Oh conceptual character I dreamed about who was very clearly intended to be evil that showed me the smallest bit of affection and i suddenly swerved the course of the dream because i was so starved for support that I attached myself to him and now he’s my only source of comfort. We’re really in it now.

You sat up rather quickly in your bed, eyes wide and sweat running down your face as you looked around the room. You slowly managed to catch your breath before getting up, leaving your room and making your way to your brother, Volo’s room. Yes, you and Volo are siblings, but not by blood. He had adopted you as his sibling right after you had moved to Hisui by yourself, as you had no one else with you. You still aren’t entirely sure what made him want to do that, but you aren’t complaining, as he’s been nothing but kind to you.
You opened the door to his room to find that he wasn’t there. He must still be out, you thought to yourself, sighing softly as you make your way back to your room, to try to go back to sleep. You were hoping to talk to Volo about your nightmare, since he was great at calming you down and helping you get back to sleep. However, before you stepped into the room, you heard a familiar voice call out to you,
“Y/n? What are you doing up?” You looked over to see Volo standing there. It looks as if he had just gotten home, as he was still in his merchant attire, aside from his hat which he had taken off and set aside.
“Sorry, Volo, I just… had a bad dream.” You rubbed the back of your head, looking down at the ground. Volo was silent for a moment before chuckling a bit, making his way over to you. He pats your head, making you look up at him.
“A bad dream, huh? That reminds me of a certain Pokemon.”
“A Pokemon?” You asked, tilting your head slightly.
“Yes, a Pokemon that can cause bad dreams. I can tell you what I know about them, if you’d like?” You nodded, always happy to listen to him talk about mythical and legendary Pokemon, or just Pokemon in general.
“Alright, get into bed and I’ll be there in a moment, okay?” Volo ruffled your hair and made his way to his room to change out of his clothes and into night clothes. While he went and did that, you went to your room and crawled into bed, covering yourself up with the blanket. A few minutes passed and Volo walked into the room, wearing a simple white t-shirt and pants, now sitting beside your bed.
“Alright, so you say you had a bad dream?”
“Yes, I did.”
“Do you remember what happened in the dream?” You thought about it for a moment before you shook your head.
“No, I don’t.”
“That’s alright, I was just curious. When you brought that up, I remembered hearing about a Pokemon that causes nightmares.”
“A Pokemon that causes nightmares… I’m surprised there is a Pokemon like that.”
“Well, Pokemon are rather mysterious, so I’m not really surprised.”
“So what do you know about this Pokemon?”
“I only know what I’ve heard, and doing a little bit of research in my free time. I know that it’s called Darkrai, and that when it’s near, it can lull people, and other pokemon, to sleep.”
“Other pokemon, too?” Volo nodded at this.
“Yes, even other pokemon. There are also rumors that it’s more active when there’s a new moon, causing nightmares as it does so.”
“Interesting.. I wonder what it looks like.”
“I’m curious about that as well.” Volo leaned back a bit, looking up at the ceiling. “If I ever encounter it, I’ll be sure to tell you.”
“Volo..?”
“Hmm?”
“Do you think there’s a way to counteract these nightmares?”
“I should’ve known you would ask.” He chuckled softly, looking back down at you. “Yes, there is.”
“Really?”
“Yes. A lunar wing, which is found from Darkrai’s counterpart, Cresselia, helps keep bad dreams away if they hold it when they sleep.”
“Do you think you could look for one the next time you go out?” You asked, pulling up the covers more as you yawned softly.
“Of course I can, Y/n.” He reached over and pats your head once more, turning to leave. “For now, get some sleep, okay?”
“Okay. Goodnight, Volo.” You closed your eyes, eventually falling asleep
“Sleep well, Y/n.” Volo left the room, making his way back to his room to get sleep as well.
I am a Volo loves babies / anything small and cute truther. That man’s team is almost entirely based on Pokemon that have a baby evolution. Its 3:40 am rn and all I’m thinking of is Volo being soft and mushy over something like a clodsire or smth and he literally holds his togepi like a baby in so much of his official art it’s insane
