“Deepening our knowledge of AI through qualitative interviews!”

For the past few weeks, our team has mainly focused on desk research and data to gain a better understanding of the effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence 🤖. We are also interested in the practical implications. Therefore, we decided to “Go the Extra Mile” by conducting qualitative interviews. More specifically, in the upcoming two weeks, we will interview three experts 👨‍💻 in the field of Process Mining, Content Recognition and Innovation. We are looking forward to their valuable insights and we will update you on the progress! 📈

Artificial intelligence is like a magic black box that can change the world. In essence, artificial intelligence is consist of algorithms, machine learning and decision theory. In this case, an algorithm is a small procedure or list of steps that are needed to solve a problem. A computer program can be viewed as an algorithm. Based on the data, a computer programs is able to learn certain patterns, which enables them to make better predictions. Oftentimes this can be done through multiple linear regressions. This is called machine learning. Last but not least, decision theory means that the programme conducts a series of scenarios or strategies with different risks or expectations of gain or losses that can be used for optimal decision making.

Defined the core aspects and categorizations of AI, it is important to understand that there are many different areas that apply these principles. Some popular technologies tend to be large-scale machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, collaborative systems, computer vision, algorithmic game theiry and soft robitcs that focus on process automation rather than task automation.

Diving deeper into the employment pillar

South Limburg is characterised by low labour force participation and increasing polarisation in the labour market, in housing and living environments, and increasingly in education. The trickle-down of the results of current knowledge investments to the rest of society not only does not work well, it seems to increasingly lead to a self-reinforcing social polarisation. The Limburg labour market is not functioning properly. From a EU - regional perspective, there is low labour force participation and low mobility in the labour market. Furthermore, the skills of school leavers and the unemployed do not match well with the demands of the labour market.

As we move forward, we aim to find creative technological solutions to the problems under each pillar, which cause poverty in South Limburg. Hopefully, we would be able to provide realistic recommendations for various stakeholders to implement.

Team TechTrack x FUN night

For us, fostering a good relationship with each other is very important. Despite these COVID times, we always try to talk privately to each other, share personal stories in order to get to know each others way of thinking and personality better. What do you think when you hear the word “poverty”?

First of all, it is important to distinguish between emerging, developed and underdeveloped countries. Since our attention will be focused on the latter, we found out that poverty is often associated with exclusion from society — a definition of poverty different from the stereotyped concept in our minds.
