no offense but like…..reblog the fics you like. there is nothing more discouraging than having people read your fic without leaving kudos or any form of response. comment if you like it! send them a message! use the tags to talk about how you liked it! share the work so that others can read it too!
too often fic writers deal with people hounding them for updates, but never any feedback. end the cycle. reblog the fics you like. talk about them. share them.
ATTENTION: For anyone who reads fanfiction without leaving feedback
Here’s a few things you should know:
Fanfiction is a gift.
Fic writers don’t have to share their works with you. They don’t have to write them at all. They do it and they share it because they’re fans of the show/book/movie etc. just like you, and they want to contribute to everyone’s enjoyment of fandom.
Fanfiction is hard to write.
You need a lot of creativity and passion to write fic. You need a ton of motivation and drive to write a complete fic, let alone a good one. Fic authors write for hours and hours and hours, often staying up late into the night just to write. They write through job struggles and personal issues, resorting to phones and tablets when their computers are on the fritz, tapping away on public buses and trains just because they can’t find any other time to write.
Fanfiction is free.
Fic writers give away thousands and thousands of words of pure fandom magic, and you get to consume all of it for the wonderful price of nothing. The only reward writers receive for themselves (besides a sense of accomplishment) is the response they get from you, the reader. Some don’t even feel that accomplishment until they see kudos and comments telling them how much their work was enjoyed.
Please.
No matter how much time you have, even just clicking the kudos button takes less than a second. And if you have time to read 5k words at one go, it’s no stretch at all to take a few more seconds to type ‘good job!’ or ‘i loved this!’ in the comment box and hit send.
Still not convinced?
1. IF YOU’RE EMBARRASSED / SHY,
Fic authors LOVE hearing from you. Don’t worry about whether you think you’re going to phrase your response well. That’s literally the last thing we care about. Just knowing that you had a good time with something we made is EVERYTHING to us.
2. IF YOU STILL JUST DON’T SEE THE POINT,
I have a very special challenge for you, my friend.
Write a fic.
Go forth, and write a complete, well-structured, well-characterised fic with organic, stimulating dialogue interwoven into a proper, fully fleshed-out storyline.
Yuki never believed in Christmas miracles, nor did he believe in birthday wishes coming true. His birthday was always overshadowed by ballerinas in pretty, white tutus and lists made for Santa and his reindeer. His mother was always too busy working day and night to cover the costs his movie star father left behind for her to shoulder alone in favor of the woman he chose instead, and December 24th was no exception. She’d apologize to him the next day, always, with a sad smile on her face. “Yuki, mom is sorry.” She’d say to him as she pulled on her overcoat. “Mom will make it up to you.” She’d tuck his silver hair, ‘my starlight’ she used to call him, behind his recently pierced ear. Truthfully, he even forgot about his own birthday sometimes. Being 16 was supposed to be special, the peak of his youth, but it just felt cold like the snow falling from the night sky.
Summary: Life and tea have a lot in common: It's bitter, it's sweet, and it also takes time whether gradually or instantly to fall in love.
Eichi’s always believed that it’s ironic that he was born blessed with looks that could rival those of the celebrities residing in Yumenosaki—eyes the color of turquoise not knowing the word “no” for an answer and golden hair soft like the threads of silk that hug him to sleep, a cruel, twisted hand dealt out to him by fate who he assumes is laughing at him, at he who teeters back and forth on the verge of death. It’s painfully ironic when he falls in love, an emotion he can only feel for a short while, whatever while he’s left on Earth.
Summary: Koga finds more reasons to hate the spring.
Koga’s walked the path to the Light Music Club many times, a room located on the quieter part of campus that has a view of the cherry blossoms planted near the school’s entrance blooming in the spring from the second floor. Rei often kept the windows open for that reason despite Koga’s complaints that “it’s still fucking cold out, you asshole”.
Pairing(s): kaosou (mentions of keichi, kurokei, reikao, and reito)
Genre: lifeguard!au, university!au
Rating: M
Word Count: 8,988
Warning(s): none unless you count a non graphic description of a seagull eating a baby turtle
Summary: Hakaze Kaoru has a reputation: He’s attractive, he’s a university dropout, and he’s a lifeguard who flirts with any girl in sight. He’s the kind of man Kanzaki Souma, a science student who cries over sea turtle documentaries, despises.
Souma enjoys the smell of the sea. He likes the sound of the waves crashing against and retreating from the shore. The sea is beautiful, it’s wonderful, it- does not smell like cheap cologne. What the hell? Souma’s eyes snap open, and the first thing he sees is blond, strands of blond, wet hair (bangs?) tickling his nose, and then he feels something warm pressing against his lips which taste like salt which he recognizes from the ocean. Then he notices it’s a man, a man is kissing him, and Souma’s first reaction is to flail underneath him like a fish out of water.

more detailed notes under the cut
originally, souma was a marine biology major in this fic, but after a quick google search which crushed my marine biology major kanzaki souma dreams, i made him a science student; however, the university of tokyo does have this. i imagine souma would enjoy working here in the future also. (i want to hug the sea turtles too!!!)
i actually had to check if the japanese version of “the circle of life” has the “it’s the cirrrcle of liiifeee” part LOL (it does btw)
trains stop running in japan at either midnight or 1 am, so if you miss the last train, you’re screwed until morning.
ebi is the type of sushi that looks like this.
okayu is japanese rice porridge. traditionally, it’s eaten when you’re sick because it’s simple to digest.
okinawa is a popular vacation destination for the japanese people who can’t afford going abroad. it has some pretty white beaches. (did i mention it has an aquarium with whale sharks??? because it has an aquarium with whale sharks, and i’m probably the only one who’s excited about that ^^;)
the sumida river fireworks festival is a real thing.
japan has 16 aquariums nationwide. rip kaoru.
happy elements never specified where rei studied abroad, so /throws dart at a world map/ england it is.
hakama are traditional japanese trousers. many women can be seen wearing them at graduation, but most men prefer to go in a suit and tie.
cherry blossom viewing begins in april. graduation season in japan is in march.
sake is japanese rice wine.
golden week, did you mean hell week? golden week happens at the end of april and goes on into the first week of may. basically, it’s 4 holidays close together, so japan decided to take the whole week off. many japanese use this time to go on vacation, so prices abroad and within japan skyrocket. many japanese, however, also choose to stay home and spend time with their families (like souma).
the title of this fic, harbor, refers to both the ability to harbor feelings for somebody and the place where ships dock.
