Episode 42/Pre Yoga Retreat!
I’m leaving for a yoga retreat tomorrow. I went to the Dragonfly Yoga Barn last fall for my first ever yoga retreat. It jump started my practice, and I came back to New York feeling energized and excited to live. I’ve been a little bit lazy with the season change, and I’m looking forward to getting up to New Hampshire to do yoga and drink tea all weekend.
I haven’t done yoga in about a week. The last practice I did, I led myself. I picked some poses I liked and moved through them in about a half hour. “Better than nothing.” I told myself. I’ve been finding that doing at least a little bit will sometimes lead me into doing more than I originally planned to do. Which is good, since I’m inherently lazy.
My bag is packed and I’m ready to go tomorrow. I did Episode 42 for two reasons: 1.) To get ready for bed, 2.) to ease myself into doing a full weekend of yoga. This practice had hip work, and was only 40 minutes. As this practice progressed, I was so glad that I took the time to do it. My hips were tight, a byproduct of running in freezing cold weather, and a lack of yoga practice.
This podcast was designed for people who travel and/or sit for a living. Airplanes are a terror for your hips and back so this practice should provide some relief. I’ve been reading some internet articles talking about just how bad sitting for extended periods of time can be for your body. As a result, I try to incorporate hip openers into every practice I do. I also don’t sit at my desk at home anymore. I fashioned a kind of “standing desk”, where I’ll do my internets and other biz.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I feel ready and able for a yoga retreat.
