refund, or a coupon, or even a free alternative product. 6. Keep your receipts for expensive items or items that you arenât too sure about, and familiarize yourself with that storeâs return policy. 7. Take advantage of student discounts. A lot of fast food places and clothing stores aaccept discounts with your student ID. 8. Cheap But Amazing Makeup Brands: MAKEUP REVOLUTION, NYX, ELF, Essence, Maybelline, Covergirl, and Loreal Paris (all available at Ulta, Target, Walmart, or your local pharmacy) 9. Talk to your bank about setting up a Certificate of Deposit (CD). This is a particular savings account that when you invest your money, it accumulates mote interest over a set amount of time, so when yhat time is up you have more money than what you started with. Be careful with these though, because interest rates can vary, and if you withdraw any money from your CD before the set time is up, you can lose your interest or even your original funds. This is good for saving up bulk amounts of money for college, cars, or a home. 10. Set up budgets for each week/month/year to regulate your spending. Categorize your money imto things like âFood,â âClothes,â âGas,â âPersonal Care,â âBills,â etc. 11. Order water at restaurants. At fast food places, ask for a water cup. Water is ALWAYS free, and itâs much healthier for you than soft drinks. 12. Unplug your chargers/cords when you arent using that shit to save on your electricity bill. 13. ShopđatđtheđGoodwillđ. They have actual cute, retro shit for way cheaper than your typical bougie places. 14. A lot of times you can get FREE SHIT by filling out surveys on your reciepts after shopping somewhere. Ulta enters you into a lottery to win a $500 gift card, Kohlâs gets you more coupons, etc. 15. Set aside $5 every week. Youâll save over $200 by the end of the year to treat yourself with. 16. Sluggbooks.com is AMAZING for buying college textbooks. It compares prices and rental fees among different websites and companies to help you get the best deal. 17. RENTđYOURđTEXTBOOKSđITSđSOđMUCHđCHEAPERđ 18. Take advantage of free concerts, parks, festivals, etc as somethin to do. Who said you gotta spend money to have fun? 19. Sell, return, or donate shit you donât need or want. Liking everything you have (clothes, makeup, appliances, etc) is gonna keep you organized and simple, and gives you an idea of what you want/need so you go into a store without splurging on even more shit you donât need (I know its a little confusing, but trust me your life will be so much easier) 20. I know this should be obvious, but have a good work ethic. Youâre more likely to get raises and promotions. Every single is a potential reference, and you never know when youâll be in a pinch for money and may need that job back temporarily. 21. Donât waste all of your money on stupid shit like drugs or alcohol; its expensive and toxic for your beautiful body anyway. 22. Keep your bills, receipts, taxes, insurance policies, and other important personal information in the same organized place (I recommend a labelled file cabinent or binder). Financial organization is đ 23. Keep a journal of everything you buy & how much you spent in a month. At the end of each month, review and assess what were necessary buys and what you can cut down on next month. 24. If youâre a college student, a lot of schools have a free gym membership. Use it.
Thats all for now, hoesđ

colour your notes! highlighting and adding colour to notes helps you retain information and remember things faster. use different colours throughout your notes to have more specific and easy-to-understand notes. [eg. use lighter colours like light blue for points you want to highlight and darker colours like purple for the main body] again, as mentioned earlier, if colourful notes arenât your thing donât do it!Â
while revising, read notes aloud. it helps you remember things easily, because it sounds like someone is explaining it to you. even better if you do it in a foreign accent tbh, that always works for me (i read notes aloud in an american accent sometimes). this method is most effective if youâre an auditory learner.
most importantly, find what works for you. there are so many note-taking methods out there; find a system that you feel is most effective/helpful based on the type of learner you are. if you feel like nothing you read online is helpful, create your own method of note-taking instead.

Hey, Tumblr.
Today is May 1. The first day of Mental Health Month. This entire month we want to nudge all of you to celebrate triumphs, acknowledge struggles, and just come together. Let other people know theyâre not alone. Feel less alone yourself. Itâs what Post it Forward is all about.
One of the incredible ways youâall of youâhave helped shape Tumblr is with your ability to be open and honest. Â It was you that turned this platform into a community, one based on genuine expression, creativity, and acceptance.
Neat. How can I participate?
Glad you asked! Each week, for all four weeks, weâll be giving you ideas for ways to Post it Forward.
Week 1âPost it for you: How you practice self-care and personal well-being.
Week 2âPost it for each other: Ways you can be there for each other.
Week 3âPost it for reflection: Sharing stories of personal growth and development.
Week 4âPost it for the future: Committing to continuous reflection and improvement.
This week is all about posting for you. Acts of self-care. Here are some places to start:
Post an emoji spell for self-care and positivity. đ đź đ đ±
Share a photo or GIF of something that calms you down. Donât have one? Hereâs one.
Whatâs the one thing that always cheers you up? Post a photo of it, take a GIF, or illustrate it. Toss a sticker on it, if youâd like.
Never forget that you are valid! Post a selfie with âvalidâ sticker (see below).
Make a list of things you like about yourself.
Make a checklist of 5 acts of self-care you promise to do for yourself this week.
Make an audio post with a song that helps you zone out and re-energize.
Donât forget to tag all your posts with #postitforward this month! It makes it easier for everyone to find each otherâs contributions.
What else?
Weâve asked our pal Tumblrbot (@tumblrbot) to help out with any extra encouragement you might need. Try sending them messages like âtell me about Mental Health Monthâ or âwhatâs this weekâs prompt?â Tumblrbot will let you know whatâs up, because Tumblrbot is a friend to all of us.
We got Answer Times, all of them taking place right here on Post it Forward unless indicated otherwise:

Apps for productivity and time management
There is no doubt that phones and laptops can be distracting when trying to study. Attempting to balance using either for fun and working can be difficult, especially if get distracted easily. Here are 12 apps that you can download to make your time management a million times better!
Forest - $1.99 iOS | free android | chrome | firefox | website Grow a tree each time you set a period of time to focus. Exit the app and your little tree dies! You can add friends, unlock new trees, exchange coins for real trees (!!), and track each time you are productive. A lot of people ask if this app is worth it and Iâd say definitely. It is the cutest time management application Iâve come across. Whilst there are similar alternatives, I like this the best. You can add me using my email: [email protected]. If youâd like me to add you back, send me your account address!
FocusNow - free | iOSÂ | website Very similar to Forest, but free! Grow a plant whilst you work and leaving app means your tree dies. The app also helps to build your habits with progress tracking and reminders. You can add friends and compete against them! This is definitely a great alternative to Forest if you donât want to pay.
Tide - free | iOS | android | website If you enjoy listening to something whilst studying but get distracted with regular playlists, this app is for you! Combining white noise - either the ocean, rain, forest, meditation and a coffee shop - you can block out distractions whilst managing your time. I seriously love the minimalist design of this app.
ClearFocus - free | iOS | android | website A really simple app that alternates working sessions with short breaks. You can set a time for your break sessions which will help you actually get back to studying. You can also check out statistics on your progress which is great for improving your discipline.
Be Focused - free iOS | $4.99 mac | website A very detailed to-do list and pomodoro timer combined. Again, it alternates time periods with short breaks! This app can be synced between all your devices which is awesome if you use different ones during the day. I like the simple design of this one too!
Focus To-Do: $1.49 |Â iOS One of the top five productivity apps in China! It is a super comprehensive app with loads of features so if you enjoy tracking your productivity, this is one for you! Unfortunately, it is only available on iOS and costs.
Focus Keeper - free |Â iOS Simple and flexible app for time tracking with lots of options for customisation. I think itâs really cool the app adds a widget on notifications when youâre using the app. You can also choose background music to help you focus.
Pomodoro: Grow and Harvest - free | iOS Very similar to Forest in essence of growing a plant, however upon completion you get to harvest your fruit. I actually really like the design of this app. Unlike Forest, your crops donât die if you exit the application but the timer does reset. This is good in a way since youâll stay on the app but could get annoying if you were to check something but wanted to leave the timer running.
Flat Tomato - free |Â iOSÂ | website A really cool and interactive app! You can easily plan out an hour of your time with certain periods for working and others for a long and short break. I think it is a great way to keep focus without having to reset your phone. You can also reflect on your daily motivation, distractions and possible improvements. There are loads of customisation of settings, colours and sounds. Â
Pomodrone - free with pro version |Â iOSÂ | website Simple and cute flat design timer app. The free version is only a pomodoro timer with 25 minute working and 5 minute break periods. Whilst you donât have control over changing these times, it is quite good if you want to be strict with your time. If you purchase the pro version, you have the option to change the times and colours, set daily goals and see performance statistics.Â
Brain Focus Productivity Timer - free | android One of the most popular time management apps for android. You can set specific tasks with certain times which is great for improving your efficiency and discipline. For instance, if you do a task each day you can have certain work and break times, and then access it quickly. Another cool option is that you can easily add a couple of extra minutes to the timer without needing to reset the whole thing. Definitely, a great option, especially since it is free!
FocusList: Focus timer and daily planner - $4.99 iOSÂ | $4.99Â mac I really like the look of this app! You can plan out your daily to-do, set estimated times and then get on to using the timer to focus. This is great for improving your speed and prioritising your daily tasks. The statistics option allows you keep a track of your productivity! As well as being on your mac, you can use an Apple Watch for timing which I think is really cool! Sadly, it is a little expensive.
These are just a few time management and productivity apps that Iâve come across whilst running a studyblr. If youâve got any other app suggestions, please let me know via my ask! I hope you found this list useful and have found a new way to be productive! If any of these apps help, please let me know! x

3 Study Methods You Should Use More Often
This was originally for an article writing assignment, but I thought âwhy not write something I can also post on my blog?â so here are three study methods that I havenât seen a lot of in the studyblr community but are definitely worth mentioning.
The Leitner System
Flash cards have remained one of the most popular ways to study. Some people use them to memorize vocabulary, remember answers to specific questions, or even associate dates with events. Although the use of flash cards is convenient, their effectiveness has been reduced due to most peopleâs habits of prioritizing each card equally and therefore spending too much time memorizing the information on them.
The Leitner System, created by a German popularizer of science named Sebastian Leitner, is a more efficient method of studying that implements the concept of spaced repetition. All the cards start off in one pile. You would first scan through these cards, then test yourself. Each card you answer correctly goes to a second pile, while those you answer incorrectly should be revised then placed at the bottom of the pile. When you review the cards in the second pile and get them correct, they will be promoted to a third pile. An incorrect card will always get demoted to the first pile, even if they had previously been promoted to the last pile.
The reason why this method is so effective is that you end up reviewing the first pile of cards more frequentlyâthe cards you donât know very well. Some people choose to review their Stack 1 cards every day, Stack 2 cards every other day, Stack 3 cards once every three days, and so on.
Once all your cards have been promoted to the highest box, study them thoroughly and then start over. The continuous revision trains your speed so that you may reach fluency, which allows you to recall the information faster.
Timed Memorization
The name tells it all: you memorize a certain text within a time limit, normally around five to ten minutes depending on your fluency and memorization abilities. When the timer starts, you begin memorizing. When time is up, you flip to the next page, even if you havenât finished the previous page yet. Continue until youâve gone through all your material.
Timed memorization helps you to discipline yourself because your brain thinks that thereâs no time for messing around; you have to do this here and now. Make sure to repeat the things you missed and revise everything frequently. This method is actually one of the most effective for cramming as it gives a better coverage than if you spend a whole half hour memorizing one subtopic.
The Memory Palace or Mind Palace
Sound familiar? In BBCâs Sherlock, the âhighly functioning sociopathâ uses this method to remember vital information and facts. A mind palace is a systematic arrangement of information, each detail corresponding to a specific object in a familiar place. To ensure that you really remember everything, the objects have to appear shocking and conspicuous.
Hereâs an example: if I wanted to memorize âcrimson, 11, delight, petrichor (the smell after rain)â, aside from imagining Amy Pond or the Doctor saying it, I would first choose a place, letâs say my school. Iâd imagine myself walking up to the front gate and seeing that the entire building has been painted the color of bloodâcrimson. The building would then rise as though it were lifted from the earth and crumble into rubble, controlled by Eleven, the character from Stranger Things. Now, since I canât really picture delight specifically, Iâd probably end up visualizing a colossal sign that simply reads âdelightâ posted in front of my school. As for petrichor, Iâd imagine curves rising out of the puddles on the asphalt after a rainy night, a visual representation of the smell of the rain. Of course, these visualizations have been created to suit my memory. (I wouldnât know if you watched Stranger Things.)
I used this method when memorizing case studies for geography, although I chose to visualize fictional places from television series and cartoons. Some people do opt to create artificial places, but these often become blurry and are easily forgotten.
As with any study method, repetition is vital to storing the information in your long-term memory. Visit your âpalaceâ as often as you can. Soon enough, youâll remember the data as well as you remember the place associated with the data.
So there you have it, three lesser known methods of studying that have proven to be immensely efficient. Now, there is no âcorrectâ way to study, but there are methods that can ease your learning process.
In Case You Need This Today
you are not a failure
you are not a waste of space
you are loved
you are wanted
i believe in you
YOU CAN DO IT!!
I want to embrace you to lie my head on your shoulder to feel your warmth and listen to your heartbeats to loop my arms around your torso feeling the shape of you to run my arms on your shirt so that i know the feel of your shirt and let me engrave them to my memory Let me keep even the tiniest details of you; The smell of freshly washed shirt mixed with your unique scent The old softness of a regularly used shirt The firmness of relaxed muscle The smooth hardness of your beautiful colarbones The faint colors of veins leaping alive in your neck Let me remember you living in my memory For this love for you have died lifetimes before it started has lost its chance to grow and bloom
