To all my black followers and friends, stay safe.
Also, I would like to add that black lives have always mattered, will always matter.
Itâs awful that we even have to say that because it should be a given. However, we need to say it loud and clear for the racists.
We cannot be silent.Â
âThe worst part of losing someone you love is the fact it alters your life but the world carries on living. You feel like youâre stuck in this moment of grief and people will pass you by, give their condolences, but then they keep on walking, keep on laughing, keep on living. And you sit there, thinking how dare the world carry on when itâs lost such a bright light. But it does, and it always will.â
â things I tell myself.
Iâve found that grief can make us very sensitive to even the slightest stress. Because in truth weâve been in a chronic state of emotional turmoil ever since the moment of our loss, and so it really doesnât take much to tip us over the edge. Disagreements, mistakes, complications that would have once passed through us without much bother, suddenly flood through our consciousness like a shot of poison, and can kill off our positive mood that we spent days nurturing, right there in an instant.

âRelearning the world after someone we love has died is not a matter of taking in information or mastering ideas or theories. It is, rather, a matter of learning again how to be and act in the world without those we love by our sides.â
â Thomas Attig
The best comic of the year 2020
âIt hurts to live after someone has died. It just does. It can hurt to walk down a hallway or open the fridge. It hurts to put on a pair of socks, to brush your teeth. Food tastes like nothing. Colors go flat. Music hurts, and so do memories. You look at something youâd otherwise find beautifulâa purple sky at sunset or a playground full of kidsâand it only somehow deepens the loss. Grief is so lonely this way.â
âMichelle Obama, Becoming
âThe dead arenât the only ones who vanish: you, too, can disappear in plain sight if enough is taken from you. I was still missing, in many ways. And I wasnât sure I wanted to be found.â
â Sarah Dessen, Once and for All

about grief
Those who havenât grieved a deep loss can cause further pain to those who are grieving, because they just donât get how hard it can be. I wrote this piece to try to increase awareness and empathy about grief.
âThis is a thing many people outside your grief cannot understand: that you have not simply lost one person, at one point in time. You have lost their presence in every aspect of your life. Your future has changed as well as your ânowâ.â
