One Hour Hatha Practice REVISITED
I was at Dragonfly Yoga Barn last weekend for Sarah and Cat’s Strength and Ease retreat, a magical weekend of yoga practice and farm fresh food. I’ve been doing the podcast alone in my apartment exclusively for the past three months off and on, so I was ready to practice with a teacher in front of me.
By the end of the four days, my body was more limber than ever. The running I’ve been doing has contributed to my flexibility, and I feel more confident in my practice than ever before. I don’t want to lose this progress, and I intend to continue practicing at yoga studios in my neighborhood.
This week however, I’m home in South Dakota. My mom just finished her first 200 hour Iyengar Teacher Training. I’ll be practicing some podcasts in the coming days, as well as working towards full Headstand. Headstand has frightened me in the past, but Sarah was kind enough to give me some pointers so I can work towards it without the crippling fear of breaking my neck.
Last night I was feeling antsy and weary from a full travel day, so I wanted to do a more intense practice. I thought it would be a good idea to revisit some of the podcasts I found challenging and see how I progressed. Let me put it this way: I NAILED this podcast. I was in downward dog, piece o’ cake. High plank? No prob. Forearm plank? My core was born for that one, baby.
After about 40 minutes of practice, we finished pigeon on both sides of the hips. At that point, I brought out the foam roller. (Thanks mom!) I rolled around for a spell, then relaxed into a savasana that put me to sleep. Once again, I slept like a baby.
