“[Name]!” Hana called, voice shrill and high as she all but threw herself into the chair across from you. The chair rocked slightly and she grabbed onto the table to stable herself.
“Yes Hana?” You said calmly, not looking up from your notebook, hands moving across the paper in neat strokes, “we’re in the library, quiet down.”
“Sorry,” she said in an overly low whisper, fixing herself in the chair, she sat up from across you. She quickly opened her phone and started scrolling with fury, “you HAVE to see Krazy’s new album promotional pictures!! They’re sooo… UGH!! So hot!”
Hana gushed in a quieter tone, turning her phone to show you the 100th boy band she’s been obsessed with since high school.
“Uhh, what’s the theme?” You asked, tilting your head confused. Always halfway listening to Hana’s gushing about her bands, you still lacked an understanding of most of it.
Hana could only whine, “obviously! It’s bad boy!! Look at them!!!” She gushed further and she began to point out the members to you. You, being a good friend, stopped writing and decided to humor her for the time being. After all, she did the same thing for you when you were first interested in your current boyfriend.
Your boyfriend, Teddy Brown. You met him in the school cafeteria, where you basically crashed into him. It was no big deal really, that kind of thing was very common in the cafeteria, especially around lunch time. But the next day he approached you while you were sitting out on one of the benches, with a shy look on his face he asked for your number to treat you to a meal. As a sorry of course.
Back then you would gush to Hana about all the cute things he did. This guy had you hook, line, and sinker.
“What are you guys looking at?” The familiar warm voice spoke from over your shoulder. Turning your head you saw the very guy you were just thinking about, “Teddy! You’re here!”
Your words came out light and cheery, and Teddy’s eyes lingered on your face for a moment. There a moment before he gave you a quick kiss on the forehead, his usual smile not making its way onto his face.
“We’re looking at only the hottest guys around!” Hana gushed and moved the phone to face him. Teddy looked confused but nodded along to Hana’s words.
“Stop shouting Hana,” you reminded once again, “this is a library.”
Hana whined and pulled her phone back, “I can’t help it!” She quietly gushed.
“Are you ready to go?” Teddy asked, looking down ad you, hand held out to you to help you up.
You smiled, one of the things you loved about him. You gathered your things and took his hand.
Teddy always made a point to walk you home if he could, a mix of worry and yearning causing his actions. By walking you home he got to ensure you were safe, AND hear your voice as you two talked about everything under the sun.
But something was different, Teddy’s usual smile was missing as he nodded along to your yapping. But your questions about his wellbeing were met with the same “I’m okay” answer.
Every time it seemed like your apartment kept getting closer and closer. “Ah what a bummer,” you pouted, standing at the entrance to your building.
Teddy laughed, which only made you pout more. Looking up at him you took a step closer, “you sure you can’t come over today?”
Instead of responding he wrapped you in his arms, holding you close, “I wish….” He murmured, and you didn’t press any further.
Then you parted ways, something unsettling you. The look in his eyes and the way they held you a little more hesitantly, it was strange.
Pushing down your anxiety to kept stepping into your apartment, hoping he’d come to you if he had any concerns.
—
‘I’ll pick you up at your new job,’ Teddy pressed the send button on the text, occasionally glancing up to make sure he didn’t run into anyone. Clicking his phone off he slipped his phone into his pocket, letting out an uncharacteristic sigh.
He’d like to say he wasn’t bothered, but that would be a lie. In his defense he was trying. But seeing you blush for another guy lit something in him that he could easily describe as jealousy. Even if it was some random boy band on YouTube!
He doesn’t even think you understand how much that day in the cafeteria changed his life. A small interaction changed so much, even he was suprised.
His steps were heavy as he made his way through the crowd of people on the side walk. Walking through the crowd seemed harder for him now that his thoughts were heavy.
Teddy was more jealous than he’d ever really admit to you, granted he saw it as more possessiveness than anything. Which he was always told was worse. And with being the way he was, how could he get the image of you blushing at that freaking boy band out of his head!! Stupid freaking boy band!
But… maybe you’d like uhhh someone cooler? Subconsciously reaching up he grabbed a strand of his own hair, maybe it wouldn’t hurt to change it up? Right? It wasn’t insecurity, it was more a need. A need for you.
Letting out a sigh Teddy trudged his way from turn to turn, leading himself to the restaurant you had recently started working at. The restaurant slowly came into sight and Teddy reached for his phone to text you he was here. Till he saw you. Standing outside. With some dude?!
Teddy sped up a little bit, trying to keep his expression neutral. “[Name]?” He called, and he swears his heart skipped a beat when you looked at him, the same way it did in that stupid cafeteria.
“Teddy!” You called, waving softly as he got closer, “let me Introduce you guys!”
His eyes drifted to the guys standing next to you and suddenly the pit in his stomach came back. The guy standing there look like those idols in that band. Tall, styled hair, ripped jeans, black button up with just enough buttons undone to show off his jewelry and collar bones.
“This is Kamden,” you said taking your place next to Teddy, “he’s one of the other servers here! He was waiting with me since it’s so dark!”
Teddy nodded, “thank you for staying with her,” his words came out, weighing in his chest and leaving an unhappy feeling.
“It was no problem,” Kamden hummed and turned to look at you, “I work tomorrow, 5-10, what about you?”
“I’m off!” You said happily latching your arm onto Teddy’s, “I guess I’ll see you Wednesday?”
“Yeah,” Kamden hummed, “be safe you two.”
“Yep! You as well!” You smiled. The same smile you gave him that day in the cafeteria, the same smile he thought was just for him.
‘He was strange,’ Teddy thought to himself, drawing every conclusion in his head. What made him wait with you, what did he say during the shift? What did he say to make you smile—
“Yoo-hoo! Earth to Teddy!” You called, and Teddy snapped his head to you, a smirk playing in his lips. “You weren’t even listening,” you pouted.
“Oh sorry,” his sheepish voice said, rubbing the back of his head, taking note of his current hair style once again.
“You’ve been so distracted since yesterday,” you said, worry filled tone shinning through.
Teddy seemed surprised, his face doing that cute thing it does when you catch him off guard. The same way he used to when you started dating. But the longer you were together the less he looked surprised. His surprised expression was soon replaced with something of just affection.
“Ah.., have I?” He wondered vaguely, “I guess uh…. I think it’s just practice,” he gave out. A simple excuses he hoped you would believe for the time being.
“What were you saying? About your first shift?” Teddy asked, trying to pick up the conversation to both listen to you and distract himself.
“It went well!” You said brightly, “everyone here is super nice! Plus Kamden was really nice! He helped me through the mistakes!”
“Ah… really,”. Stupid Kamden, was all Teddy could think. His mind raced, the boy band, and then this dude. Suddenly he was questioning his own appearance. He’s never been super insecure about his appearance, and even now he wasn’t. But maybe it was preference, maybe you’d prefer someone cooler. Because Teddy against changing to be with you, as long as he could keep you here, he’d always work hard.
—
All these feelings and thoughts. And maybe, he realized to himself now, he needed to change a little to it your mold? Maybe you liked boy like those idols and Kamden?
Teddy doesn’t know how long it took, lying in his bed later, face in the pillows. He groaned, holding his pillow close he let him thoughts race. Running through every possibility, and anything he could do.
“What are you groaning about?” The familiar rough voice of Hanamaru rang through his ears, and Teddy glanced up from his pillows. “Just…ugh….” He struggled to find the words, a mix of embarrassment filling him.
“Trouble in paradise I assume,” Hanamaru hummed, taking his place on the bunk bed he shared with Yuhan. Their dorm was small, but none of them needed too much space anyways.
Teddy turned over the idea of asking Hanamaru for help, his mind draw to different conclusions before looking at Hanamaru. Hanamaru who was relax and effortlessly cool in the eyes of many.
“I… I think I need to be cooler,” Teddy admitted softly. His words came out embarrassingly slow and it only got worse when Hanamaru burst into laughter.
“What are you talking about?” Hanamaru laughed out, pulling a bottle of Sake he had skillfully managed to get into the dorm.
“I think [Name] wants to be with someone cooler,”. Teddy repeated himself, groaning into his pillows. And then suddenly a thought cross his mind, what if you left him? The idea made Teddy feel Nauseous. You had saved him. That fateful day in the cafeteria, to you it might have been just bumping into someone. But for Teddy it was different. Your kind smile and offer to help him lingered in his mind. It may have been small, but small things mean a lot when someone i suffering. And as drastic as it sounded, Teddy couldn’t imagine his life without you
So Teddy spilled it, desperately telling Hanamaru everything. About how you blushed looking at the boy band, how your new coworker seemed a little too close. Before he knew it he had run out of words, his thoughts laid out raw for his drunk roommate to see.
“Well…. If you wanna be cooler I have just the thing..,” Hanamaru said, pulling out his phone, a grin on his face that had Teddy questioning if he had messed up. But he was too far in, and he had no other ideas of his own.
Teddy was desperate, desperate enough to see the help of a drunk Hanamaru.
—
“What are you wearing,”. Your voice came out more deadpan than you thought. Because WHAT. THE. FUCK!
Teddy was always cute, and even now dressed in his ripped jeans, black shirt and choker and new hair style he was cute. He looked like one of those male leads from the anime’s, the ones that are cute on the inside and —. You felt your heart pound as Teddy rubbed the back of his neck, “I just… wanted to try something new is all.”
You didn’t say anything, simply stepped aside and let him come into your apartment, your silence making his shoulders feeling heavier than ever.
Teddy had been in your apartment many times since you guys started dating, but he was still nervous every single time. Especially now, when he felt like your love was on the line.
But he was confident this was different, he was determined to show u his cool side. Hanamaru and him had stayed up late, watching videos of those stupid idols and dramas. He took mental notes on how those people acted, granted it proved harder than he expected.
“That show I told you about is releasing its first episode today!” You beamed and quickly grabbed the Remote, “will you watch it with me?” As if Teddy could ever deny you anything.
A moment of silence fell over the two of you. You were over in the kitchen putting an overly large amount of popcorn into an overly large bowl. And Teddy was in the couch drowning in his own thoughts, hyper aware of the way the hair clips felt in his head, how strange the choker felt on his neck. The entire experience being strange.
“Drink?” You asked from the kitchen, rummaging through the fridge in search of all the things you’d need for a show binge.
“Water is fine,” Teddy said, his voice coming out more strained than he wanted. Admittedly, Teddy was far more nervous than he’d like to admit. But you always had that effect on him. It was just you, and everything about you.
“Okay!” You hummed, balancing twenty million things in your hands, walking slowly to the couch as to not spill anything.
“You can ask for help,” Teddy said, his tone relaxed as he carefully came over and took things from your hands.
“Yes…. But I’m not worried about that right now,”. You hummed, arranging things on the coffee table, “I’m more worried about you.” You spoke casually, moving around drinks and bowls of snacks. You figured he wasn’t going to bring it up, and you were too worried to wait.
Teddy froze, looking like a dear in highlights as he sets the last glass on the coffee table himself. Honestly, who was Teddy fooling? He should have known you knew what he was feeling from the start. Despite the same smile being on your face the entire time, you were very observant.
Teddy hadn’t even noticed his body went stiff, he felt emotions running through his body he had never experienced before. He finally snapped out of it, lifting himself up, not raising his eyes to look anywhere but his hands.
“You haven’t smiled since last Wednesday,” you hummed, staring at the TV, not wanting to pressure him with your gaze. But the worry had been bubbling in you for a long time. You hoped he would come to you, that he would talk to you about how he was feeling.
“[Name],” Teddy called after a moment, his voice nervously bouncing, “I… well.., do you think I should be cooler?” He spoke but the words came out more childish than he expected. And suddenly he felt embarrassed.
“…what?” Your words came out blunt, not meaning to of course. Because out of all the things you thought could be bothering him, that was not what you expected.
“Ugh…” Teddy buried his face in his hands, “I just…. I saw you blushing at that stupid boy band, and stupid Kamden seemed too close so I… I thought maybe you liked that kind of guy…”
You laughed, you didn’t mean too. Teddy only buried his face impossibly further into his hands. Not that he said it out loud it seemed far more embarrassing than he had thought.
“Teddy,” you called, reaching out and gently pressing on his shoulder. Before he could tell what was happening his back had slowly fallen against the couch, you hovering over him, “you are… so cute.”
Your face was red but a grin was stretched across it, you hovered over him, hand finding its way into his hair. Your hands moved through his hair, gently removing the hair pins one by one. Once the last one was out you gently tousled his hair, “there we go…. There’s my Teddy.”
You smiled down, and Teddy thought he could die. He had never prepared himself for a situation where you were straddling him and hovering over him, and.. and calling him yours.
Teddy couldn’t say anything, but his hands found your hips, worried you might tumble or fall. (Definitely not because he just wants to hold you.)
“I’ve missed your smile,” you hummed, hand holding his cheek, “you haven’t smiled once since that stupid library thing. And I wasn’t even blushing at them.”
Your words came out in a huff, “I was thinking about my super cute boyfriend,” you spoke with a grin, because every word made Teddy smile. Even if he didn’t notice.
Teddy slowly reached one hand up, taking the hand you had settled on his cheek and interlocked it with his own hand. He took a few deep breaths, struggling to find his words in all the happiness he was feeling. “[Name],” Teddy called, knowing you’d hear, knowing you’d listen, “is it wrong? I’m more possessive than you think. Is that okay?”
You smiled even more, “I wouldn’t have it any other way..”
A gentle tug brought your lips together.
Because Teddy was always gentle with you.
And that was one of the many things you loved about him.
I haven't posted in a long time but here's my current wip of Teddy! I'm going for a "painting" look and I'm looking forward to the final result of my work ^^
(Yes I listened to ring ding ding because I couldn't focus on other songs.)
Recent artworks of Aknk! I won’t be active much but I’ll still make some fan art, it’s my first time drawing them like that so there’s some mistakes if ever ^^;
The next main story update will be released on 6/24 at 3 pm (JST). The story will serve as a prologue (?) to Episode 6 and will revolve around Zephyr, who was an important butler to the basement butlers.
Do note that in the update, Zephyr has not been voiced. (He will probably get voiced later judging by how important non-playable characters have all been voiced in the main story).
Edit: almost forgot to mention it but this event story 「祭りの夜に大輪の華を」| “Large flowers on the night of the festival” will be fully voiced and the voiced version will be available from 1/7 onwards!
