His face is stuck in a book, but the crack in their voice  has him looking up, concerned. The question— 

He gets it. It’s a question he’s asked himself,  on the really bad days. (Does it count, if so much  of what makes you human gets wiped out? Does  it matter?) 

Bucky puts the book down. 

"Yeah. ‘Course you are.  Human-plus, maybe — but, yeah. You’re human.”

(He’s not sure he knows that for sure, empirically;  but they look human and they act human — and they  want to be human. As far as he’s concerned, that’s  all he cares about.)

"Why? somethin’ happen?"

       “Nothing... happened.”

              They're practically trembling as their arms wrap               around themself. It's something they've been               thinking about, struggling with, for a while now. 

              They hesitate to step forward, not trusting               themself to move. If they do, they may cry. If               they can even cry with bionic eyes.

       “I. Do not feel like. I am.        My bionics make me feel...”

               What's the word they're looking for? They pause,                trying to figure it out.

       “Wrong.”

               It's a question. They're asking him if they're                Human. They're hoping, with everything they can                muster, that he'll say yes. To reassure them that                they are, in fact, Human.

              well….this was unexpected. and a bit embarrassing, really.               the hulder straightens up, hands smearing the blood from               her face. it’s much harder to go about this stuff silently                                                nowadays.

               At first, before it becomes clear to them that the                being standing before them is in no way Lyric,                they're terrified. But they calm when they realize                they're not her. They don't even really look that                much like her, but the combination of the blood                and the red hair... That was very much Lyric.

               They don't say anything about the blood, nor about                the body. They just want to get out of the area                without getting hurt.

Partly, he’s impressed that the computer’s so small.  It’s not like he’s been dead or unconscious (mostly) for  the past seventy years, and he’s seen technology change;  but it never fails to surprise him how small things are, now.  He’d never seen the decrypting machines (though he’d  charmed some of the girls he thought probably ran them),  but he doubts they were portable. 

"I can stay — nothin’ else to do today.”

There’s a moment where he considers that they might  actually want him gone (he can’t tell if it’s manners kicking  in, or something less palatable). 

"Unless I’d be in the way?"

       “No, no! You would not be.        It. Should not take long.”

               They smile softly as they reach out to take the                 laptop from him. Truthfully, they prefer to work                 unobserved, but if a customer wishes to stay they                 won't argue. That would be bad for business.

               They place the laptop on the counter, fingers                flexing slightly before opening it.

               It's time for the technomancer's magic touch.

normally, red wouldn’t be so BOLD with strangers, but she feels this rush of excitement at possibly being able to keep the mean demons away. they hurt her too much, evident in the bruises & cuts scattered over her neck & arms.

               They bite their lip.

       “I do not.        I apologize.        Perhaps I could. Help you look for one?”

               Of course they're going to offer to help the                child. She looks hurt, and it worries them. They                reach out, offering their hand to hold.

Character development time! Give me some interesting questions about my character and I will answer.

I’ve actually already written a post about that! Basically, combination of the torture they went through + seclusion on Earth. But, as they interact with more and more people, that should improve!
