Since we're talking about dex let's talk about some headcanons I have that actually involve his psychopathy and BPD (as someone with a cluster B personality disorder)
If you and Dex have a kid, he doesn't actually care all that much for them. Don't get me wrong, he's an incredible father but that's only because he knows he needs to be in order for you to stay. If he could get away with being a deadbeat and still be with you, he would. At the end of the day, if it comes down to you or your kid, he's choosing you.
You're Dex's favorite person and that means his entire sense of self and mood relies on the things you do. You tell him you're not in the mood for sex, he things you hate him. You're mildly upset about something he did, he thinks you're gonna leave. And it's a lot to deal with, constantly having to curate the things you do to make sure he remains stable
Dex splits a lot. One moment he's madly in love with you, you're his perfect angel that he puts on a pedestal. The moment you don't act like that angel tho, he can't handle it. You say something he doesn't like and suddenly you're a stranger and he's perfectly willing to treat you like one
Dex doesn't particularly care all that much about the things that go on in your life if they don't directly involve and benefit him. Your coworker you don't like is bitching and complaining constantly? He's excellent at pretending he cares but in all honesty he just wants to talk about literally anything else
Dex's level of empathy is quite unique because of his psychopathy and BPD. On one had, he feels everything to an extremely hightened level and on the other, he can't be bothered. Mostly, he feels his empathy the most when it's affecting him. You have a bad day? He's upset because now you don't want to do the things he wants to do. Fisk kidnaps you or something? He's furious because how dare he take his moral compass.
Dex does genuinely think you make him a better person. Not because he particularly wants to be all the time (sometimes he does want to do good and be good) but mostly because by being good, he gets to keep you. His most prized possession.
