“I can’t wait for tonight!” you say turning around to your best friend who has just finished stacking her pencil case and books together. With five minutes left to go in your last class for the day, everybody had begun chattering amongst themselves and completely ignored the t/c who in return ignores them and kept his eyes on his laptop. “Oh my god, I forgot to tell you” your friend says her face showing disappointment “my parents grounded me, like can you believe them? Grounding me on the day of their concert.”
“Serious?! But what about your ticket?” your friend pouts, she doesn’t want to say it but she has to since you couldn’t get a refund, both of you paid for your own tickets but your friend gave you the money to buy her ticket, just so the two of you can sit together, unfortunately that’s not the case anymore. “This is bull! I guess you have to find someone else to go with you, buy me something in the concert so that my money’s not wasted.” She says, then the bell rings and everyone got up from their seats and rush outside, you linger back like usual because one you get to see him and two your friend loves to take her time getting up. “Do you have any special requests like maybe a concert album or t-shirt…”
“Hoodie and concert album, then tomorrow after school we jam to their music and you tell me every single detail in the concert.”
“Are you girls talking about the Coldplay concert tonight?” t/c finally spoke up, his dark brown eyes sparkling with enthusiasm, he too loves the band just as much as you. “Yeah, but unfortunately, I can’t come” you friend speaks up, she is clueless about your attraction to him.
“Got grounded for skipping my chores in three consecutive days.”
“Mm, if it makes you feel any better I won’t be going as well. I missed out buying the tickets.” His shoulders slumps, you couldn’t help but feel pity…and find him adorable. You debate whether to ask him if he wants to come with you since you had an extra ticket, but your friend was right there, what would she think of you? “Oh! You can have my ticket since I won’t be using them, y/n has it.” You quickly look at your friend with an aghast look. “Are you sure? I mean surely you don’t—”
“Hey, nobody else can use it, y/n do you have someone else in mind?” your best friend turns her gaze at you.
“Huh? Oh, uh…no, none yet.”
“You don’t mind if I come?” he looks at you with hopeful eyes that you allow him to go to the concert. “No, I don’t mind at all” you say giving him a cheerful grin. His face suddenly perks up, a grin is plastered on his face “Cool! Oh and I’ll give you the money for the tickets tomorrow” he says to your friend.
“Noted, now you two kids have fun—but hey! Not too much fun, there’s school tomorrow.” Your friend says before exiting the classroom. “So…I’ll pick you up at seven?”
“Yeah, this is going to be fun!” you suppress a cheer.
“Hell yeah! I never thought I’ll be going to their concert today. Alright I’ll see you.” He waves you goodbye.
At exactly seven you hear a car honk outside your house, thankfully you were done dressing and gussying up by then. You are wearing a stubbie short with a cream-coloured peter pan collared short sleeve, completed with an over-size grey jumper, for your footwear you wear your favourite ankle boots. You run past the dining room and living room waving goodbye to your family before bursting through the front door, the tickets, your phone and wallet is securely sitting inside your leather sling bag. Outside parks a white luxury car, t/c got out of the driver’s seat and waves at you, he was wearing a white V-neck shirt, black jeans, an unbuttoned black pea-coat, grey scarf and a pair of grey runners. You wave eagerly back at him whilst running to him “got everything?” he asks, you show him the two tickets then the two of you got into your seats and drove off. During the drive t/c holds up a couple of Coldplay albums “which one?”
“This one” you take the album that had a front cover that looks has a pure white background and at the centre is a polygon sketched lady who is cut from the bottom half of her face to the top half of her chest. “Good choice, put it in the disc slot” he instructs you without taking his eyes off the road, you do as you are told then after you relax back on your seat listening to Coldplay. The ride is taking a while and during that time you would occasionally glance at t/c who was moving his mouth to the lyrics and at the same time has this amazing blissful smile plastered on his face. When the track ‘The Scientist’ began to play you begin to sing aloud, he looks at you then smiles and begins to sing out loud.
It is dusk, you and t/c are standing waiting in line along with a couple of other lucky fans that manages to grab a ticket for the special private show in the worn out theatre at the city. “I’ll be right back” he says all of a sudden before sneaking out from his seat, he was gone just as you were about to ask him where he is going. You sit nervously alone for minutes (of course there are other fans sitting around you), and right on the dot the lights dim and stage lights illuminates the stage, your heart rate speeds up and all bad scenarios came rushing into your head such as ‘what if he doesn’t make it?’, ‘what if he doesn’t get let in?’, ‘what if he’s kidnapped?’, etc. you spin your head frantically, trying to find his familiar toned skin and outfit. “Hey!” a person pounces on your t/c’s seat. “Oh my god, where the hell have you been, I thought…nevermind” you begin but stop when he hands you a hotdog, chips and drink “Oh thank you” you smile completely forgetting your recent distressing experience. “Am I forgiven?” he laughs that beautiful chuckle that always melts your heart. Just then the band begins to play it’s first song, the room bursts into cheer with everyone including your and your t/c standing up to cheer for the one the only Coldplay.
Song after song, you’ve never felt so alive than that moment, you sing along and rock along with the beat, you wave your arms when the music becomes slow. “Alright guys, time to take it down a notch” Chris Martin says, he takes his place at the very front of the stage, he takes his place at the piano which is at the centre of the stage. He plays a couple of familiar notes earning a scream from all the fans including you and t/c. As if telepathy, everyone begins to sing in unison upon the first words “Oh they say people come…they say people go…” Your face shines as you feel the music speaks to you, but little did you know the man sitting next to you has taken interest in your enraptured face, with the help of the soft glow of the stage light your face illuminates making you “celestial” he feels his heart skip a beat, though a part of him is telling him to ‘wake up, she’s your student’ but he too feels the power of Everglow, the music drowns out all doubt in his head. All of a sudden the crowd erupts into a loud roar as the song fades into an end waking t/c out of his thoughts. “I love that song!” you yell over the crowd to him he smiles and nods.
“Me too…me too” he says barely audible to you and nearly to himself, he returns his attention to the stage just before he does something irrational.
For the final song the band begins their hit song Viva La Vida, everyone cheers once again for the final song of the night. Fans are singing along, dancing along, cheering, it’s undoubtedly the best night, everyone still has the same energy that they had at the opening of the concert. At the final verses t/c grabs your hand lifts it up and sways them along with his own arms, you are surprised at first but relaxed loving the firm but gentle grip of his hand on yours.
With the concert having ended, you and your tc are driving back home with an afterglow from the concert. You blabbed to him about your favourite moments which specifically is every second of the show though you conceal the part where 75% of your happiness is being able to spend time with him, the love of your life. He too has a gently smile on his face, the reason it is not a grin is the lingering confusion in his heart and mind. What he felt during the song “Everglow” is extraordinary, and he wants to feel that same pounding from his heart but the fear of getting addicted to it holds him back, and the idea that this emotion is awaken by none other than his student frightens him, but he loves it.
Arriving at the front of your house, you grab your sling bag and get out of the car just like your tc. “Thanks for the ride Mr. t/c” you say with that extraordinary smile of yours that makes his heart beat just a little bit faster. “I think I should be thanking you for giving me the opportunity to experience tonight” he says meaning it, you thought he is grateful for the opportunity to go to the concert, but in actuality he is using a double entendre, he is grateful for you opening his heart. “Alright I’ll see you tomorrow” you say skipping to the dark house, he waves back at you and as you close the door he mutters “I can’t wait.”
